2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

The keys to that short story are: I WILL SAY & I BELIEVE.

Which of course anyone posting here is free to do.

This however is a biased personal attack judgment imo:
"Blaming the officials for a Gator loss is a loser's mentality."

==========

I guess that in this case I'll just say in a general non-specific and undirected way,,,,
that it takes an experienced LOSER to make those biased statements, and let it go at that....
😇
You believe what you believe and so do I. I just can't stand when SOME posters blame the officials every time the Gators lose a game in any sport. But there are some who do. And I say this in a general, non-specific way. While the officials do have an impact on all games, none are out to cause one team to lose or another to win. They just do the best they can, some better than others. Of course, I object to some calls that are made against the Gators, but then I see infractions our athletes commit that don't get called. But I see no intentional bias. What possible reason could there be for that? A nationwide conspiracy against Florida? Continually, in every sport? The idea that officials are out to get the Gators is, to me, ludicrous. But it seems that some feel that way. Classy losers accept defeat with grace and learn from it. Classless losers make excuses or try to find someone to blame - like Dan Hurley after UCONN lost to Florida. A loser's mentality. And, again, this is all said in a general, non-specific way. ;)
I'm one of those people who firmly believes in no excuses for anything in life. For the most part, people get what they deserve and making excuses makes them weaker by not accepting responsibility or being accountable for their actions. That's a loser's mentality. That applies to all of life, IMO, not just sports. Our society has been ruined by excuse-makers and those who never accept responsibility for their actions, while blaming others for whatever goes wrong in their lives. People feel entitled without working for things and resent what others have that they don't. I detest that attitude. But, of course, that's just my belief. Others have theirs. Life is good. Go Gators!!

I will say it before the Final 4. There is no biased officiating against the Florida Gators in the NCAA tournament, especially the Final 4. If we win it will be because we played the better game. If we lose it will be because the other team played the better game. Blaming the officials for a Gator loss is a loser's mentality and to think there is bias against Florida at this level is, to me, crazy. Refs make mistakes, players make mistakes, but none of it is intentional. It's part of the game, especially with all the physicality that is allowed in college basketball today. There is literally a foul on every possession and the refs do their best to call the ones that affect the play or are so obvious they can't be ignored, without the intent to help or harm either team. I believe that with all my heart and if some disagree with me, that's fine. Now, may the Gators be the best team on Saturday and Monday and take home the title!! Go Gators!

You hope to not let the officials determine a game and I hope the officials don't determine the winners coming up but they certainly have in the past with some games with seemingly biased officiating.

The best way to know if the refs are mostly screwing one team over another is the fans from teams with no interest in who wins the game. If they are saying one team is being whistled much more for similar things than the other team you probably are getting poor treatment by the refs.

I've spoken my beliefs and explained them as best I can. Not going to comment on it anymore except to say that from my perspective any bias is in the eyes of the fans, not the officials.

It's funny, I have NEVER heard a fan say "We won because of beneficial calls from the officials." Go to ANY board of a losing team and there will be some that will say it is because of the bad/lopsided fouls called against us.

OK but there are games the refs clearly screw one team over another with calls and sometimes that can cause the team to lose.

I have admitted to bad calls helping the Gators in games before when it was obvious. Basketball is different than football but you can tell when the refs for whatever reason are allowing one team to get away with more stuff on defense than the other team in some games. I have seen this as a neutral fan not rooting for either of the teams. Spurrier's teams got the most BS holding calls I ever saw when he was rolling the SEC. I figured they were hoping to slow the blowouts down.

From what I've seen in the last two UF games, looks as if the calls almost went both ways as vs TT, we were at the FT line 14 times more, but that traveling Queen of MD got more than enough favorable calls, and it showed vs Colorado State.

We won the game and it wasn't real bad but UConn for much of the game seemed to not get called as much for similar stuff we were getting called for. That is why it was so funny their coach was crying about a call near the end. The number of fouls called might have been similar but it seemed UConn was getting a little leeway on their physical play compared to when we did it. The rest of our games I don't think I noticed much disparity in how the refs allowed the teams to play defense.

That's why I didn't mention UCONN. Without Dairy Queen getting coddled by the refs, and the insane turnovers vd Maryland, we win by almost 30.

I am of the opinion most referees try not to be biased. I do think coaches know the referees they can intimidate and you see them yelling at certain referees during the game. Some referees handle this better than others.

I also believe some of the SEC referees are just plain bad. Probably the worst in college basketball. If I could change one thing in basketball it would be the amount of time referees spend in front of the TV monitor trying to figure out who has the ball, what type of foul to call and time on the clock. Going to the monitor is a good thing when done right but for some reason games are extended as much as a half hour by refs staring at the monitor screen.

I guess that your short di... uh short memory forgot about the Ripoff on Rocky Top then....
If you're talking about the 2004 game, that was b1tch call by the refs to ignore the UT player as Dallas Baker retaliated. Then again, if we win that game, Zook most likely gets another season while Urban Meyer ends up at Notre Dame.

None of the Zook/Meyer BS is pertinent to the biased/incompetent/corrupt officials discussion dud3, but I guess that's nothing new for you.... 😇
