BREYER TO RETIRE FROM SC

Trolling?

America 1st is a lie
Populist is the biggest lie
Fiscal discipline is a lie
Wtf is dignity of the individual?

They are only strong on borders and with police.
No, not trolling. At all.

Dignity, and perhaps I should use a different term, is primacy of the individual versus the state or large monopoly. It comes in play with mandates, state versus federal, etc.

Are Rs or Trump individuals consistent on the above. No.

Reagan picked a judge because of gender (Day-O'Connor). Bush picked a judge because of race (Thomas). Trump picked judges to overturn a ruling (Kavanaugh, Gorsch, ACB).

Did you want them to recuse themselves when cases involving those topics came up? Or only this bother you?
...Trump picked ACB because she was a white female.

Picking judges who reflect America is not a purely D exercise as you note. I think the Democrats should nominate a black female, as long as she is very well qualified. The first two are. Pick them, celebrate that individuals of broad backgrounds can be successful. She is the first one.

Quotas come in when, let's say the SC was 27 members, and we are fine tuning selections based on race and gender. This is about a first, not a go-forward quota.

Will the first two rule as I would prefer? Maybe in some areas (pro-choice, anti-trust enforcement), likely not in others (Free speech curtailment, policing, border enforcement, etc.). But this is what happens when the Democrats run the Senate and the Presidency and the Filibuster is removed.

Trump literally said after RGB died that he was picking a female. Great point and that slipped my mind.

I guess because it's Biden, some people just have to criticize because they can't help themselves.

We need to stop with partisan politics. I said before that both parties pander to a base. It is what it is.

Are you high rn? The left once criticized Trump for eating two scoops of ice cream, but when Hiden chomps down two cones in 30 seconds (brain freeze is no worry, apparently) then the left thinks it's adorable!

GTFO of here with that shit! LOL

Yep. And it's ok. She (ACB) represents a large part of the country and will this new individual.

Yep on Biden. Plenty to criticize him on. This is petty. Ensure the person is properly qualified, ask good, honest questions and then if there is nothing there, move on and celebrate this moment.

We need to stop with Partisan politics when it is applied to EVERY SINGLE ISSUE. It's exhausting and people tune out. Come together on the 60-80% we all agree on. On the major items, sure. Debate it with vigor. But that should be 20-40% - tops. And celebrate when we do agree.

But that's not how this works. This isn't how ANY of this works. The Democrats have proven time and again they can't be trusted to do the right thing. It's "just fine" when they go low and down and dirty. The GOP plays nice in the sandbox and like Charlie Brown missing the football, Luci(fer) yanks the football away.

If we continue down this road, there will be nothing left resembling America to negotiate. If our founding fathers had played by your rules (standing lines of infantry vs guerrilla warfare), we'd still be bowing to the crown.

Unfortunately we have gotten to the point where you need to make the other guy look as bad as possible at every turn regardless of what it does to the country.

Just sad to watch America decay so rapidly.

But but but....it will show the independents that Republicans are reasonable!!!! And if the dems act like jackasses, well independents will see that too and not vote for them!

Take the high road! Independents will reward you for it!

Question: When is the last time we 'took the high road' and the dems didn't act like jackasses?

Never.

So if we keep taking the high road, and dems keep taking advantage of us for doing so.......why don't we have 100% of the independent vote?

'Taking the high road' is the RINO version of socialism. It's never worked any time it's been tried, but they are convinced the NEXT time you try it, it will work!

Trump was wrong. So is Biden. Identity politics is BS.

Best candidate, effe "your" feelings.

Pretty much. My issue with politics have always been consistency. If you didn't criticize Trump for his judge selection process then don't criticize Biden. Stand for something.

BTW, I'd love it if a woman became POTUS in my lifetime....but not because she is a woman. But rather because she was the right choice.

Electing a female because she is female cheapens the accomplishment and harms the nation. Ditto with a black female Supreme.

I'll say it again. Thomas looked me in the eye and promised to uphold the constitution. So far, he has kept his promise.

Sotomayor and Roberts looked me in the eye and promised to uphold the constitution. They lied to me.

I don't trust Brandon, although he's kept his promise of higher crime rates. Should he appoint a judge who is confirmed and doesn't lie to me, Brandon will get high praise from me. I'll be watching, if the Great Father permits.

Didn't Gorsch and Kavanaugh say that Roe vs Wade is settle law? If they overturn it, would you say they lied to you?

But does it make sense to overturn settled law when the majority of the country agrees with it?
Makes little or no sense. However.....

Gerald Ford signed the metric changeover law in 1975. Americans were opposed at the time. Reagan threw a wrench into the law when his first budget didn't fund the office of metric changeover. Reagan said "we're far enough along in our changeover, momentum will carry us." Ho, ho, ho! Being out of step with rest of the world has cost US taxpayers and consumers untold millions and millions.

I had a 12 year front row seat to see the great cost to Americans when my company was heavy, heavy into export.

Sometimes settled law needs change when the general population disagrees. Young people of today are much less ignorant of the need for change in measurement.

I've had some success with the ignorant by asking this question. Would you like to see Congress repeal the metric US dollar? Would you like to see 12 dimes equal a dollar and 24 pennies equal a quarter? Are you glad the 1792 Congress based the dollar on the meter? 100 cents equal a dollar. 1000 mils equal a dollar.

Yeah but were you saying that then?
That's not why Trump picked ACB. He wanted to pick a conservative woman............in particular, a pro life judge with real credentials. Whether one agrees with that or not, it served two purposes. 1) Prevented appointing a woke activist judge 2) made it difficult for the Dimtards to attack her like they did with Thomas and Kavenaugh.

See, that's happens when you play the "believe all women card". It bit the proggies right in the butt hole. 🤣

And on that note, what happened to "believe all women"? 🤣 🤣 Ghislane Maxwell thrown under the bus and into prison but all of the other half of the transactions sealed for eternity? Where is the outrage lefties????:oops::oops:

Didn't Gorsch and Kavanaugh say that Roe vs Wade is settle law? If they overturn it, would you say they lied to you?

I would not. Settled law means what it means. The 2nd Amendment is an actual amendment but it's constantly challenged as well.

Their point was that they aren't actively looking for an opportunity to overturn RvW.

Bingo. If anything, this court has leaned on leaving that to the individual states. Oh, the horrors!

If you did great but the people that didn't, should probably sit this out.

I feel the same way about Affirmative Action. I get its purpose and there was probably a time where it made sense, despite its inherent unconstitutional nature.

However, imo it causes more harm than good and that harm comes to all parties, on all sides.

Should "settled" law always remain unchanged if the science or factors affecting the original decision have changed? It has been 50 years since the original decision so do we not have an updated understanding of say viability or whether the fetus feels pain and what that threshhold and level might be?

There have been major supreme court decisIons overturned by future supreme courts. This is a rarity as it should be but I would hope that we are never "stuck" with an original poor decision or a past ruling that makes sense to now overturn based new information of the day.

This one is NEVER going to be settled, either scientifically or morally. Unless legislation signed by the then acting president (small case p for Brandon) is enacted, the battle over the definition of the beginning of human life will go on into infinity. Even the enactment of mandated law will never settle the question for many people, no matter what stance the .Gov sides on.

Great thing to bring up. I'm not a supporter of AA and I don't care if it is struck down.

What I will ask you is, why do you think it's not needed anymore? Could it be that the because it's around things are better and once it's gone, things will change?

People my age didn't attend segregated schools. I grew up around people of all social backgrounds and race. More times than not, hate comes from ignorance. People my fathers age grew up in segregation.

The point being, it's more difficult to hate or not understand people that you grew up around. It's easier to feel that way if you've never really known _____ people...and it doesn't matter how you fill in that blank.

I don't believe the vast majority of people my age, and people about 10 years older than I am, need a quota to hire minorities. They're hiring people, not races or sex.

...Trump picked ACB because she was a white female.
No he didn't. Where do you get this garbage from?

He picked her because she was pro-life, because Trump is pro-life and he wanted a pro-life judge on the bench.

If you were following Kavanagh's appointment, you will remember that ACB was one of the top finalists then. So him picking her next time wasn't surprising.

I will concede that he likely wanted her in part because she was a strong Christian pro-life woman, replacing a liberal woman who was ravenously pro abortion.

But her skin color was never a consideration. You should stop listening to whoever told you that.

If you're asking me. I've always said I won't criticize Trump on everything or worry about every poll. That's other people on here. Definitely not my style.
You criticize Trump all the time GTFO of here. Remember when you claimed 'my people' knew Trump was a racist since the 80s?

Then you turned around and voted for a known racist, and were happy to do so. Again, GTFO with your hypocritical ways.

Question for @grandhavendiddy: You say republicans shouldn't fight Hiden's nomination, give it an ole and let him have his pick. You claim independents will reward republicans at the ballot box for being reasonable.

If that's the case, then why didn't independents penalize the dems for the absolute shit show they put on during the Kavanaugh hearings?

Dems took the 2018 midterms, and took* the White House in 2020.

I'll ask again: When has it ever worked to 'be reasonable' with the dems?
