For the 1st time in 19 years, the #3 Gators gymnastics team failed to qualify for the NCAA championships, losing in the regional finals in Corvalis, OR to #5 Denver and #15 Oregon State. Florida had their lowest score of the year with only 196.700 points. #12 Boise St., #18 Washington, #24 Southern Utah & #25 Stanford, along with unranked Iowa were also in their regional. They had scored 197.500 in last nights qualifying match, which was under their season average of 197.605. But UF, Oregon State, Boise State and Denver made it to tonight's finals, with the Top 2 scores making it to the NCAA championships. Florida finished 3rd, with Denver scoring 197.375 and Oregon St. getting 196.900 and passing Florida with excellent scores on their floor exercises to close out the match. The Gators messed up badly tonight on the beam and it cost them a chance to go after a national title. They had been ranked between #2 and #4 all year and had been very consistent, but just didn't execute tonight when it mattered most.
