Welcome to Week 0!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry man, but that is 20-20 hindsight.

No it's not. We used to go crazy here with Franks mess and the year prior he finally did bench him for all that stuff but Trask hurt his foot I think and then he foolishly went with Franks again in 2019. Mullen had a history of that nonsense. Prescott and Smith weren't allowed to take over as the starter until the starter in front of them got injured in a game and then the QB play was a lot better just like with Trask. He let that one young guy start at Miss State but usually he went with experience at the beginning of the season even if the QB wasn't cutting it.

Agree. Mullen also didn't properly use his running backs. He way underutilized Dameon Pierce and most people were commenting on it every week last year. He was a great play caller under Meyer and did solid things at Miss. St., but he wasn't a top tier head coach and it wasn't just because of Todd Grantham's deficiencies on defense. At least that's my humble opinion.

Yep I gave him the benefit of the doubt in 2020 for adapting with Trask in there which went against his preferred style but in reality that was just a blip on our trajectory with him especially with the lazy recruiting. As far as Pierce it was nuts he kept doing that especially when he had gotten on a roll punishing the defense. It was like he was more worried about getting others playing time. Pierce goes into the NFL with less wear and tear which is good for him I guess.

Yep. He was a great offensive coach. He was almost as good as Spurrier at scheming guys open. But his stubbornness cost him. He stuck with players and coaches long after it was obvious they were hurting the team. Also, he clearly did not want to put in the work necessary to run a big-time college program. He'd be a good NFL OC, I think.

2022 Football Scheme & Philosophy

Behind the 2021 OL, the team ran for over 200 Yds/Gm and only gave up 14 sacks.
As to the 2022 OL, RG Torrence and RT Tarquin are a quantum leap up-grade, with the very good left side ( LT Gouraige, LG White or Braun, and OC Eguakun) starters returning. Offsided RT Delance being gone is a blessing, while replacing Reese with Torrence is a miracle in the making....

lol the guy is just talking nonsense. Bowman and probably Lingard just haven't lived up to their ratings at multiple teams. It has nothing to do with the coach or optics.

We now know that Trask was a star waiting for a chance.

Then we knew he was a kid who couldn't run, trying to fit into a running QB scheme, that hadn't played any significant minutes since his sophomore year in high school.

To say that Mullen made a mistake sticking with a kid who, while flawed, had significant playing experience and was riding a multi game winning streak, including a demolishing of Michigan in a NY6 bowl game, is 20-20 hindsight. You can say it because you know how it turned out.

If Mullen had gone to Trask after beating Miami, and the kid had gone 2-14 with 3 int's before being pulled, you would have said that was the stupid mistake. Point is, we didn't know then what we know now.

So yes, it IS 20-20 hindsight. Say what you will, it's still true.

I think a walk on could have played better than Franks did in some of those games with the defense we had just by not turning the ball over.

This may be right. I don’t remember clamoring for Trask to start. Mullen definitely screwed up pulling Trask for Jones’ series in the LSU game. Trask was on fire, and we had no chance at stopping Burrow, and those series put the game out of reach. Mullen’s bigger mistake by far was sticking with Grantham when it was clear to everyone he was not a competitive SEC coach. But that’s what happens with these coaches. The fans want something and the mindset becomes “I’ll show you I know more about football than you” instead of just making the obvious correct decision for the team. But Mullen’s disregard of recruiting would have been the end of him regardless.

Not sure where you stood on that but it was that Missouri game in 2018 when many of the fans that were hoping he would turn it around said they had seen enough. I think I was saying go ahead and try Jones earlier that season despite him being a freshman.

The youth of Florida football may not be 100 percent ready for the spotlight the gridiron generates, especially in the SEC. Still, the staff appears confident that a handful of players can progress with in-game reps.

The Coaches FNG's that can play list:
DE Tyreak Sapp 6-3 263 rsFr - Ft. Lauderdale, FL
OT Austin Barber 6-6 312 rsFr - Jacksonville, FL
RB Trevor Etienne 5.9 217 Fr - Jennings, LA
WR Caleb Douglas 6-3 191 Fr - Missouri City, TX
LB Shemar James 6-1 230 Fr - Mobile, AL

The iG's additions to the FNG's that can play, if called on list:
QBdt Max Brown 6-2 200 Fr - Tulsa, OK
TE Arlis Boardingham 6-3 235 Fr - Van Nuys, CA
CB Devin Moore 6-3 198 Fr - Naples, FL
S Kamari Wilson 6-0 209 Fr - Ft. Pierce, FL
OLB/DE Andrew Savailnaea 6-3 261 Fr - Graham, Wash
OLB/DE Jack Pyburn 6-3 263 Fr - Jacksonville, FL
DT Chris McClellan 6-3 305 Fr - N.Tulsa, OK
K Trey Smack 6-1 200 Fr - Severna Park, MD

"So I think that, development in football, sometimes you've got to go out there and learn," Billy said. "You know, you think you understand what it's going to be like out there to play in a game setting, but I think that's one of the exciting things to me about this team, is we got a lot of players that have minimal (college) experience that I think are going to grow as the season goes."

Yeah I was definitely frustrated with him. The similarities with Driskel were amazing. Great athletes who just for whatever reason could never move the offense.

“Every game obviously is important, but when you have a chance to go down to SEC country, play a storied program like Florida … it’s important for the Pac-12 to make noise on the national scene whenever we get opportunities like that,” Whittingham said.We have to make the most of it.”

So Utah will come in wanting to push UF around and show that they are worthy.

The Gator's better come out of the gate with a chip on their shoulders and pissed off. This game needs to be down and dirty from the get-go, with the winner wanting it more than the losers. "It's not the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog."

Nebraska/Northwestern is a really good game. Both QB's look great. Last year Nebraska ran for over 400 yards against NW, but this year are struggling. Interesting 2nd half coming up.

The game is bogging down now.

Btw, when they showed the Fumblerooskie and talked about wearing neck-rolls....what in the world happened to those? I know they basically got replaced by those more sleek, plastic like neck braces but I feel like I haven't even seen those in 10 years.

Have athletes necks evolved?

Frost better hope they come back or he will be under stress this whole season. They don't recruit that good but I think its usually better than most of the Big 10 teams until this past class. Maybe just OSU, Michigan and Penn State are clearly better in that every season.

Is Vandy improved or is this Hawaii team really that bad. Hawaii is usually a tough road game.
Vandy was a 9.5 pt favorite. So certainly a bit of a surprising score. They have a mobile QB that runs around all over the place and makes plays with his feet, etc. Once they get into SEC play not sure that is going to work as well without a supporting cast

Nebraska’s Defense sucked so bad in the last quarter and a half of that game…it was insane…even the Irish folks knew Northwestern was gonna run the ball almost every down and Nebraska still couldn’t stop it. Remember when Nebraska used to call themselves blackshirts and were tough???…that is like a lifetime ago….

Yep losing all these close games where you had a lead has to fall on the coach. I think they said Nebraska broke the all time record for consecutive losses in games decided by 7 pts or less or something like that. If we would have hired Frost I am sure he would have been gone by now. He isn't top coaching material at a big program.

Strange thing about Nebraska is that they also have no identity whatsoever on offense. For a guy who played there and is known for offense, you’d think Frost would know how to fix that.

sadgator is beginning to think that Nebraska will never be good again in his lifetime. That is amazing considering what they were in the mid-90’s. They should have stayed in the Big 12. The B1G has been disastrous for them…kinda like Miami joining the ACC.

Game Changers / Speical Teams

P Crawshaw - 44.1 Ave.

LS Marco Ortiz 6-4 236 rsJr
- LS/TE Rocco Underwood 6-3 220 rsFr

K - Adam Mihalek 6-2 193 rsFr WO (O&B 48 & 52 Yd FG's)
K - Trey Smack 6-1 200 Fr - Ranked a 5-star kicker & punter by Kohl’s Kicking Camp
Kickoffs need distance and enough accuracy/consistency to keep it in bounds.
FG's needs accuracy, and enough distance to get it there.
X-Pts needs quickness/accuracy/consistency.
So it's possible that they split the kickers duties?

Which, either, neither??? Questions remain:
K-R - Henderson 6-3 195 So or Etienne 5-9 217 Fr
~ Henderson was a State Champ in both the 400M and 400M relays.
P-R - Etienne 5-9 217 Fr or Henderson 6-3 195 So

I really thought Mullen would kill it at UF. From the perspective of having Miss State as our permanent cross-divisional opponent, he did a really good job at State, and figured he would elevate the Gators to challenge UGA for the East division supremacy. Obviously it didn’t turn out that way.

They would kill to have Bo Pelini back to at least win 8-9 games a year. Hell, even Frank Solich coached them to consistent winning seasons and they fired him too.

I wouldn't have apologized.

From Wikipedia:

Following a home game loss to UCLA on September 14, 2013, and shortly after responding to criticism from former Nebraska football player Tommie Frazier about the loss,[27] a two-year-old audio tape with a profane tirade by Pelini[28] was anonymously leaked to Deadspin.[29] The recording was made following Nebraska's come-from-behind win against Ohio State in 2011, when it was reported that some students left when Nebraska was down 27–6 early in the 3rd quarter. The Huskers won 34–27. According to Deadspin, among the statements made on the audio recording, Pelini said:

We all see how it went since.
Our crowd. What a bunch of ****ing fair-weather ****ing—they can all kiss my ass out the ****ing door. 'Cause the day is ****ing coming now. We'll see what they can do when I'm ****ing gone. I'm so ****ing pissed off.[29]
Shortly after the tape was released, Pelini apologized:

I take full responsibility for these comments. They were spoken in a private room following the Ohio State game. I was venting following a series of emotional events which led to this moment. That being said, these comments are in no way indicative of my true feelings. I love it here in Nebraska and feel fortunate to be associated with such a great University and fan base. I again apologize to anyone whom I have offended.
