Gator's are ranked #108 out of 131 teams in total defense as of this morning. Only Arkansas (#112) and Vanderbilt (#121) are worse in the SEC. We are tied with Buffalo at #113 in rushing defense, worst in the SEC, and #69 in passing defense. We are #127 in 3rd down conversion defense, giving up 1st downs 50% of the time on 3rd down. We are #27 in total offense, 5th in the SEC, behind #1 Tennessee, #4 Georgia, #5 Alabama and #25 Ole Miss. We are #57 in passing offense and #22 in rushing offense. We are 53rd in 3rd down conversions, picking them up 42% of the time. The Gators are #92 in kickoff return defense and #110 in kickoff return offense, averaging only 16.85 yards per return attempted. We are #91 in punt return defense and #109 in punt return offense, averaging only 4.80 on returns attempted. We are #94 in defensive sacks, averaging only 1.60 per game, and #105 in tackles for loss @ 4.6 per game. We are #7 in fewest sacks allowed, with only 3 allowed through 5 games. It's clear just from the sheer numbers that defense and special teams are a real problem, which I think everybody knows by now.

Yep our defense is really lacking so far. That S FL team that ran all over us hasn't done much at all against any other decent team. Our offense while lacking a true deep threat in the passing game hasn't been that bad.

So, it's a really good thing that they got rid of that sorry 3rd and Grantham DC.... 😉

BTW, maybe those stats would look different if UF hadn't played 3 Top 20 teams already. Stats can depend on many things, SoS not being the least of them....

=====

Here's another one of those other things that can affect the stats.
81 players took the field in Florida's 52-17 victory over Eastern Washington on Sunday. (which is exactly what should happen any time they play a team/game that has no betting line)

"It's a big deal, man," Napier said regarding UF's deep rotation after the win. "These are opportunities that you need. That's the good thing about today is we did what we needed to do so we can do that."

I'm happy for QBpp Kitna, I've always thought that he should be the #2 instead of QBpp Miller, now maybe some can forget about Jack being the backup at #2.

The iG's only minor complaint, is that he didn't give QBdt Max Brown at least one series to end the 4th quarter, just to get his college QB feet wet...

Would be nice to have WR Marcus Burke gets some reps sooner rather than later.

Not sure what the deal is with him. I remember him making a few nice catches against SC I think it was last season. He was in the doghouse during the spring apparently.

Do you know how fast any of those Fr WRs are? If any have any real speed they need to be fast tracked into becoming starters as we have no one that threatens a good SEC defense on deep routes enough to make them have to respect that.

Chris Doering, "I may be slow, but I keep on getting behind those fast CB's...."

1) Get open.
2) Make the catch.

3) Speed....

Change "becoming starters" to "getting significant playing time" and I am 100% on board. Actually, I'm not against them becoming starters, I just don't think it's important who gets the start.
