"No one today is arguing that the U.S. can child-proof the world to make America safe. The overly ambitious efforts of the George W. Bush era clearly created as many problems as they solved.

But, walking away from problems doesn’t work well either – as the Obama team more than amply demonstrated. They ended the war in Iraq. And, for that, we got a war with the caliphate. They ended the war in Afghanistan. For that, we got the resurgence of the Taliban. The reset with Russia produced a war in Ukraine. Tried to buy Iran off, and that didn’t work. And they stood by as China moved to make the South China Sea its own and North Korea’s Kim built out his nuclear arsenal."

obama was weak and he wanted America to be weakened. The left as a whole does.

Weakness leads to war and aggression. This is what I was trying to get through to the agentvolunteer. If you truly hate war, then you want precisely what Trump is doing.

NK said they were sitting on the nuclear button and ready to push it and nuke the US. What does Trump do? Says he has a BIGGER button "and mine works".

Suddenly talk of nukes being fired disappeared.

obama would have given NK $500B in aid by now and we would be dealing with "is NK about to nuke us?" stories every single day.

But Trump projected strength, and it ended. Now we are on the verge of removing the nuke threat completely from NK.

Peace through strength. Living on your knees is really a slow death. Pacifists have never understood this.

Fake news...that's always the answer the warmongers give when confronted with the ones who prefer a more isolationist stance...the warmongers always concoct fake news, fake reasons, fake conspiracy theories about why we're always needing to spread democracy, setting up fake prop-up regimes (think Iran)...and then can't seem to own up to their many failures...loss of lives...the costs involved.

Perhaps someone will start a thread about "What those who are constantly pro-war and pro-regime change" are really talking about.

Oh and you can prefer a more isolationist stance, and also understand that the US defending itself leads to less war and violence, not more.

Well...some of us can.

You will remember in our recent conversation on this subject...you made reference to how rational you were being...remember?

What you didn't say was this: "As long as you agree with me (Ghost)...you're smart and rational (like me)...when you disagree...you're isolationist and too emotional."

"Well...some of us can."

Perhaps some of you can't.

You said yourself that you prefer a more isolationist stance.

Still too emotional to read clearly, I see. Tsk tsk.

Being the world's policeman never leads to less war.
It's that simple.
And quite the rational way to think.

What a eat up with the dumbass comment!

Folks will remember our weakness led to war and our aggression and loss of 58k(?) lives in Vietnam.

Just like our weakness led to war and aggression in Syria and lots of territory through out the Middle East...not to mention the deaths, injuries, and costs.

And our weakness leading to aggression gave rise to the ongoing de dollarization of Uncle Sams greenback with increasing numbers of countries...not to mention giving birth to the One Road One Belt.

Perhaps that's one side of the coin Ghost forgot about in his rational mind: aggression leads to war/moar war and further aggression.

This is a GREAT example of an idiot!

Many accuse the USA of walking away from trouble/conflict/wars/coups/installing puppet regimes...but they never can answer why the USA had to meddle in the affairs of other countries to begin with.

Perhaps not starting the problem(s) to begin with would be a better beginning point.

That might be too rational for many to digest.

A better idea would be make Israel have more skin in the game.

No, actually, most people here agree with you on these points and have said so.

You're just too emotional to see it.
