Football UCF @ Florida...

It was a weird game. Colorado kinda exploded between the first and second quarters and UCF had to pass to keep up. Harvey and Jefferson had like 150 yrds rushing combined, but it didn’t come easy.
Hudson was completely neutralized because of Hunter.
By the time UCF could make any adjustments, it was too late.
sadgator still thinks UCF is a high quality team and that the Colorado score wasn’t entirely representative of how UCF played offensively….However; it does make you wonder whether UCF’s defense can stop UF. The game could be a very high scoring shootout.
I have no idea what will happen in this game, but I do think Gus Malzahn is a better coach than Billy Napier and I expect UCF to win. Sad to say, but hope I'm wrong.
In Napier's 3rd season, UCF comes into the Mighty SWAMP as the favorite,,, how sad is that?
Facilities matter. Investing in the program matters. Fiscal responsibility matters. Nick Saban was recently quoted about Florida's woes. He talks about how Florida has been through four coaches since Urban Meyer. These coaches were all successful before being hired at Florida and they each ultimately failed in Gainesville. While it's easy to just blame the coach, you have to wonder if there is something systemic?
The iG has identified a big part of the problem as being the shift from being UF, to being Socialist-U.

As to the tail of the problem, there's this:
If you want to attract top talent, develop that talent, keep that talent, and fill in the gaps through the portal, you can't just rely on the school's name. You also need all 3 phases (O-D-ST) to have coaches that exhibit player development abilities. Then you need playing systems (play book), with solid game plans and game day play calling that best fits those players skills.
At this point, everyone can see that there are many problems, not just the HC, but he IS responsible for making the tail wag correctly on game days.

Muschamp was a bad hire. He had 0 head coaching experience. He was also a flop at SC. He's where he belongs in a coordinator role. McElwain was a weirdo and bad hire. Bad cultural fit. His entire portfolio was one 10-2 season at Colorado State. Mullen's claim to fame as a head coach prior to UF was one 10-3 season at Miss St. He surrounded himself with poor coordinators and poor recruiters. Not a bad hire, but he was lazy when it came to recruiting (K. Ratliff explains this in great detail). Napier is a bad hire. Some success at LA Lafayette but should not have been hired to run a big time program. He has also surrounded himself with craptacular asst coaches. AD Scott S is a bad hire. Dude blows as an AD. Needs to be the first one fired. FYI, most major universities are socialist in nature.
I agree with almost everything you said, CG1. At the time Muschamp was hired he was the head coach in waiting at Texas and thought to be the best head coaching prospect in the country by most people. It was thought, at the time, that Florida did great in pulling him away from Texas. He first had to clean up a lot of disciplinary issues left over from Meyer and over time it became apparent that he was NOT the head coach that almost all so-called experts thought he was going to be. Some men are great position coaches, like Ron Zook, but just so-so- when they are put in complete control. I think that was the case with Will. But other than our differing perceptions of Muschamp, I totally concur with all else in your post.
Muschamp was the hot commodity for sure. When you look at all the coaching hires in 2010 the only one with really any success with Brian Kelly at ND (Jimbo 1 season at FSU). All the other guys who were hired that year flopped as well. I agree with Sad on this, don't ever hire a guy who played at your biggest rival to lead your program. So although he was the guy everyone thought was a can't miss, not sure why in the world we would bring over a dawg. And candidly, our program hasn't recovered since.
Insta, how does this compare to the later Doug Dickey years?
When you let a dog run loose in a house for four years you have to burn it down to get the stink out.
That guy was the worst. He single-handedly and intentionally destroyed the soul of our program and dismantled our very DNA.
To this day, we have not recovered. sadgator is a friend to all (except Bucanole and Laker/Shime), but he seriously can never forgive Muschamp for what he did to us.
It won't matter if we can't stop them, defense has left little confidence. Either way I'll be there with my kids from Nevada...2 of the 4 have never been to the swamp. I'm not predicting a win but it should be a fun experience for them none the less. No matter the score, Go Gators!
Always fun to accompany somebody on their first time in there. It will have a big game atmosphere. Both teams want it bad.
Looks like their best receiver is redshirting for the portal.

WR Trent Whittemore at UF caught 33 passes for 425 yards, 12.9 Yds/Rec and 2 TD's while primarily serving as a backup receiver. He also threw 2 TD passes. After Napier's arrival, Whittemore saw his role diminish, and so he eventually bailed out to a better football program at UCF.
Last Sat Trent had a 54-yard catch-and-run against Colorado. Going into this weeks game, the UCF HC had this to say....
"He's one of our better offensive players. He's one of those dirty work guys that he makes us go. He doesn't get his name in the paper like the rest of those guys, but he is so critical," said UCF head coach Gus Malzahn. "He made an unbelievable play on that one. And the fact that he has experience playing (in the Swamp) that definitely helps with really the other players and everything that goes with it. I'm real proud of him. He's had a great year so far."
Trent's treatment by Napier caused his younger brother Creed to flip his UF commit to MsSt, so the Gator's lost both of them, so thanks for that Billy....
Last week Creed caught 2 for 36 Yds vs the Gators.
Turns out it was a good/smart move by the WR brothers to go elsewhere....
Now this week, Billy is saying that he has a ton of respect for them both,,, yeah, right... Napier knew that with his offensive system and his own chosen players, that they would be much better (5-7) without the Wit-bro's.

Whittemore has 2 total catches this year for 65 yards. He had 3 total last year. Guy was getting more action as a backup at UF.
Him and his brother are both no talent chumps, so no real loss for this fine Gator team, and Billy definitely knows what he's doing with his team building....
Very true. My first game was '91 (I think) we played FSU. I sat in the South End zone...hot chick sat next to me, Matthews was the QB we won like 14-9. I was amazing!
A shoot out would be our best option to win IMO, hopefully we win the TO battle...we need somethings go our way. Hopefully the coaches can load the box and commit to try and stop the run.
Well he's on his second team and still not putting up big numbers. One of the classic instafails was you insisting he should have been starting over Pearsall. That was good stuff right there.
