Some lackadaisical ball handling with 9 TO's and going 22 of 35 at the FT line is what cost the Gators the UK game imo....

I agree that 13 missed free throws, many by our more reliable guys at the line, was definitely a major factor. We're averaging 13.2 turnovers per game so 9 against Kentucky is actually pretty good. I will say that a few of them came at very critical times in the game and definitely hurt. I think that in addition to the missed free throws, our 3-point defense was the other primary factor, allowing them to make 14-29 (48.3%). A few of those were just great shots under pressure, but most were due to our guys not getting out quickly enough to defend the shot. Koby Brea was 7-9 shooting 3's. He's known to be one of the best long range shooters in the nation and we should have put emphasis on defending him better. Maybe we did and the guys just didn't execute.
Handlogten is a player and will be fired up to go next year. And I, also, think it's nuts that we don't play Kentucky home & home. It's been a big SEC basketball rivalry for decades, but of course the SEC rulers screwed up the scheduling as usual.

I love Golden's comments about KY. However, I have bad news for him, SEC hates Florida and if he's expecting them to do the right thing with scheduling, he shouldn't hold his breath. Wouldn't shock me to see us playing at Rupp twice next season knowing those nitwits in Birmingham.
Here is one reason it's so important to get a win in this home TN game for seeding purposes. This is our schedule against the really high ranked SEC teams.

The SEC definitely loves to drop the hammer on UF whenever they can.
It's funny having to explain this to other Gator fans.. Like just pay attention over the years, much less look at the schedules right now in both major sports. How many games in your life as a Gator fan have you objectively been able to sit back and be like "well we're getting the whistles today".. The closest I can think of ever in football was the 09 Arkansas game in the Swamp, and never in basketball.. hell our back to back Title team got f'd worse by officials the 2nd time around all year.

Walter Clayton had his worst 1/2 as a Gator: 0-6 shooting, 2 fouls and 4 turnovers. Yet Gators lead #1 Tennessee 35-15 at halftime. We're not shooting well as a team, but our big guys are dominating the boards and the defense has been tenacious so far.
My brother, nieces and myself missed UF build a 9 point lead as returning students lined up for first come, first serve entry and we were in line 40 minutes before tipoff.
Gators beat Tennessee 73-43. Dominating the boards and suffocating them on defense. Outscored them in the paint 40-14. Incredible performace and a tremendous bpunceback defensively from the Saturday game. Walter Clayton and Will Richard didn't do much, but Aberdeen, Martin, Condon, Chinyelu and Haugh more than made up the slack. Great win for Todd Golden and his team.
I didnt even recognize Walter Clayton with the new clean cut hairstyle. The Vols got trucked in Gainesville badly

I think we should have played KY a little differently. All their losses seem to be the teams that really made a point to contest their 3 point shooting and not get in a high scoring match with them.
Great energy by the Gators tonight. Vols being ice cold certainly helped, as they missed some wide open looks. Big difference was in the paint, where we owned them.

I got a little nervous when I saw his hair shorter at the start of the season as I could only think of Sampson losing his strength after getting his locks chopped. Same thing happened with former Gator Kowace Reeves. During his freshman season, Reeves looked like the next rising star. His sophomore year, with most of his hair shaved, was sort of horrible.
The announcers always looked forward to Reeves coming off the bench just to talk about his once badass hairdo.
Once Mike White left Florida for Georgia, I don't think @Insta cares one way or another how the the Bulldogs do. Not trying to speak for him, but from all of his postings over the years, that's how I think he'll react. He's not a Georgia fan for sure. Insta did nothing but trash Golden during his 1st season at UF and how we were stupid enough to let go of a coach who won 20 games(barely) in 4 out his 6 years in Gainesville.
Insta also loves to bring up Donovan's 15-16 record in 2015 to justify Mike White's tenure at UF.
Just messing with him but I do think @instaGATOR likes to see Mike White winning when he isn't playing the Gators because we ran him off. Looks like the 2 GA games will be important this season as they look improved also.

Last night was a full house. I know students were turned away.
This Gator team can be something special this year. I would rank the two best teams in the SEC as Auburn and Florida. Tennessee and Kentucky are a notch below. Both have shown they are not good road teams.
This team is a nightmare to game plan against. A three headed monster. They can play half court and destroy you in the paint and forget about an offensive rebound. They can run and gun track meet style and they are relentless defensively. Add in the great depth as well. Very much like Auburn.
Golden was trash his 1st season, he took over a winner and made it a loser, so I agree with that one.
We being stupid certainly includes you, so I'm good with that one too.
It's a fact that White took over a 15-16 loser team and never missed taking them to a post season tourney.
Stupid (imo) is anyone that thinks that's bad, considering that White is the only B-Ball HC to ever do that at UF.
PS - White was also a 4.0 Character Coach, unlike the current (imo) slimeball that's here now.

I mentioned to my better half during the game, that if I'd have been a ref, I'd have fouled out both teams by half time....
And oh BTW, Clayton's 'inconsistency' in games continues.
Still, he's a decent kid with plenty of talent, so I hope he can get it turned around soon....

It's crazy how good the sec has become over the past 2 seasons. The conference last year was deepest I've ever seen, and now this year it's even deeper. Fun watching us being able to score points, just need to keep the focus on defense. Golden has done a great job in just two short years making us relevant on the national scene again.
Agree (mostly). You can bet your a$$ that tennersee’s game plan was to shut down Clayton and Richard which they did, however they had no answer for Aberdeen and Martin and the three chairmen of the boards (Chinyelu, Condon and Haugh) dominated.
Every team's game plan is to shut down Clayton. He's our best player. After inconsistently torching the cats for 33 points, no doubt regular season rick wanted to take him away. Good news for ole rick is the refs helped him out with 2 quick fouls. That pretty much took Clayton out of establishing any rhythm.
Mostly agree, but Clayton has shut himself down imo.
I asked a while beck if he'd lost his girlfriend or sumptin?
He's been in an inconsistency slump for a while now, no matter the opponent....
