2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

The claim that Clayton is unlikely to be drafted due to his height is a bogus argument to begin with. It's a BS dodge from the get-go, but typical for you.

Average height in the NBA is not important. The important question is can a 6-3 or shorter SG play in the NBA or not. Undersized on an average is easily and routinely trumped by talent, and talent level is the primary question. Recently, Pelicans SG JJ Redick remembered something that the short PF Charles Barkley told him long back. Barkley once told Redick that he is ‘too small’ to be a shooting guard. Well, does that logic even fit in? Moreover, height doesn’t seem to be the basis for changing positions. Despite Charles telling him otherwise, Redick also believed in sticking to the shooting guard position.

“Hey man, there’s no way you’re going to be able to be a two-guard in the NBA. I said, ‘Okay’. And he said you need to be a point guard. I said, ‘Okay’.” Redick narrated on his podcast, “He (Barkley) said, ‘You’re just too small.’ And I remember thinking to myself ‘What? Why do I have to change positions? I’ll make it work.'” JJ Redick is not the only short heightened shooting guard in the NBA

JJ is 6-3
and that may be considered to be an average height in basketball. But the short ones like Stephen Curry are also doing an incredible job there. Redick was drafted back in 2006 by Orlando Magic. He was known for his 3-point shooting even in his college career. After being traded to a couple of franchises like 76ers and Clippers, he hopped to Pelicans last season.

In the history of the NBA, there were notable shooting guards with almost the same height as Redick. Renowned names like Allen Iverson and Dwyane Wade are some of those who made excellent players at that position despite being around 6 ft.

Now that I've dealt with the usual stupidity, moving on back to the original thoughts....

If you'd been paying attention, I didn't say I'd permanently bench him or throw him off the team, I said that I'd spur his practice and playing by developing and using the other dedicated PG's on the roster more. That would also be an aid in preparing who plays PG next season, or gets injured this season.

Now, you can go back to blindly pushing Walter while ignoring any faults that he might have, while I'll go back to ignoring the crap that you post on a regular basis...
😎
Let's just all be thankful you are not coaching any Gator sports. By the way, they stopped using peach baskets years ago and it's legal to dunk now. Goodness you spin in 30 different directions

Some lackadaisical ball handling with 9 TO's and going 22 of 35 at the FT line is what cost the Gators the UK game imo....

This is, I think, a pretty good read on what Golden had to say about the loss to UK and the coming challenge of Tennis-sea in the Dome...

Oh BTW, I'm really missing not having Handlogten in the games now....

Golden on playing UK twice a season, for those talking about it:

"Absolutely, I think that goes without saying. I learned very quickly when I got down here, how important that rivalry was, and how much it meant to people to be able to see these teams play. You know, you go on the road and play them and you don't get them at home, so what I would really like is next year for them to come play us here, us not return it to Rupp, and then the next year (play twice) that would be fair."

I agree that 13 missed free throws, many by our more reliable guys at the line, was definitely a major factor. We're averaging 13.2 turnovers per game so 9 against Kentucky is actually pretty good. I will say that a few of them came at very critical times in the game and definitely hurt. I think that in addition to the missed free throws, our 3-point defense was the other primary factor, allowing them to make 14-29 (48.3%). A few of those were just great shots under pressure, but most were due to our guys not getting out quickly enough to defend the shot. Koby Brea was 7-9 shooting 3's. He's known to be one of the best long range shooters in the nation and we should have put emphasis on defending him better. Maybe we did and the guys just didn't execute.
Handlogten is a player and will be fired up to go next year. And I, also, think it's nuts that we don't play Kentucky home & home. It's been a big SEC basketball rivalry for decades, but of course the SEC rulers screwed up the scheduling as usual.

I love Golden's comments about KY. However, I have bad news for him, SEC hates Florida and if he's expecting them to do the right thing with scheduling, he shouldn't hold his breath. Wouldn't shock me to see us playing at Rupp twice next season knowing those nitwits in Birmingham.

The SEC definitely loves to drop the hammer on UF whenever they can.
It's funny having to explain this to other Gator fans.. Like just pay attention over the years, much less look at the schedules right now in both major sports. How many games in your life as a Gator fan have you objectively been able to sit back and be like "well we're getting the whistles today".. The closest I can think of ever in football was the 09 Arkansas game in the Swamp, and never in basketball.. hell our back to back Title team got f'd worse by officials the 2nd time around all year.

We scored so much it didn't usually matter but the joke holding calls we got with Spurrier here on so many big plays was crazy.

UF top scorer has 2 fouls early.. at home

The best part is this is a prison ball game like the Auburn game last year which of course favors UT they're just missing every single shot they take so far.

they're either calling off ball nickel dimers or letting them tackle each other and calling nothing

Walter Clayton had his worst 1/2 as a Gator: 0-6 shooting, 2 fouls and 4 turnovers. Yet Gators lead #1 Tennessee 35-15 at halftime. We're not shooting well as a team, but our big guys are dominating the boards and the defense has been tenacious so far.

Gators beat Tennessee 73-43. Dominating the boards and suffocating them on defense. Outscored them in the paint 40-14. Incredible performace and a tremendous bpunceback defensively from the Saturday game. Walter Clayton and Will Richard didn't do much, but Aberdeen, Martin, Condon, Chinyelu and Haugh more than made up the slack. Great win for Todd Golden and his team.

I didnt even recognize Walter Clayton with the new clean cut hairstyle. The Vols got trucked in Gainesville badly

This conference is going to cannibalize itself. Auburn may be good enough to win most of their road games.

I think we should have played KY a little differently. All their losses seem to be the teams that really made a point to contest their 3 point shooting and not get in a high scoring match with them.

Great energy by the Gators tonight. Vols being ice cold certainly helped, as they missed some wide open looks. Big difference was in the paint, where we owned them.
