UF MBK: Senior CLASS Award Names Duruji Among Candidates
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida men's basketball forward Anthony Duruji has been named as a candidate for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Duruji graduated with a degree in education sciences in 2021 and is now pursuing his Master's degree in entrepreneurship. He has earned SEC Academic Honor Roll status both seasons at Florida and was a 2021 nominee for SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Germantown, Md., native is a two-time honoree on the SEC Good Works Team for his volunteer and extracurricular contributions at UF and in the Gainesville community.
On the court, Duruji has started 25 games in 33 appearances over the past two seasons at Florida, including all eight games this season. He has averaged 9.6 points and 4.5 rebounds so far in 2021-22 with three double-figure scoring games, including a 15-point outing in the win vs. Florida State.
A total of 60 candidates, 30 men and 30 women, were announced on Tuesday. The men's and women's candidates will be narrowed to two fields of ten finalists later in the season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will then select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men's Final Four and NCAA Women's Final Four this spring.
