UF Soccer & Volleyball

#3 UF Volleyball won a tough 5-set match tonight against Sacramento State to improve to 5-0. SEC+ carried this match and it was an exciting one to watch, as the Gators were led by Ocala's own AC Fitzpatrick and super freshman Kennedy Martin, along with the steady setting and serving from sophomore Alexis Stuckey. They host Clemson Friday at 7 pm on the SEC Network, then Saturday at 3 pm against Winthrop with no streaming.
After a tough few matches due for a bit of a let down. Glad they got the W

UF soccer lost their first match of the season, losing Sunday afternoon 1-0 at #5 FSU. The Seminoles dominated possession, but the Gator defense held them to a scoreless tie for 75 minutes before finally giving up a goal. Florida just couldn't get anything going against FSU, as they only had 3 shots on the day and no shots on goal. The Noles had 11 shots on the day, 3 shots on goal and had 11 corner kicks to Florida's 2. Florida drops to 4-1-2 on the year, as they open SEC play Friday night at 7 pm as they host Missouri (also 4-1-2) on SEC+.

UF volleyball played their sloppiest match of the season and every single challenge was ruled in FSU's favor. In spite of the home cooking and Gator errors, Mary Wise's #3 team won in 5 sets at FSU to run their record to 8-0. The scores were 18-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17 and 16-14, about as tight as it can get. FSU hit .303 to Florida's .276, but the Gators had 68 kills to their 57 and 10 blocks to their 6. The Gators had 15 service errors and 25 attack errors, giving FSU too many unearned points. But led by freshman Kennedy Martin's 25 kills and senior A.C. Fitzpatrick's 22 kills and 50 assists from sophomore Alexis Stuckey, the Gators found a way to win when not playing their best.
Florida needs to clean it up and play much better Sunday if they expect to beat #1 Wisconsin, but it's always great to beat FSU in any sport on any occasion. Gooooo Gators!!

Get the W and get ready for Sunday. I know it's a rivalry game, but could be a case of looking ahead?

Any chance we can win a conference game? Would be nice to get 1
It's going to be tough. Georgia, Auburn and LSU are games that we have a decent chance to win, but coming off a winless SEC last year one would hope we can find a way to win at least a couple of conference games.

#3 UF Volleyball dropped a heartbreaking 5 set match to #1 Wisconsin Sunday afternoon on ESPN with a record 10,323 in the O'Dome. #5 Stanford had beaten #2 Louisville earlier today in Louisville, meaning that if the Gators could have won they would have moved up to #1. And the match started out great, with Florida dominating the first set 25-15. But midway through the 2nd set, the All American setter (like the QB in football), sophomore Alexis Stuckey went down with a right leg injury and had to be helped into the locker room. She returned later in a boot and on crutches. Without her pinpoint passing, steady serving and deceptive blocking and shot-making, the Gator team wasn't nearly as sharp and efficient the rest of the match. They hung on to win the 2nd set 25-22, then lost the 3rd set 21-25 and the 4th set 22-25. Mary Wise for the most part went with Flagler College Grad Transfer Kennedy Muff (the only other setter on the roster), but she experimented at times player without a designated setter to try to find more defense at the net to combat a huge Wisconsin frontline. But in the end the Badgers prevailed in the 5th set 13-15 to take the match and remain at #1.
With Stuckey, Florida was showing promise to be a truly great team. Without her, we will be very good still - but the setter sets the tone for the team and Stuckey is probably the best the Gators have ever had at that position. At 8-1, we open SEC play Friday at 7:30 pm on SEC+ at #24 Auburn.

Damn. I hope her injury isn't serious. Get healthy young lady.

Alexis Stuckey lost for the season. It's a shame, because with her this team had a real chance to be truly great.

Gator soccer ties Kentucky today 1-1. Their record is now 4-3-3, 0-2-1. Kentucky is 6-0-4, 0-0-3. We have LSU next. They host Mississippi State tonight and going into that game are 6-3-1, 1-1-0.

What was our conference record last year?

UF soccer lost 1-0 at home to Mississippi State Friday night. Totally a defensive battle in which the Gators only had 3 shots all night and only 1 shot on goal and 3 corner kicks. Gators drop to 5-4-3, 1-3-1 in the SEC. Next up is Sunday afternoon at 2 pm at Georgia, who is 6-3-3, 2-2-1 in the SEC.

UF volleyball played their worst game of the season and lost at home to Auburn 0-3. They played terrible serve defense, couldn't block at the net and gave up way too many free balls in getting beat handily by a team they beat 3-2 2 weeks ago.

UF Volleyball improved to 12-3, 4-2 by beating Alabama (0-5, 10-6) in straight sets Sunday afternoon with scores of 25-22, 29-27 & 25-19. The Gators still have too many service errors and their passing was still sloppy at times, but they just had more talent than Alabama, getting 10 blocks to 1, 8 aces to 1 and having only 6 attack errors to their 17. They have a tough stretch of games upcoming, with 3 straight road games at Miss. St. Texas A&M & Ole Miss and then hosting the top 3 teams in the SEC right now in Arkansas, Tennessee & Kentucky.

Meanwhile, Gator soccer played at Georgia and tied them at 0-0. Georgia is now 6-3-4, 2-2-2, while Florida sits at 5-5-4, 1-4-2. The Gators only had 2 shots on the match, both on goal, while Georgia had 11 shots, with 4 on goal. Florida's defense remains very good, but they just can't generate much offense. Still they are an improved team over last year, a definite rebuilding work in progress.

Gators soccer is light years ahead of last season and way ahead of schedule as far as rebuilding.

The Gator soccer team is so much better than last year, has improved as this season has progressed and even though they're nowhere near being back to challenging for a championship, I think the new coach has us on the right track.

An amazing turnaround for sure.

Yes they have!

UF soccer completed their season Thursday night by tying ranked South Carolina, who finished 2nd in the SEC, 0-0. Their record last year was 2-14-1, 0-9-1 in the SEC. This year the team went 6-5-6, 2-4-4. They did not finish in the Top 10 in conference play, so don't qualify for the SEC tournament. But the team showed great improvement over last season. With a solid recruiting class coming in and another year with the returning players adapting to the new coach and the system they're running, the goal next year should jump up to at least the middle of the SEC pack and maybe even qualify for the NCAA tournament.

That is amazing improvement. You mentioned recruiting, how does the incoming class look?
