2023 Baseball & Softball Thread

Things got pretty sketchy. I don’t know what’s going on with our bullpen management. But whatever. So far so good.

No the pretties performance and O'Sullivan made a huge blunder in causing Neely to be taken out. But they got the win and moved on. Great outcome.
Sully's asshole was puckered when he realized what he'd done. But we escaped anyway. He looked like he could have crawled up a drainage pipe. 😂

TCU just knocked out Virginia 4-3. So we don't have to worry about facing them again. Gators need to take care of business tonight and they're off until Wednesday and somebody will have to beat them twice to get to the championship series. Lose tonight and we have to win 3 in a row.
I was hoping Wake Forest would get sent to the losers bracket and they nearly did. Their bats were nearly silenced which surprised me.

Oral Roberts is really good. They outhit, outpitched and played better D. But they did not outscore us which is all that really matters. Top of our lineup has stunk it up first two games. Got to get them going...hopefully an extra day off is just what they need. Would love to see tcu and oru play a 23 inning game on tuesday.

Just looking at schedule for rest of CWS - Sully so right about us winning 1st two games - we will be rested.

Wonder who Sully will put on the mound against TCU/ORU ?

Not sure who I would rather face - NO bad teams here.
Pretty sure he'll start Caglionone Wednesday afternoon.

Ocala,

Sully seems big on keeping to his pitching rotation, so you are probably right.

I have never seen Cags pitch, so looking forward to it.

Ocala
With Cags on the mound, who will play 1st base ?
Last night the analysts mentioned what most of already witnessed, that Caglione has a problem throwing strikes. Against Tinerceeee, he gave up a minimum of 4 walks in a row.

Heyman. Batting order stays the same because Cags still hits when pitching so no DH. A few times this year Riopelle has played 1st and Heyman caught, but Riopelle is such a great handler of pitchers, he's going to be behind the plate every game in the CWS. I've watch Caglionone pitch every time and his problem is control. When he's not walking or hitting guys, he's very effective. Doesn't give up many hits.

Agree Ocala. If JC is on his stuff is very nasty. We will be rested with a full bullpen. Best case scenario is obviously get the W then that sets us up perfectly for champ series. We have got to get the bats going...need to top to start hitting.

Ocala,

You're scaring me !

Not what you want a starting pitcher in CWS known for.

Country,

You're NOT making me feel any better !

IF CAGS IS ON & LACK of CONTROL
pretty much saying the same thing -
who know what pitcher takes the mound -
Dr Jekyll or Mr. Hyde ???
YIKES !

Cags has been pretty good his past three or four starts. To Ocala’s point, his batting average against is the best on the team, below .200 I believe. And his K/walk is about 3/1.

I also think it gives him a chance to get going in this tournament. Not too many sluggers who are struggling at bat can go out and strikeout 10 for you.

Brad,

IF he IS ON ?

Aren't you just A RAY of Sunshine ?

Guess that's why Sully gets the big bucks.

You are right of course. But I think he has had three good starts since.

Cags actually has the lowest ERA and the lowest opponent batting average among our starting pitchers. But on a walks per inning he is the highest. Good news about Cags is you will know right away if he is off or on. If he is hitting his spots in the first inning, then you can expect 5-6 really good innings from him.

Another way to look at it is if the ump calling strikes on the spots he hits, he'll be fine. The strike zone has been very inconsistent in the CWS and seems to even change during the game.

Ocala,

Realize that Umps are people too & make mistakes,
BUT
you would hope for a CONSISTENT Strike Zone - especially at CWS !

Good for both pitchers & batters.

I’m not so sure I want LSU. They’re hitting rockets all over the field and Skenes is about as close to a guaranteed w as it gets.

WFU’s pitching is probably deeper over 3 games.

Brad,

Careful what you wish for - You may get it !

LSU 2 ---- WAKE 3

Wake closer Minacci no slouch; Wake wins the game

Lots of Lsu fans have been trash-talking lately about them being the "only" team in the cws that can win convincingly. They have essentially been making fun of teams who need to rally....

Kinda ironic that wf rallied against them late and that lsu would have loved some 9th inning heroics for themselves.

Former Coastal Carolina catcher Tanner Garrison, a senior who started 16 games at backstop for the Chanticleers in 2023, is transferring to Florida. The 6-foot-3 backstop already appears in Florida's academic database, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

An experienced catcher who made his collegiate debut at Coastal Carolina in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, Garrison experienced his most productive offensive season of his career last year when he hit .273 with six home runs and recorded a very respectable .984 OPS. Garrison's .588 slugging percentage ranked fourth among all Chanticleer players regardless of total amount of at-bats and he was one of nine players who hit at least five home runs on the campaign, though it should be noted that he was the only player on the team to do so in fewer than 150 at-bats (80). Garrison also put together a very productive summer in the Valley Baseball League, where he batted .299 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 29 games.

For the rest of the story....

Somewhat old news, but I don't think they've been reported on this board, so maybe it will be new to some.

Riopelle worked out pretty good from Coastal Carolina.
