Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams will enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Williams is coming off an outstanding season at Oklahoma that earned him a spot on the 247Sports True Freshman All-American Team.

He held on to the starting job for the rest of the year, completing 136 of 211 passes (64.6 pct.) for 1,912 yards with 21 touchdowns and four interceptions over 11 games. He also rushed for 442 yards and six touchdowns on 79 carries.

Per Blake Brockermeyer
Hearing from multiple sources Georgia is the top landing spot unless they get OUTBID.

Does this mean that top college football players will "shop out" their services using NIL ?

Oh My ! Will CFB becomes a pay for play minor league for the NFL.

Not good news for Gators !

Guess we may have to look at the Vanderbilt Sports Model -

Good Academics
Good Baseball
Decent Basketball
Yes, we also play Football & home game tickets are always available at a bargain

Yep this is where NIL is headed. Georgia will offer this and he can go back to Oklahoma and ask them to match it. That's how TAMU is getting all the recruits is OIL money and boosters. Bryce Young was making 7 figures before he played his first game. What you think he's gonna get after winning the Heisman and possible National Championship?

At some point there will be an "agreement" among top schools to not poach each others players, but schools will have another, lesser school (or more than one) they use as a farm team.

LG89.

Perhaps we should use the School Out West as one of our Farm Teams !

They still have the FSU Flying High Circus right ?

USC bound or goes back to OU imo
fsu39913,

See your point; Riley now at S Cal; Venables at OU; neither school is poor; would rather have him go to one of them than UGA.

Even though it was in fun; thought you would jump on my comment about making FSU a UF farm team rather than making a rational statement on where Caleb Williams ends up.

Caleb will definitely collect a few bucks by going through this process.

Surely we could find a better farm team? Jacksonville state maybe.

And why would you think there is any other reason than money involved in these quality players transfer? I mean come on, this is all commercial. If the rest of the football communities top tier teams don't come up with big money (like T A&M ),appears to have done, then good bye good old Saturday night football.
It plain old sucks gentlemen, maybe being old has its advantages if you enjoy college football like it used to be. Napier may be the best coach in the country, but w/o adequate funding he will just be another coach. This is all just my opinion but I stand by it........jim

Yep this is a disturbing trend. Hope we have some big boosters willing to play this game some. The SEC already has 5 teams that are now playing this game.

Fever,

1st 3 are easy; they are listed as the top 3 in the SEC & nationally as well

aTm
Bama
UGA

not sure of the last 2; just looked at ranking for these possibilities;

Big point drop to the next 5 schools

Kentucky - Mark Stoops
Missouri - Eliah Drinkwitz
Tenn - Josh Heupel
Auburn - Bryan Harsin (who ?)
LSU - Brian Kelly

Realize that I am not dialed into recruiting; but FWIW, I didn't see/hear about any of the other SEC schools throwing around wads of NIL cash.

If they are, they're not getting their money's worth

would love your thoughts

Gators #14 in the SEC, so no idea how Napier will handle "legal" NIL cash or if we even have any; from the lack of commits reported from the All Star games; we are SOL for NIL cash

We can always pursue the Vanderbilt option till CFB decides to stop subsidizing the NFL -
Academics
Baseball
Basketball
Football

3 Reasons Caleb Williams won’t be with the Florida Gators

1. New coach/staff - unknown offense
2. Lack of weapons - no receivers, OL
3. Lack of recent success - no CFP berth; no Nattie since 2009

I added this; because I think all the additional support staff has temporarily tapped Gators' piggybank.
But we need the infrastructure as well as the NIL $$$.
4. No NIL funding

Well its 5 SEC schools if you count Texas now. LSU is the other one and will be right up there with the next class and they apparently bought some highly ranked ones this class even though its small right now. Those are the ones in the SEC I am worried about when it comes to this mess and even the Miss schools will buy a couple of top players each season I would think. Depending on what we do with NIL I guess we couldn't even give Napier much mess if he recruits out of the top 5 every year with these top 150 players if we aren't competitive with those 5 SEC schools in that.

Fever,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts !

Was stupid enough to think that Kelly (ex ND) at LSU wouldn't go that route; but not sure any school who wants to recruit effectively will have that option.

Curious, if Texas, why not Oklahoma? They will still have the Red River Shootout & both will move to the SEC shortly.

Somebody was giving Barry Switzer plenty of cash for many years !

CHRISTY GAYLORD EVEREST - Biggest OKLAHOMA Booster ?

The former CEO and owner of the Oklahoman Newspaper has supported the University for years. The football stadium is named after the family (Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium).

May not compare to T. Boone Pickens (oil & gas ?) at Oklahoma State, but damn sure more money than me ! LOL

Oklahoma I think is like us right now. We will see what happens with them and if their biggest boosters will go that route. I do know Riley was pulling a lot of top ones out of Texas but that will probably be harder to do now.

Tebow,

Offer could be legit; Travis Hunter did something similar but he is a defensive player not a QB; no chance in hell that Caleb takes him up on the offer.

Eastern Michigan has no chance of getting into CFP & doubt they have all the pieces that Caleb would want his new team to have.

Incredible how rapidly NIL is escalating !

Texas will dwarf them when it joins the SEC.
MOM,
You could be right, but despite all their financial advantages, the Longhorns, under their last three Head Coaches - Charlie Strong, Tom Herman, & Steve Sarkisian are a combined 53 - 46 with Sarkisian bringing up the rear with his current record at Texas of 5 - 7.

Those three Head Coaches combined to win zero National and Zero Conference Championships since 2014.

The Longhorns have only finished the season in the AP Top 25 four times since their BCS championship loss in 2009.

Steve Spurrier on Texas Moving to SEC: 'They Can’t Win the Big 12 Anyway'

Seems to me, if Texas will start "dwarfing" the SEC upon their arrival, they would have "dwarfed" the Big 12 for all these years as a warmup.

Having resources & using them effectively are often two different things.

JfromJ I don't disagree with that at all. I lived in Texas for 20 years and the Longhorns ALWAYS pull in huge talent - but it hasn't translated to winning championships.

EMU also runs a very slow, run based offense.

Caleb would not only be going to the MAC but he would also not be able to showcase his talent.

Would be a terrible fit.

But kuddos to EMU for trying

Texas and A&M have money like no other. They are the only two schools in the Top 10 in Endowments right there with those Ivy League schools. Athletically, they have unlimited resources.

Although Texas has been down for many years, all it takes is one good coach and they we will right there. They have just made poor decisions with their coaches since Brown. I think Sark is the right guy.

You may not want to hear this, but Georgia was a sleeping giant. They had everything going for them, Facilities, Fanbase, money and excellent recruiting in the state. They just needed the right coach. Texas is the same but has a higher ceiling imo.

There are the "HAVES" AND "HAVE NOTS". The gap is widening until there is some regulation by the NCAA or other governing entity.

Its a good thing those rich nerds at places like Stanford haven't decided to go NIL crazy.

Fever,

Tiger Woods & The Google Guys went to Stanford -
  1. No.#1 Golfer in the World -Tiger Woods
  2. India’s Successful Business Tycoon – Mukesh Ambani
  3. CEO of Google – Sundar Pichai
  4. Starring in Legally Blonde – Reese Witherspoon
  5. Co-Founder of Google – Larry Page
Rules for 1st & ten don't allow me to state what sort of contributions Reese Witherspoon could make; the rest of them would just have to use McDonalds' bags filled with the green stuff -

Wait, I forgot NIL makes it all nice & legal

Sad could probably get away with it, but I can't

Reese is a bit long in the tooth for recruits. She might sway a few coaching candidates, though.

Kirby was able to take recruiting to the next level because all his rivals have been down and they made the commitment to go after the level of recruiting that alabama has. It’s not like they’ve sucked for the past 40 years. They just happened to hit the right circumstances where they had things fall into place that were out of their control but they all went in their favor. But it’s not like they’ve been struggling. They took advantage of the fact that UF and Tennessee have been down. It happens, and I’m not saying they will start to suck, but the hiring of Napier definitely made it harder for them. We have everything they have, and probably a bit more upside. So I’m not sure they were a sleeping giant. They were about where they would be all things being equal.

But you’re definitely right about the texas schools. I’d be shocked if Texas didn’t step up and go head to head with aTm. I don’t see longhorn fans being okay with aTm being top dog in the state.

And as I have said numerous times the true sleeping giant at USC has been woken up
