Well Jacksonville just shot itself in the foot

Just looked. 216,000 total votes. A metropolitan area of nearly 1,000,000 people. Wow. I somewhat blame the apathy right at the feet of Lenny Curry, outgoing mayor. He wasn't a Democrat, but he served like a chameleon as one. Apathy got that bitch in office no doubt. 9,000 votes difference in a city of one million. Wow. I can't wait to GTFO of there. I hope the city commissioners whip her like the flea bitten dog she is.

As a side note, Jacksonville is slowly decaying into an Atlanta. I had to go to Fleming Island in Clay County a couple of weeks ago, so I took the long scenic route down SR210 to Green Cove. The entire county is fleeing to St Johns County to the south, I could not believe how many homes are now in the northern part of St Johns County in a span of 10 years! Jacksonville is decaying and becoming the hood, and it's been happening now for at least 20 years. Sad, but I'm outta there sooner than later.

And Nassau. Nocatee is blowing up.

Won't matter. DeSantis put things in place that limit local government. You guys will remain red overall.
This is SO true. Probably the most honest and accurate comment posted in the history of this Board.

DeSantis and his “conservative” minions and henchmen in the Florida Legislature have absolutely obliterated home rule power in the State of Florida during his tenure as Governor…it will take generations to return local control where it belongs…

Which is…if we are being objective…the most-anti traditional conservative concept that exists…

It says a lot about the world we live in today…

Big government conservatives and autocrats who want to control society for their interests and agendas without any concern for the will of local citizens in their own communities…

And that’s where we are…

What flipped Jacksonville blue? Bad candidate? Good Democrat candidate?etc?
Nothing flipped. Absolute apathy. Last R mayor sucked. D Mayor before him sucked. The winner was a former TV anchor who got her ass spanked running for Congress in the House. The opposition in this election was weak AF too. Reminds me of the Seinfeld character in another movie where he says, "nobody cares". Jacksonhell is going the way of Atlanta and going quick. The exodus is just like California.

I'm sure Andrew Gillum would have been a great governor and tanning bed Grist is a cartified loser.

The Bay Area ain’t jax or Saint Johns no offense I do enjoy king and bear but for 6 months only the rest of the year Florida is awful

WGV is for those who can't compete, lackey commercial goat ranches. Try upping your game. We know why you fled Carmel. 😂

Republican voters outnumbered Democratic ones by about 3.5 percentage points on Tuesday — meaning that Ms. Deegan won independents and crossover Republican votes.

DeSantis did not get out the vote, lukewarm and late support.

Mayor roles are not terribly important (in my view) and, if given a choice, I would rather have a Democrat at the state/local level than a national/federal one.

DeSantis isn’t responsible for getting out the vote. And he endorsed Davis but had not campaigned for him.
If the Democrat was at least a centrist on a local level it might be okay but Deegan is a very naive little puppet who read her lines very well - fed to her by the DNC.
When Stacey Abrams donates to your campaign you are no centrist.

That wench will be responsible for raising property taxes and pissing away money in that sewer commonly known as downtown. You can put lipstick on a pig, but at the end of the day it's still just a swine.

Please expound on this. Lets see if you know ANYTHING what you are talking about. My bet right now is you will post something that is 100% NOT TRUE. Have at it, son.

I asked him in another thread to expound on what DeSantis has done that has terrified @sadgator so.

Must be horrific, cause just 48 hours ago we learned that his gal hillary was selling influence illegally to THREE foreign countries, and that didn't even register with him. So Ronnie must have done something super duper bad.

What did he do? Sign a bill saying Floridians couldn't be jailed without cause? That they could own a firearm? That they couldn't be killed just cause the left doesn't like what they tweet? Sad????

The left is FULL of little sissies that FEAR Trump and DeSantis. Of course, when you put your best up...and he is early 80's, brain dead, and a failure in EVERYTHING he has ever touched...you can see WHY they fear us. The resort to being habitual liars.

Up until 1990, the left had a total monopoly on the media. They could say whatever they wanted, with no challenge whatsoever.

Then Rush Limbaugh came around. Everything changed overnight.

The left has been trying to silence opposing viewpoints ever since. The louder you speak the truth, the more hellfire the left will rain down on you for doing so.

If @sadgator really believed in the ideals of his party, he would have left it a long time ago. The democratic party in 2023 resembles the nazi party of 1933.

The Jacksonville Times Union was so woke they went broke in one of the largest metro areas in Florida. Now they are a cottage business operating out of another town.😂

You can read all about DeSantis’s assault on local home rule power in this article…
No idea what that means, but I do know a liberal rag isn't going to tell me the truth about it.

Explain it to me like I am one of bsc's socks. Why is it that THIS outrages you, but hillary selling influence illegally to THREE of our enemies doesn't bother you?

Complete and utter apathy allowed this Trojan Horse into the mayors seat. (Deegan). I was never a fan of Curry, the 2nd election I held my nose and voted for him because the opposition is exactly like what just got elected. Daniels was not a strong candidate, he sounds like a kid on the radio. If DeSantis hadn't been globe trotting the USA on the campaign trail, we could have avoided this.

Was Jacksonville the largest city in the US with a Rep Mayor before this? I think I heard someone saying that was the case.

Largest city (in square miles) for sure. A couple of decades ago the city annexed the entire county so that everything in Duval is technically Jacksonville, even the Beaches. As you've seen in the thread, the demographics are rapidly changing. I go to the grocery store (or where ever) and there are foreigners thick as thieves, and that's in the lily white suburbs. St Johns County to the immediate south is the new and coming suburbs running away from urban decay.

I'm blaming it on both DeSantis and a weak GOP candidate. To be honest, I don't care whether a candidate has a D or R in front of their name in a mayor's race, if they are competent. The problem is the Democrats haven't had a competent candidate in 40 years. It's not 1960 anymore.
At least Jacksonville is consistent, they went from one DD to another DD.
