Welp, guess winning the SECT really IS that important…

…. And there’s already three thread titles on Rupp Rafters about Musselman, one of which advocates dumping Cal and hiring Muss.

Congrats to Arky by the way.

UK basically has to make Cal retire because of his contract (which, to be fair, I think he wouldn't mind at this point).

But it'll be interesting to see who Kentucky goes after this year or next year.

Glad Arky sent the Zags packing. Sorry Andrew.
Nembhard had a bad game tonight, but he steadily improved under Mark Few and became a very solid player for the Zags. Arkansas's defense was very disruptive tonight and they seemed to get all the 50/50 balls.

I just can't see Kentucky coughing up over $80 million to get rid of Calipari. UK fans are stuck with him for ay least 4 more seasons. I'm sure UK will bounce back from their loss in the tourney.

They play in a non power conference in which they dominate. Few has done a great job but he can’t win the big one. At some point it in the tourney you have to beat 3-4 good teams in a row and they aren’t used to having to do that in a season. Another problem with Mark Few teams is IMO they aren’t typically athletic enough. I’m actually surprised he has stayed there as long as he has and not gone to a power conference.

Well, if his contract was up in 2024, I could understand a 1 year contract. Not because of winning the SECT, but to see if he can continue to improve the program. However,.....giving him a 1 year extension when his contract ends in 2026.....idk, it feels like its patting a kid on the head and giving him a lollipop for not moving around too much in a barber's chair when he got a haircut.

It seems there's a simple answer as to why he hasn't left. Few loves Gonzaga, he loves Spokane and the quiet lifestyle he has there. More important things in life to him than big bucks and the power and prestige of coaching at a P5 school. I admire that.

He’s a serious whinner. He apparently hasn’t learned anything about personal accountability out West…
How did you come to the conclusion that Nembhard is a whiner? (I'm assuming you meant whiner and not winner, since you wrote whinner.) :) His coach raves about him and called him the "captain of their ship." Just recently was named one of the 5 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award as the best point guard in the country. He played the most minutes of anybody on Gonzaga's team, hardly coming out of games. Shot 45.2% from the floor, 38.3% shooting 3's, 87.3% from the free throw line, nearly 12 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, 184 assists to only 62 turnovers with 51 steals. He put up similar numbers last year as well and is much improved from his play under Mike White. Seems like a great kid who is liked and appreciated by his coaches and teammates. He's not a superstar, but he's a valuable starter on a team that played for the national title last year and made it to the Sweet 16 this year. The Gators certainly would have been better with him than they have been without him, IMO. I like the kid, always have, and wish him nothing but the best.

Rick Barnes is Mike White with lots more upside to him. Winning the SEC BB Tourney would warrant an extension to any hoops coach outside of UK. Especially if they have ZERO NCs like Tennessee, South Carolina, LSU, Mizzou, and the like. Kudos to the Hogs for sending the Zags packing. I say either Villanova wins or the NCAA sends Coach K off into the sunset with a NC. Meanwhile, I sure hope this Todd Golden guy works out for us.

Tennessee is like Bama and Georgia....no real hoops success. I think the Vols have made 1 elite 8 in their entire program history. If we were them I would extend too!!
I never get tired of posting this when the opportunity presents itself...

Yes Dominque Wilkins was the “Human Highlight Real”. He went to UGA

So who was the human highlight reel at Tinercee?
Gotta go back to Ernie Grunfeld (sp?) and Bernard King - the “Ernie and Bernie Show”. That was a little before my time.

When I was in HS, they had Dale Ellis, who had a solid NBA career.

They had a Kentucky kid (Chris Lofton) about 10-12+ years ago that could really light it up from outside.

Thought their FF was in 1980 but too lazy to look it up.
I do remember it was in 83 as they lost to Jim Valvano and the eventual champs NC State in the semifinal.
Phi Slamma Jamma was also in the Final Four along with Louisville.
I also happen to be too lazy to look up, much less remember, who was in the Final Four in 1980.
