Football As Long As Billy Is Our Coach…

I will support him 100%.
I was as disappointed as everyone else after the game and voiced that reaction in several posts over the Weekend.
But the truth is, if we fire him now or during the Season, who replaces him?
I wouldn’t trust anyone on this staff to take over the Program.
The best we can do is hope that things get turned around and if not, we make a move after fsu.
The current negativity serves only our rivals.
Start DJ, let him take his lumps and make this his team. Hopefully that keeps him around if we part ways with CBN.

Football Line of Scrimmage league

Elite OL and DL win championships, Nick Saban and Alabama went on a 10 year run proving that having NFL caliber lineman on both sides of the ball will have you playing for NCs year in and year out. elite talent alone does not automatically get you 10 win seasons and NC appearances, combine that with excellent strength and conditioning programs, high caliber coaching and development and you have a recipe for success. See Georgia, Texas, Ohio St, Michigan as other examples of teams that consistently bring in and land high end OL/DL talent. Someone in another thread posted a stat that said the last time we landed a top 100 OL was 9 years ago!! 9 years ago was the last time we had an elite top 100 OL. That can not and should not happen at UF. Apparently we are top 10 in NIL at the moment. Why are we rolling out guys like Barber who is arguably our best OL, sadly he wouldn't crack the starting lineups at Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Harris looks to be a good solid player once he gets more experience under his belt, Jake Slaughter also wouldn't start at those programs either. George, Waits, BCD/Manuell wouldn't start at Kentucky. why are we still trying to get by with Hevesy/Sale specials and expecting different results? Mertz nearly got killed and was running for his life most of the game, he ends up in the concussion protocol bc of the right side of the line. DL is the same story...SLackman im sure was a great player and teamate at Upenn, Cam Jackson, Banks, and Dez are all plan B type guys. We were told that George Gumbs was the DE replacement for Princely, we didn't need a rush edge, Cam Ward didn't have one grass stain on his jersey and had all day to throw. if we want to give the next staff a fair shot at getting us back to championship caliber football, it has to start with the trenches, we need to stop pursuing everyone's rejects and guys that get recruited over, the trenches are what is going to get us back and back faster than anything else. The new staff and regime deserve this, Gator nation deserves it.

Curious which season people felt more more enjoyable. 2012 had a better record and we were pretty close to being ranked in the top 2 at the end of the regular season which means we would have played Bama for the title. However, we were a hard team to watch especially after the UGA game. 2020 had the exciting offense and we played a good game in the SEC title game, but still ended up 8-4.

Basketball Some positivity (not football)

Football is cooked, no need for another thread about Billy sucking and who we need. Those questions will be answered in the coming months, kiffin me.

On to basketball, should be a fun year. A little concerned about playmaking on offense at the guard spot (other than Clayton) but we should be elite defensively. What are yalls concerns and excitement? As well as @Tarjf and @Celtics99, any concerns and excitement? Can’t wait!

Football How much of yesterday was on Mertz?

I haven't watched the replay (and probably can't stomach it anyway) but he looked off yesterday. Couldn't convert on 3rd downs, threw into triple teams. When you have a jailbreak for an OLine you have to go to Lagaway and have his feet be a weapon that Mertz doesn't have. I appreciate Mertz trying to be a leader but with the team we need a playmaker at QB and just live with the mistakes that will come with Lagaway. Mertz couldn't get this team going yesterday

Football It’s simply recruiting

After 24 hours of pondering in thought about where the state of this program sits, I’ve come to a simple conclusion.

First, my 81 year old father and I walked into the swamp for our 54th season in section 17. Walking in I did not believe the highlight of the day would be that walk with my father, but it was and I am truly grateful to be with him. We have witnessed some incredible wins, heartbreaking losses, a bad tie to Rutgers and ga tech in 79’, and many, many more great times together. That said, yesterday was likely the most unexpected and disappointing performance we have ever witnessed and that includes the entire 1979 season.

All that said, Billy Napier is a solid man and I speak at times with a very big booster and he has said nothing but great things about Billy as a person and a man. Current state of program started in 2010 when Meyer left. Slowly but surely Bama, Clemson, uga, TOSU to name the big ones of taken over the recruiting in our state. This did not culminate yesterday, it has been in the making for awhile. When your starting backfield and WR’s, and best players all come from the portal on both sides of the ball and you are the signature university in the most talent rich state in the country -.you have a problem that is not being addressed. One nfl draft pick this year and he was a transfer is all you need to say on the state of recruiting.

It does not matter how many facilities you build, NIL money you raise, presidents you hire, ad’s you hire, or coaches you hire or have on staff it will not improve until we get elite players that want to come to UF because we are UF and stay here to play for the great tradition. Otherwise, we are our wasting time and money. Our boosters and alumni will eventually stop putting their money into a zero return venture. Leaving Florida field yesterday was a sicken feeling. Find a proven head coach who can recruit and will sell the brand. It’s that simple.
