As we move deeper into the offseason, we'll be getting sporadic updates on matchups and brackets for the biggest November and December college basketball events.

The latest: The Jimmy V Classic, which is held in New York every December. Next season will see Duke play against Florida and Arizona State play against Purdue. The Sun Devils and Boilermakers will play first, with the Blue Devils and Gators getting the nightcap, both games at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 6. The announcement came on Wednesday.

The big draw is Duke, of course, and not just because of brand name. Remember, the Blue Devils are likely to be a consensus preseason No. 1 team. They will be loaded. This is Duke's first time participating in the Jimmy V Classic in 15 years. Duke and Florida haven't played each other since 2000, in the NCAA Tournament.

Mike White is the second-year coach at Florida. The Gators went 21-15 last season, losing in the NIT to eventual tournament champion George Washington. The interesting link between Florida and Duke: White's father, Kevin, is the AD at Duke.

Interesting, did not know that about White's father.

On a side note...it is somewhat odd that NC State isn't a fixture in the Jimmy V classic.

This is awesome. I saw the last final 4 team play Memphis at the jimmy v classic, and it was a great game. Will have to look for tickets early, because of Duke. I think we'll put a pretty good team on the floor.

Rick Barry's kid, Canyon Barry, picked us as his grad transfer destination. College of Charleston grad.

Canyon Barry averaged 19.7 points in 31.9 minutes per game for Charleston last season. He shot 40.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, hitting 84.5 percent of his free throws underhanded.

Buddy close to the basketball team just told me;

Should be one more coming still. Have Kostas Antetokounmpo visiting this weekend. It will likely be him or Jalen Hudson the VaTech transfer for the last spot.

If he can shoot, we need him. Interesting info. about the other two. I'd take Giannis over Hudson. Hudson looks like another athletic wing who can't shoot. We've got plenty of those.

Former Florida swingman DeVon Walker has found a new home.

The 6-foot-6 Walker will be heading to Troy as a graduate transfer, the school announced Tuesday. Walker graduated from UF last week with a degree in criminology.

Coming back from a torn ACL that sidelined him for the 2014-15 season, Walker could never get on track last season, averaging 1.6 points and 1.7 rebounds. A change of scenery and another year removed from the injury should help.

“We’re thrilled with DeVon’s decision to continue his career as a fifth-year grad transfer here at Troy,” Troy coach Phil Cunningham said in a press release. “DeVon was the epitome of a successful student-athlete during his four years at Florida, and we expect him to make a huge impact on and off the court in his one season in our program. Our team has been missing an athletic, play-making wing, and DeVon definitely brings those characteristics to the court.”

Other notes

– Per ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman, Arkansas center Moses Kingsley has decided to pull his name for the NBA draft and return for his senior season. Kingsley averaged 15.9 points and 9.3 rebounds in his first season as a starter.

Virginia Tech G Jalen Hudson transfers to Florida

Florida has landed one of the top college basketball transfers left on the market, ESPN reported Wednesday.

Virginia Tech guard Jalen Hudson will transfer to Florida, picking the Gators over the Texas Longhorns.

Hudson is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard who will have two seasons of eligibility remaining, though he is expected to have to sit out for a year due to NCAA transfer rules. Hudson averaged 8.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore during the 2015-16 season.

Our consistently awesome non-conference scheduling in basketball is like the antithesis of our piss poor non-conference scheduling in football. It is so odd.
It is to the benefit of the basketball program to have a good non conference schedule. Plus more non conference games.

A strong non conference schedule does not help most P 5 teams in many ways

Our stretch from october to november explains it quite well on a yearly basis with one bye week in between

It's college basketball. Even the blue bloods play teams like Presbyterian, etc.

sadgator would love for somebody to explain how a game with Presbyterian helps us in any way.

Well besides when Will Muschamp was the coach, these type of games give the younger players (whom don't see the field much) a chance to gain some playing time and experience.

Florida reportedly will play at Oklahoma next season in the SEC-Big 12 Challenge, according to a source close to CBSSports.com’s Jon Rothstein.

The game will pit former Gator and current Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger against the team he coached to a Final Four in 1994. Kruger went 104-80 in six seasons at Florida (1991-96) before leaving to take the head coaching job at Illinois.

Kruger has coached against the Gators only once since he left UF, and it wasn’t by choice. In 2000, Kruger’s Illinois team lost Florida 93-76 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Oklahoma is coming off a 29-8 season and a Final Four appearance in 2016. But the Sooners are losing three senior starters from their squad, including national player of the year Buddy Hield.

The Oklahoma matchup adds to a challenging non-conference slate in 2016-17 for second-year Florida coach Mike White. The Gators will face likely preseason No. 1 Duke on Dec. 6 at the Jimmy V Classic in Madison Square Garden in New York City. In addition, Florida could face Gonzaga, Miami, Iowa State, Seton Hall and/or Stanford at the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando from Nov. 24-27.

All the NBA players making big bucks were recruited and coached by Billy Donovan. He was more the reason these high level recruits came to Florida and not the opportunity to be a Gator. Mike White needs to prove he can land similar high quality recruits and then coach them to success on the court. Right now we are a mediocre program in an average to below average league. I wish him all the best and love Gator basketball. But we won't attract basketball players just because we're the University of Florida, unlike say North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky or Duke. Even UCLA, the school with the most NCAA titles, has dropped from the list of automatic draws for recruits because they haven't had a big time coach at the helm. So Coach White can use the legacy of Florida basketball as a selling point, but in order for him to be a success is to convince some 5 star recruits he can get the program back to the level Donovan had it and then prove it on the court.

Mike needs quality 4 Star recruits that stay for 4 years and get their UF degrees.
Not the kensucky type of 5 Star 1-&-Done ignorant/uneducated student/ATHLETES.
BillyD never 'loaded' up on 5 stars, just 1-2 now and again.
For Example: How many 5 stars were on the roster that he left White?
Hill and Robinson if memory serves me, both good, but neither exceptional. Both have become 'coaching projects' by Mike-staff.
Both were out-performed (imoho) in 2014-15 by 3-4 stars at their positions. :oops:
I expect to see both perform at a much higher level in the coming season.

Where they end up (Billy-Mike) is years away from knowing, for any career long comparison.

However - Some positive beginning comparisons could be made:
BillyD was a 2 year HC at D2 Marshall where he was 35-20 (.636) in 2 years there. Donovan inherited a program that went 9-18 the year before his arrival. His 1st year resulted in an 18-9 record and a North Division Championship in the Southern Conference. He was named the National Rookie Coach of the Year by Basketball Times. His 2nd season they dropped down slightly to a 17-11 finish.

M.White - The 2014-15 Conference USA Coach of the Year, came to the Gators after leading Louisiana Tech to a 101-40 record (.716) over 4 years, including three straight Conf. USA Championships and 3 straight NIT appearances.

BillyD's last season at UF was 16 wins and sitting at home in the post season.
Mike White's 1st season, with what was left of the 2014-15 team, had 21 wins & the NIT.

~ Mike White matched a program record with 21 wins in his first season as head coach at UF, leading the Gators to a five-win improvement over the previous season. Among active SEC coaches, 21 wins matches the second-most in the first season on the job. And he returned the Gators to post season (NIT) play. The team that was left to him by Billy had zero players drafted to the NBA. -- DFS has signed as a F/A, with the Mav's I think?

~ Under White’s leadership, the Bulldogs also advanced to the NIT in each of his final three seasons in Ruston, including quarterfinals appearances in 2014 and 2015. In all three NIT appearances, Louisiana Tech posted a road victory over a major-conference opponent, toppling Florida State in 2013, Georgia in 2014 and Texas A&M in 2015 on their home floors.

Mike White's 1st season, with what was left of the 2014-15 team, had 21 wins & the NIT.
So, while none of us knows where White's UF career will go, I'm still real happy with Foley's last B-Ball hire! :)

```` While some of you folks act like he's some HS coach that just stumbled in here off the streets.... :rolleyes:
All three Gator recruits were from Florida HS's in 2016, but they've gone elsewhere in 2017. (I'm sure hoping that late xfer/commit 6-11 center becomes eligible)
SG Shai Alexander 6-4 165 **** - Chattanooga, Tenn.
He is the #1 rated player in Tn.
SF DeAundre 'Ticket'' Ballard 6-6 180 *** - Augusta, Ga
He is the #9 rated player in Ga.
What does UF have that UK has never had, and probably never will have? o_O
The team who became the first, and possibly last, college team to repeat National Championship wins with the same 5 players in the starting lineup, Horford-Brewer-Noah-Green-Humphrey.
They also became the 1st team to put 3 players in the NBA 1st round Top 10 picks in the same season, Horford(3)-Brewer(7)-Noah(9). :cool:
~ Others have now accomplished the feat since then.
Note: And IF I remember correctly, Brewer was the only 5 star among those 5 starters.
