What so few know
(younger gen) or want to remember
(older gen) about the core reason that the scUM thugs were dropped from the UF schedule is this.
Why was that annual game moved from a home & home to Orlando and Tampa before finally being dumped? It was because of the trashed property and cars on game days. It got so bad when going to the old run-down Orange Bowl that most Gator fans either went on bus trips, or they rented a car and then bought the extra insurance....
The first attempt to solve the problem was to move the games to neutral sites (Tampa and Orlando). That worked somewhat, but then the violence switched from property vandalism to fights that happened post game initially, and then both per game and post game eventually.
If I remember correctly, there were something like 67 arrests and then the next year 83 arrests for violence (fights) when the game was held in Tampa, and it had been escalating from year to year.
(30+ years ago so my arrest numbers might not be exact, but they are fairly close and the exact number is not the important part anyway) Dumping the scUM had very little if anything to do with the on the field outcomes. It had everything to do with dumping the game before anyone got killed, which was where it was heading. The mutual hatred had built up to the point that dumping that game from the schedule is all that made any sense. At the time, they thought that dropping the game for a few years would settle things down enough to restart it at some future point but games since then have proven that the game should remain off UF's schedule. An occasional bowl game is manageable, but not putting them back on a regular year to year schedule.
~ I remember reading an article in the old Sunday Tampa Tribune about the growing number of fights and arrests associated with the game.
Their fans (reFSUcks & scUM) want to call UF chickens for dumping that scUM thug game, in a weak attempt to draw attention away from the rather obvious FACT that both of those chicken-chits refused to play a season long SEC schedule
(that would have included a game vs UF) instead of a pack of cupcakes that would virtually guarantee them at least 10 wins with few injuries and a much better chance to play for a mNC. In a rare moment of honesty,
Bowdown even admitted that was his reason.
And because of that build in advantage for both of them, I'd be just fine with also dumping the tallycrappy criminoles too. Letting the thugs and the crims play for a state of Florida Championship Ring every year would be just fine with me, while the Gators continue to play for an SEC-C Ring....
