Batteries cost more than the car

Why would a manufacturer cut production of a product everyone wants?

Makes NO SENSE.

Someone is feeding us a line of BS. Just gotta figure out who it is...
Who wants the ford lightning? lol, you guys are some serious meatheads. Without the muscle!

EV's are a one horse race.

One company has figured out how to provide enough value that consumers even pay attention.

One brand makes not an industry.

This is the deal..there are SOME people that an EV is a good choice. But my problem with them is that LIBS want to force EVERYONE to own one...and I do not like being told what I can buy. It is a HUGE mistake that will FAIL. And being as close to the subject in my professional life as I am, it will RUIN the car business, because the buying public WILL NOT buy things because they are forced to. Someone (smart car companies) will have an alternative..and THAT is what people will buy. I despise the whole damn idea of forcing this garbage on the public WAY, WAY before it is ready for prime time. And it will not be ready in my lifetime.

I already told you Tessy is the best, rivian makes a good product but needs to ramp. The domestic oems don’t know what they are doing. Some European makes are doing well, particularly Volkswagen. It’s an industry with a matket cap of over a trillion. It’s young and is going to grow robustly for a long time, so t invest if you want to keep your head in the sand, that’s ok. Avoid giving opinions on something you clearly don’t know anything about.

I know enough to know the gov't doesn't need to provide subsidies for products that provide good value and are in high demand. I know enough that the gov't doesn't need to make product mix edicts for products that consumers want. I know enough to not invest in an industry highly reliant on finite raw materials that are largely controlled by communists.

There's a reason EV's are being pushed down our collective throats.

So I clearly know something. 😆

Government subsidized the purchase of your home. It subsidizes many many things. Too many to list, including oil and gas. Nobody is forcing you to do anything, the only thing that I see as being noticeably jammed down the American public’s throat is home ownership. Buy whatever kind of car you want. Maybe you’re still using a flip phone and not a smart one, it’s all good.

I got no help buying my home.

And I underbuy and over maintain cars. They are an expensive asset that ALWAYS depreciates. Probably the worst way to spend your money. And I financed a new car when I was 22 and swore I’d never do it again, and have kept that promise.

And nowhere is the gov’t mandating product sales mix like they are EV’s. It will kill the automotive industry and the electrical grid in one fell swoop.

Answer the question - if EV’a were such a no brainer why push them so hard?

It won’t kill them, most should be dead anyway so it wouldn’t bother me. You didn’t get. A mortgage on your home? That’s good if not but virtually everyone has and they are all subsidized. As are the gains on sales the first 250 and 500 for singles and married people is tax free. They are pushed because they are cleaner and with the population exploding the less pollution the better both noise and emissions. It’s a new technology that will continue to get better.

The auto industry is CONTROLLED by unions/democrat...however they are starting to show signs of realizing this is an unattainable boondoggle. For me at 62, I hope this EV BS holds off until I retire. There is NOTHING that I like about the many changes(some we have talked about, some we have not) that this brings to my industry.

What's funny is how the EV push is ignoring how good the combustion engine has become.

I rented a 2024 Accord to drive my son from JAX to Tallahassee to visit FSU (we were in FL for a lacrosse tournament a few weeks ago) and I got 42mpg in eco mode.

That was hybrid territory a decade ago. And this wasn't a Prius, it was a full size sedan.

Even the Camry hybrid was overrated. You won't see any newer models on the street.

The pollution side is great, clean air and water are awesome.

But modern combustion engines are really, really clean. Mowing your lawn is the equivalent of driving several hundred miles in a car. VW just did a study and it takes an EV 60k miles to break even with an efficient combustion car. And that 60k is hard to hit because you have to stop and charge every few hundred miles. Right out of college I put 60k on a VW GTI in one year...would have been nearly impossible with an EV.

And the population of the US isn't exploding. We are below the birth rate right now. Population growth is less than 1%, and I'm assuming that's fueled by legal immigration. I'm not sure where that talking point comes from, but it's as wrong as most of the rest you spew.

Stop reading Politico and watching CNN. It's bad for a healthy brain.

I'll stick with my 16.5 mpg truck till I upgrade to a diesel engine.

I have had a V* my whole life...this time (my last new vehicle because I drive about 6000 miles a year) I went with a 3.0 diesel. THIS is where they missed the boat. My truck pulls the same weight as a 5.3 V*, bot gets 30 mpg on the HWY. Does not have the lean idle miss all computerized vehicles has...runs like a sewing machine. These IDIOT government libs went from gas....right to full fledged EV's and skipped right over clean diesel...and hybrid. At least in America they did. BOONDOGGLEISM at its very best.

Diesels are great until the emissions systems start getting old and clogged. And it’s not the diesel - it’s all the crap they put around the engine. My boss’s X5d is about to cost him thousands.

I’m driving my V8 Tundra until it dies…11mpg is pretty good, right?

Good to me when I only drive 6k per year!

Funny how things happen...just got out of a meeting and my boss went to a Chevy meeting. they are turning their attention to hybrid(VERY quietly) and away from full electric. Ford has attached EV inventory for dealers to be able for them to receive Bronco's LOL In other words they will not ship Broncos to them(hot dales) unless they take EV's. GM has not done this yet. We just turned back allocation for Blazer EV. Chevy rep was not happy. Big business is not TOTALLY stupid. Some of the past strike was tied to EV sales. Union workers HATE EV's, and fear for their jobs.

EV's are cleaner. its the new tech, you are not alone in struggling with change and adoption of new things, ever watch an old person try and operate a smart phone or computer? its funny. I drive a TESSY, its not close, its a far superior vehicle. That is only going improve dramatically. My car 2017 model S cost me 108, the new model S is about 15k cheaper and goes zero to 60 in 3.1, mine is 4,1, the range is 406, mine was 338. thats one hell of an improvement in 6 years and its Deflation!! i wont get into the driver assist or other advancements over the period. You need to familiarize yourself, i really wanted to use educate here but i decided to be nice, with Tessy and what it brings to the table and where its headed... progress isnt all bad, its just bad when you cling to tightly to your old way of doing things..

I’m a car guy.

I’ve done my research, and I’m a decent adopter of tech. I have built computers and work in a rapidly changing business environment with Gen X and Gen Z and have to constantly evolve and learn the tools that business runs on. I’m not a senior citizen trying to find the keyboard on an iPad.

Keep your fancy golf cart. I’ll take my ICE vehicle.

You should bone up on how good modern combustion engines are. It’s not your daddy’s old F150.

I have nothing against ICE cars just like i dont have anything agains a flip phone, they simply do not compare, dont have the ability to advance nearly as rapidly, and ultimately will become uncompetitive with EV's. Go test drive a tesla model S. Do they have a tesla showroom in your village??

Electric motors deliver 100% of their torque immediately. My golf club has golf carts. I get it. Tesla cars are fun toys. If I was in a place in life for a toy I may consider one.

None of that changes the fact that I don’t have to plug in my ICE truck, it can go across country without a charging station, it doesn’t eat tires (last set went 65k miles), I’m not reliant upon slave labor or communist countries, it starts when it gets crazy cold here, my engine should last 350k+ miles, it’s a 1/3rd the cost of a new battery for a Tesla.

I’m sorry - but I’m not going into debt to pay for “cool tech”.

Plus, I can work on it without being electrocuted. I worked as a professional mechanic for 1.5 years out of graduate school. I’m decently handy with auto maintenance and repairs.

So no, I don’t see the value. You can keep your iPhone car. I’ll keep my Tundra.

Go test drive a tessy, you need to educate yourself, you sound like a babbling idiot swinging at climate change ghosts.

So Rivian and Ford are losing $30k per car sold?

Sorry @Mdfgator - Tesla can’t make the industry work by itself.
Apple made an industry, and rivian, and the others need to ramp up, i already told you this, there is a high fixed investment, you dont understand business, at all. They will likely never be as profitable as tessy is, but thats the way it is with every industry titan and its peers.. Go test drive a model s, so you dont sound like a moron when discussing this.

there must be something to this thing they call tessy... I suggest anyone that has not driven one, go test drive one. It will blow your skirt right up, BELIEVE ME
