Well Jacksonville just shot itself in the foot

You can read all about DeSantis’s assault on local home rule power in this article…

Some bills passed, some didn’t…not gonna go through them all , but you’re smart enough to “connect the dots.”

Not going to read a story from a lib rag, son. I asked YOU to back up what you said. I did so FULL WELL knowing you could not do so...and like Trump...I am ALWAYS right. YOU CANNOT back up your lil BS.

Then why did Republicans and independents vote for her?
Davis is not a good campaigner while Deegan has a very high public profile and wasn’t shy about bringing up her family name either - her Uncle the late Tommy Hazouri was a popular and very centrist Democrat.
Both parties are reminding people that Jax politics is not really a true reflection of the state as a whole.

Wow. I did not know she is a Hazouri. I used to know a niece of Tommy Hazouri. Her name was Carolyn. She didn't talk much about her uncle. Have not seen or talked to her in 30 years. Small world. Suffice it to say based on that, Donna damned sure isn't a blonde. 😂

I listened to their town hall forum on the radio before the election. Not impressed. You won't like this, but I pegged him right away as a RINO. ;) Soft spoken, lightweight candidates don't win elections. Rutherford destroyed Deegan in their debate.
He’s a businessman. Who’s voted conservative while on City Council and in the Legislature.
Not a RINO...careful you sound like good ol Capt Ron, son. 🙄

Davis was very well known! Former City Council President and President of the Chamber of Commerce as well as serving in the Legislature.
But FAR less well known in the general community than Deegan, right?

As a side note, Jacksonville is slowly decaying into an Atlanta. I had to go to Fleming Island in Clay County a couple of weeks ago, so I took the long scenic route down SR210 to Green Cove. The entire county is fleeing to St Johns County to the south, I could not believe how many homes are now in the northern part of St Johns County in a span of 10 years! Jacksonville is decaying and becoming the hood, and it's been happening now for at least 20 years. Sad, but I'm outta there sooner than later.

Interesting information, pretty impressive to win a race because the other party voters broke party lines. That is also says alot about Davis

I still find it amusing that the DeSantis supporters are ignoring that his endorsement played no role. How many times have they told us that we need to JUST MOVE ON from Trump, and embrace the young and vibrant DeSantis?

How's that working out?

Its still in Alabama.
Green Bay is in Wisconsin .....

Baldwin County Alabama is actually just as nice and has beaches, good schools and nice places to live. Fairhope is beautiful.

Fairhope is a great place to live if you have money. Agree, it's very nice.

Huntsville (area) is a great place to make that money. My kids are 19, 17 and 15 and that's why we've considered it tbh.

We love where we are now but the kids will no doubt move away from us to start their lives. In the Huntsville area, they could find all of that and only be an hour or so away.

Huntsville is nice. Not moving there or anywhere else in Alabama.

That's fine...probably more based on the stereotype but that's OK too.

It's similar to people making fun of Florida because of "Florida man" but people are free to do that as well.

I've lived in both places (longer in Florida) and they both have their pros and cons.

I would bet that less than 10% of the voters knew the Davis history whereas probably 95% where aware of who Deegan was. Too many people voted for the name.

Not really. I'm a long time Duval resident. Although the political base has shifted to more blue, I still say that Deegan's' election was mainly in name recognition.

I've spent enough time in Alabama over the years not to want to stay for more than a week.

And apropos of nothing at all, stereotypes exist for a reason.

That depends on what is important to you and what you're looking for.

True...and then they're exaggerated for entertainment purposes.

I enjoyed Florida and the sunsets and beaches. I was young so the nightlife was fun as well. OTOH, it's very transient and I found that people who screwed up their lives in say...Michigan, New York or Massachusetts for example, and they had to flee for one reason or another, those people tend to congregate in Florida, Texas or California. So people tended to be either very nice or very not nice.

In Alabama it's slower paced but it's also very beautiful with a variety of geography (plains, beaches, mountains and forests) and it's easier, for me at least, to know my neighbors. OTOH there are some bass-ackwards country folk and we lack the population densities required for well funded schools, hospitals and the like.

Pick your poison imho.

Chinese nationals own 1.8 million acres of Alabama farmland, 4th highest in the Nation.

Your education and healthcare are dismal.

That and Bama and Auburn fans. 😎

I'd give you a like for this, but just can't do it. Several of us on this board know how much of a witch that woman is, wokeness issues aside. I don't think Duval's voter base has shifted so much as long time residents have fled the chicken coup while outsiders have moved in. This is a big problem when blue states drive people out with their bullshit politics and unbearable taxes and living conditions. They forget quite quickly why they left in the first place. As Sunny would say, the slow aren't very quick on the uptake.

Another issue is that a couple of our past GOP mayors are just grifters in it for fame or money. Gate Petroleum bought one soy boy a mayor's election. Curry wasn't a hell of a lot better than Alvin Brown. I did not dislike Brown, but he was owned by the DRats. Complete and utter apathy in Duval County allowed Hillary Lite to barely squeeze out an election win. I am so glad I don't have to read the Fla Times Onion and I rarely if ever watch the horrible local TV news. Can't wait to sell and GTFO of Duval. It was fun when I was young but now, FTS.
