2023 Baseball & Softball Thread

Yep...I'm taking credit for the reverse negative post getting things turned around.

Probably 99.9% of uf fans likely felt the same way at the time, even if they don't admit it. I didn't say anything at all, but thought the same.

As for Oral, idk why....but they give me fgcu(basketball) vibes. Maybe it's because UF tends to be the obstacle to Cinderella teams as of late. Hopefully the outcome is the same.

What the Gators did last night was no easy feat. Consider the below two statistics:

Virginia was 46-0 this season when leading after eight innings and 36-0 when holding teams to 4 runs or less.
They led 5-3 going to the bottom of the 9th inning vs. Florida.

Virginia reliever Jake Berry had allowed three home runs in 48 2/3 IP this season. #Gators smacked three out in 1 2/3 against Berry.

That was just a great game. One of the best baseball games I’ve ever seen. Langford with the bomb. This team just does not quit.
Paco,

The team didn't quit - but I almost did.

Someone (Country ?) had just posted we were going to have to climb out of the loser's bracket & I was all set to turn off my Internet Radio (listening to baseball games on radio a relic of my early youth) but the 1st home run in the bottom of the 9th ensued & I couldn't turn it off - even if the agony of a game 1 loss played out.

Glad I didn't !

Hell of a comeback.

Yep. Very impressive. I tossed in the towel after the 4th run crossed the plate.

There's no way the young man next to Peyton is his son. The forehead is not big enough. It also seems like every time Mr. Forehead shows up at our venues, there's almost always a win involved.

Sully himself!

weather delay screwed them. I’m sure they would have preferred not to pitch that kid in that spot.

Top 6th
LSU over Tenn
2 - 0
6 - 3 Bot 8th
Hoping some of that late inning magic helps Tenn beat LSU.

LSU pitcher PAUL SKENES the real deal.

Tenn needs the magic; its now or never

What do you call two gay guys named Bob?

Oral Roberts....

ORU is a pretty consistent baseball program. They are 52-12, 23-1 in the Summit League, plus won their conference tournament. They came into the NCAA tournament as a 4 seed in the Oklahoma State Regional, beat #1 OK St. 6-4, then Washington 15-12, then Dallas Baptist 6-5. They played the Super Regional at Oregon, lost the first gamed 9-8, then beat the Ducks 8-7 & 11-6. Their RPI is #45, SOS #238. They are 8-5 against Top 50 RPI teams. 34 of their games have been against teams with RPI's #200+, where they are 32-2. Team BA is .322 and they have a legit MLB prospect in Jonah Cox. Team ERA is 3.99 and they're an excellent defensive team, fielding at .984. They are a solid team, but we are better. Every team in Omaha is playing well, so we can't take a win for granted.

Gators prepare for resilient ballclub in Oral Roberts

Sunday at 7:00 PM EST in the winner’s bracket.

As Sully says - if the Gators can win this game, then the surviving team in their bracket has to beat them twice.

A little more to read & think about.

FWIW, at my age, hard to not be "Old School."
I like to listen to the games on radio & let my mind's eye "paint the picture."

Jeff, my 'Old School' habit is to watch it on the tube, but with the commentators sound turned off.

This allows me to watch the game, judge the play for myself, and mostly ignore the media-morons constant babble...

I'm just glad Ben McDonald is not our color commentator. He constantly drones on with his corn pone Louisiana stories. He's very knowledgeable about the game, but loses focus and loves to hear himself talk. We get Kyle Peterson tonight, who still does a little of that from his Stanford perspective - but I've always liked listening to his game commentary.

Each of us 'old guys' has our own ways of looking at things, just as it should be. 😉

Well I’m like you in that I turn the sound off but listen to the gator network

TCU just knocked out Virginia 4-3. So we don't have to worry about facing them again. Gators need to take care of business tonight and they're off until Wednesday and somebody will have to beat them twice to get to the championship series. Lose tonight and we have to win 3 in a row.
