Fields to tOSU

They lied to the kid and Fields was too stupid and fell for it.

Smart said he would change the offense for the kid. Smart isn’t going to run a spread offense with a DT QB.

A Prima-Dona to a new home.

Couldn't care less, I was and am, happy with 4.0 character Emory and incoming Jalon. :)
Keeping up with the Jones's is going to be really tough on both Franks and Trask this Spring.

I'm more on this side of it. I'm not per se opposed to going after transfers but we have good talent now/incoming...why upset the apple cart?

Yeah - if you need a guy for 1 year and are desperate you do it...but we aren't desperate at QB.

Did I miss a rule change? I thought you had to sit at least one year outside of a program going on probation and such???

Anyone know the current rules? Thanks.

He is trying to claim a hardship or fear of safety because a racial slur was used against him by a former Georgia teammate. Said teammate has since been released and stripped of his scholarship. Interesting to see the precedent this ruling will set.

It would be a joke ruling is what it would be.

I thought it had something to do with a Georgia baseball player who yelled a racial slur in the stands, a slur Justin Fields clearly didn't hear and was told about it.

Meanwhile, the baseball player is kicked out of school within days (Fields family said they didn't want the kid expelled), Fields never actually heard the drunken bs from the kid during the game when it occurred, and Fields sister is going to UGA to play softball. The hardship claim holds no water and is just wrong. (Most) Attorneys are scumbags.

Fields is a spread option QB and was not a good fit at Georgia. He let his heart rule his head because he & his family were lifetime Bulldogs. But he still may not be a starter at Ohio State, even though their offense is more his style. They are very high on Tate Martell, who backed up Haskins this year. Plus their new coach got the QB he wanted in this year's recruiting class. I really don't care about any of it, though. Just focusing on the Gators and the guys we've got.

I'm not certain, baseball player or not. His sister is enrolling at Georgia so that story is just b.s so he can play right away. Not the racial slur part, the part where he has fears. He is upset he didn't win the starting job and wants to play next year.

No way he gets a pass IMO. No real hardship that I know of.

People try to equate this to the Shea Patterson situation in some regards. Georgia is not going on probation like Ole Miss was. Unless Kang Kirby is doing something shady..... nah he isn't suave enough to pull it off.

The kid got beat out by another 5 Star and he doesn't want to sit. I don't see any hardship other than his ego being fractured.

He went to UGA and he went there knowing he doesn’t fit that offense. Yes he’s a moron
It's the John Brantley situation all over again, just at another school. Lifelong fan of the school works hard and is good enough to get a scholarship there, but finds that the current coaching staff do not have a real need for the type of game he is suited for. Kid's career will end up being wasted just like John Brantley's was here at UF.

Can’t blame the kid for wanting to play. He’s trying to be in the NFL in 2 years. How’s that going to happen if he sits? His hardship sounds shaky but if I were advising him I’d tell him to do what he has to to play as soon as possible. Too much money at stake. Why shouldn’t he be able to play? Because the NCAA has a rule designed to limit the players’ mobility for the benefit of the top programs with stacked rosters? If he sucked, I’m sure they’d have no trouble processing him.

I get the feeling Fields is a moron

I’m sure your intellectual role model DT would agree and tweet about it. You ought to tweet him the story and frame it as a white dudes don’t get a fair shake angle. Guaranteed retweet.

He knew Georgia already had a 5 Star in Fromm who was just one class ahead of him. If his goal was to play right away there were options like Florida that could have given him that path.

I don't blame him one bit for looking out for his best interests. Millions of dollars are at stake, I question the decision and failure to address his own folly in not looking ahead.

If he wants to be in the show in 2 years he shouldn't go to a place where you have to fight like hell to see the field.

If you were to tell him to do what he has to do to play as soon as possible, you would tell him to drop a division.

The NCAA has a rule designed to keep coaches from poaching players from other teams. Without the one year sit-out, what would stop Saban from having "someone" contact, oh, maybe Cam Akers, about transferring to Bama and playing behind that O-line, jacking up 1,200 yards to get all the NFL scouts wetting themselves and probably getting a ring in the bargain?

Yeah he made a bad decision, but he was 18 years old and wanted to play for UGA. No reason it should cost him a career if he thinks he can play at Ohio state. If he can’t play then he won’t.

How many guys get drafted high out of OSU vs lower divisions?

Isn’t that probably what Saban told Cam Akers when he was in HS?

If Justin Fields really wanted some playing time, he should have went the juco route, ala sCam Newton, then go to Auburn to postpone Gus Malzahn's firing. Who knows, daddy Fields might be able to bag about $200 grand like Cecil Newton did.

I find it funny when people say they have an excuse for backing out of their commitment due to any age over like 16. At 18 if you commit a crime you are held responsible as if you were 45.

He is leaving because he couldn't beat out another player. Now if he wants to transfer and sit out I have no issue. He is taking ownership of his bad decision. Fields is trying to claim he shouldn't be held to that because of a racial slur. I'm sorry that happened but the University took steps to correct that issue.

If he wants to go to Ohio State because he wants to get prepped by Day and his buddy Haskins is there , that is fine. He shouldn't be able to play this year though. The QB who signed with Ohio State and stayed should be the guy. Now next year Fields should be allowed to play because he will have sat and took the consequences of his initial commitment. There is no hardship forcing him to leave, he just made a decision he now regrets. He wants to go to Ohio State because of Ryan Day, the fact it is a huge brand and he will get maximum exposure, and he will have NFL talent around to support his sizeable talent.

You only have to go lower division for 1 year, then you can transfer back up. If he wants to play right away, that's where the opportunity lies.

Cam Akers was an example. The point is that if you can move and play immediately, then coaches don't have to go the juco route to get experienced players any more, they can simply poach them from other teams. "Hey, we had 3 WR's graduate, you are caught in a numbers game where you are, if you transfer you'll catch 80 balls here as our #1 guy". You want to have to worry every year that you might lose a key guy (or guys), not to the NFL, but to FSU or UGa? Even the NFL has restrictions on movement. Free movement would not be a good thing for CFB.

Well according to the newspaper reports, they already made their 200,000$ from Kirby Smarts Pecan Payroll.

He’s not leaving because he couldn’t beat out Fromm. Fromm was there when he committed and it’s widely known by people on the team he’s the far superior talent. He just needed to get caught up on the playbook and playing at this level and it was only a matter of time until that happened. UGA sold him on being the guy because if you’ll recall Fromm barely did anything more than hand the ball off until the last two games last year. They also sold him on developing him as a pure QB in a prostyle system but then would only use him as a glorified fullback in games. That’s what the issue was, he felt he wasn’t being developed as a true QB and was not given and opportunity to actually function as a QB in games. If he was worried about competition he wouldn’t have gone there in the first place. Straight from people close to him.

As much as I want to be a fan and claim that these students should be going to a particular school because of the school itself, we know that's a sham. There should be SOMETHING in place for when they get recruited and sign with a coaching staff, only to see that coaching staff leave in a year or less for a better job. And the kids are left there with the school and the system is built against them as far as transferring. There is NOTHING the NCAA does to inhibit the coaching carousel every year. Right now, how do you think many of those young OSU players feel who went up there to play for THE Urban Meyer. He took talent from Florida and all over the country. Those kids didn't all grow up wishing to be Buckeyes, they traveled up there to play for a coaching icon. Now that he's retired, how fair is it for all the newly minted sophomores or juniors on that team to be stuck with whoever they have as head coach and the system will not allow them to transfer out or such without demonstrating hardship?

Yeah but the school invest in the kids too...don't get me wrong...they are making money hand over fist...however if people transfer without any consequences it would be a shit show IMO. I don't care of the rule myself either but I'm playing devil's advocate. Sitting the year out isn't stopping most from transferring if they really want to.
