2024 Gator baseball

He has a pitching arsenal that consists of a fastball in the low-90s, a slider, a curveball, a changeup and a cutter. He touched 91 on his fastball at a Perfect Game event in February.

The bulk of the runs Laurito gave up last season happened over the course of 3 2/3 innings in two of his starts - he gave up nine of his 12 earned runs in these innings.
In 28 2/3 innings over nine other starts, he had a 0.94 ERA - three earned runs.

When he's throwing strikes sub 2 era. That is impressive.

Ocala based on stats we've significantly upgraded the hitting. Question is where are all of these infielders going to play?

There will be competition in the fall for sure. You gotta figure Shelton & Kurland have SS & 2nd base locked up. Pitching remains the main issue, though.

Getting SS Coby Shelton back is massive for Kevin O’Sullivan as it solidifies his infield and returns a bat that has tons of power. When pairing Shelton and the incoming transfers O’Sullivan brought in, the infield should look something like Bobby Boser at third base, Shelton at shortstop, Cade Kurland at second base and Justin Nadeau/Brody Donay/Luke Heyman at first base. This will be a top infield in the SEC and the Gators will certainly be a top team nationally heading into 2025 with this piece of news.

Pitching is still going to be the key to a successful season. Lots of competition for infield slots. The transfer from Miami, Cyr, is an excellent player who will be in the lineup somewhere and Heyman and Kurland have to get over their sophomore slumps and get back to the excellenece they showed as freshmen. Lots of potential in the lineup, but we didn't pick up much quality pitching in the portal so the returning guys have to show dramatic improvement and the incoming freshmen have to contribute significantly if we're going to be a contender.

Yes, losing the Samford kid to the draft set us back a bit.

Agree. Offensively on paper we should be much improved. But as crazy as it sounds, we could actually be worse on the mound. If these guys hit to potential, that would be a legit 7 .300 hitters in the lineup.

We’ve got the pitching talent on board. They just have to play up to it. Extremely young staff last year. Peterson and Coppola are going to have to pitch close to their reps. They showed flashes last year. And Clemente was just the all star game starter in the Cape Cod league. So that’s probably your starting 3. Need Slater to get it back together and Philpot and Menendez to take a step forward. Hopefully we get one or two freshmen to pop and a couple of the transfers to give innings.

Last year was a nutso year for offense and for homeruns in NCAAB. Maybe they’ll dial the ball back a bit.

Slater is gone. Signed with the Giants. It seems we have Blake Purnell coming back, though. He's been around the block a few times. Don't forget Luke McNeillie either. He came in with almost as much hype as Peterson. Maybe a couple of the incoming freshmen pitchers will be ready for the big time, too. As you said, potential is there. They just have to produce.

Is Menendez gone? Thought he was back. He would be a tough loss. What about Fisher Jameson? He got drafted. Is he coming back? Would be big. He may have been our best pitcher last year.

From what I read, the freshman are supposed to be studs but you see how hit and miss freshman pitchers can be in the SEC. Peterson would have been a top 10 pick if he went in the draft instead of UF.

And who knows maybe the Clemson kid gives some weekend innings. Guy started almost every midweek game for Clemson and we’ve seen that’s no picnic for pitchers.

I really like the transfer bats we added. All of them seem like they can put the ball in play and drive it. The CF looks like a big time defender. Like ocala said, if Kurland and Heyman hit like they did as freshmen, we could be pretty explosive.

C'mon Insta - Your research is not complete and some of it is plain wrong! Fisher Jameson was drafted in the 10th round and signed by the Rockies. Listing Blake Purnell as the possible closer, replacement for Brandon Neely is absurd. Purnell has pitched a lot for Florida with mixed results. Freshman year was very good, sophomore and junior years were average to poor. He in no way is the type of pitcher, nor the quality pitcher, to be a closer. Caden McDonald had Tommy John surgery in January and it's not known how long his rehab will take nor if he'll still be a 2-way player or able to pitch with the effectiveness he had in high school. Christian Rodriguez, also, had Tommy John surgery earlier this year and the same applies to him. Recovery normally takes at least 9 months, sometimes a year or more, and getting back into live pitching condition can take much longer. Alex Philpott took his name out of the portal and will be on the team. Cade Fisher transferred to Auburn & Grayson Smith transferred to Tulane. Robert Satin transferred to Tampa & Reilly Witmer transferred to FAU. Michael Robertson has transferred to Auburn, Landon Russell has transferred to Stetson, John Martinez to FAU, and Sammy Mummau has transferred to Jacksonville. Hunter Jones, Blake Brookins and Jacob Gomberg are all in the transfer portal, but it's been reported that Jones will probably leave, while Brookins & Gomberg will probably return to Florida. Frank Menendez never entered the transfer portal and is pitching for Charlottesville in the Valley summer league, where Blake Brookins is, also, playing. Both are being reported on Floridagators.com among 9 Gators competing in various summer leagues.
Also, our incoming freshman recruits are in the 2024 class, not 2025. Here's the link: https://www.perfectgame.org/College/CollegeCommitments.aspx?college=1774
The top recruit, SS Kellon Lindsey, was drafted in the 1st round and signed by the Dodgers. SS Brendon Lawson and P Jason Dubanewicz were, also, drafted but said they are coming to Florida. There is another SS in the class, plus a 1st baseman and outfielder and a catcher, plus 8 RHP's and 1 LHP.

The last perfect guy got himself nailed to a cross, so I think I'll pass on being perfect.
(and if he came back today, the same kind of demonrats would try to do it again)

And if you two believe that I'm overly worried about not being 100% correct, you're just as smart as I've come to expect here.
Now I'll just leave you two to keep on patting each other on the back, while I go have a beer and a cigar..... 😎

You can never simply say you messed up can you? First you make the ridiculous claim that you planned your post full of bogus information and when that's challenged you now say you aren't perfect and try to turn it around on me for simply posting facts and accurate information. What a hypocrite! Makes me wonder how many of your other posts are just thrown out there without research and verification. You damage your credibility with this kind of crap, my man. Own your screw up and move on.

Well that blows.
A surprise for sure. He was drafted in the 16th round. No slot value there and yet the Brewers gave him $665,000 to sign. This was one of the pitchers I thought could contribute for the Gators in 2025.

Actually looks like Purnell signed with an unaffiliated minor league team along with Dale Thomas.

His Gator career was kind a head scratcher. Pitched pretty well his freshman year and I think actually may have saved a couple games. But could never get Sully’s confidence after that. Last year when we were really going through it and couldn’t get anyone out, I thought he might get a look but he didn’t. I think Sully is pretty demanding of his pitchers and seems like it’s hard to get out of his doghouse. Satin was kind of like that. Came in and pitched some important innings and then collapsed and could never get it back.

I will contune calling you out when your post false information. I've done it several times, as have others, and you NEVER admit your mistakes. You just lamely try to turn it around and blame others. I think you're a closet Democrat! And for someone who says they don 't care, you sure fire back like you live and breathe what people say about you. Lots of Karen feeling there bud - just like a liberal socialist. You're not a soccer Mom are you? Just for the few Karen's like ocala here:

Anyone here can refer to my last quarter century of posting here to prove this for yourself, Karen's claims notwithstanding.
