Trump makes a rare mistake

IIRC correctly, Bill King and Bubba Miller had their show axed a few years ago when they made the mistake of criticizing Phat Fulmer.

Reminds me of a story Finebaum told, said he was playing golf with a fellow reporter years ago and the guy had this hideous orange leather golf bag with a huge T on it like the UT staff used.

Finebaum: "How the hell did you get that???"

Buddy: "By writing good things about Tennessee!"

As a "professional tourist" and when I was in the southeastern part of the U. S., I would listen to Bill and Bob on the 50,000 watt "Big Dog" WLAC 1510 Nashville. One said John Blake was the second worst coach in college football.

The late Bob Bell? Did you listen to George Plaster and Coach Doug Mathews.

Plaster is a regular at Bridgestone. Never met Mathews. Frequently see Pete Weber in the elevator. Nice guy willing to chat with the "staff." Willy Daunic is one tall dude and also very polite.

No to George and Doug. Bill and Bob had a show on the "Big Dog". I heard Bob Bell died. Bob and Bill were a trip and very good with sports.

My travel around the country gave me the opportunity to listen to many locals. Mizzou Tigers' Mike Kelly was the premier play by play basketball and football announcer.

In his day, Bob Barry was great for the Oklahoma Sooners. After he returned from his stint with Okie State he never was the same.

Georgia's play by play guy was too homey.

George is a colorful figure to say the least. He definitely stirs it up and isn't well known outside Nashville. The average Nashvillian has no clue who he is either but people who listen to sports talk around here know who he is:

When you give great customer service to these guys they reciprocate with their educated opinions and hospitality. Everybody likes to give you their opinion especially if its off the record. I dont think they have told me anything that they would not say on air but rather in a more conversational less guarded way.

Mr Bell died in 2010 @ 73 from cancer

I left the road in 2003. The Big Dog used to blast into Waco before Reagan deregulated and let the AM band become way over crowded.

WLAC broadcasts to the south and west night time with a null to the north to protect the big 1510 AM in Boston which broadcasts to the north only.

I could hear the Grand Ole Opry 640 but never listened. 640 is unrestricted omnidirectional day and night. One of the original clear channels.

Before the over crowding, WJR Detroit, WLS Chicago, WWL New Orleans, KSL Salt Lake heard at night in Waco.

Going west from Nashville, there's no 1510 stations broadcasting at night till Spokane. At night, the Spokane station broadcasts westerly. Omni directional daytime.

I just thought I'd share this with you Sunny.

Two glaring errors made by a magnificent Reagan. Reopening a closed AM radio band. Later the band was much wiser expanded from 1610 to 1700 AM. Going digital would have created space for a HUGE number of AM radio stations.

Going digital has permitted 1600 TV stations to fit into channels 2-36. Analog TV stations once occupied channels 2-83. Channel 44 in Waco has just "repacked" to ch 28. Late last year, ch 46 "repacked" to ch 17.

Reagan dismantled the metric changeover office signed into law by Gerald Ford. That has cost taxpayers and consumers countless millions being out of step with the world. In Reagan's first budget he said, "we're far enough along in our changeover, momentum will carry us." Wrong!

Damn! I miss Reagan.

Two errors I like.

AM does have a digital variant called "HD Radio" We have a conservative option thanks to AM and Reagan.

I like my day to day life in the English system. I prefer metric when doing science or technical stuff.

2x4x8, 16 oz lb, mixed drinks in oz, cookbooks all in English system, MPG, Driving distance. 1st and 10 goal to go. Too familiar with the quantities involved to want to change that.

But for math and science I like metric.

Wherever U. S. football is played, it's played in yards. Japan plays baseball in feet.

I pay more for my hard metric 125 mL Old Spice After Shave because U. S. law requires 4.2 Fl. Oz. on the label. English speaking New Zealand and Australia doesn't permit English measure on labels. Proctor and Gamble has begged Congress to permit voluntary metric only labels.

I coordinated a 2 week loading of a Russian ship at Gulfport. 200 semi trucks of Tyson chickens. 28 semi trailers from Gadsten , Alabama were mislabeled. The Russians don't buy chicken by the pound. A USDA guy sent 28 trucks back to Gadsten to get the labels right. Russia buys chicken by the kilogram. The Russkies were homesick and would have accepted the mislabeled boxes. The Russkies were angry with "stupid" Amerikans.

The mistake cost Tyson a mint. Tyson knows how to export chickens but made a mistake. I could tell a million costly stories about being out of step with the world.

Our government today is metric only but congress permits the public to cling to hybrid. NASA won't be bouncing a lander off Mars again due to a conversion mistake.

Mild headache driving into Canada in a U. S. rental. My spouse's 2017 Jeep has a full km display so would be a snap driving on the 401 from Windsor to Toronto.

A number of AM stations experimented with HD Radio and abandoned, including WBAP 820 in Cow Town. I believe Norway has mandated digital FM Radio. I'd like to see our FCC mandate HD Radio. I miss those days when KOKC in Oklahoma City blanketed the Aleutian Islands night time.

My car had both Km and mi plus cruise control. Speed not an issue . Figuring how far out I was from anyplace was a problem. I kinda have a feel for how far I am in miles.

So you are a Russian agent! Trying to subvert our measurement system. Busted :)

WLS Chicago's night time blaster is where I listened to the ole Clyde Clifford show, 'Beaker Theater' in the midnight hours, down in the Florida Keys.

Satellite radio has changed that. When driving overnight up to the cabin in the N.C. mountains, I'll listen to 'Coast to Coast' to keep awake and alert. Fun stuff usually. ;)
I despise having to drive through Atlanta in the day time, even using the inside car pool lane.

Wife just renewed Serius-XM Radio at 4.99 per month for 1 year. Our 1 year deal just played out and XM alerted us we'd be going up to the regular $22 per month rate. Wife said, "no way." We did have a $6.99 1 year deal. When they offered a $4.99 deal we said, "Heck yes!"

I'm just into year 2 of a wonderful deal with Charter Spectrum cable. 400 meg internet with Select TV plus Digitier I so I can watch ESPNU and spouse can watch Lifetime Movie Channel for $130.44 per month.

Runs out in April, 2021. If Spectrum doesn't make me a good deal, I'll use over builder Grande Communications 300 meg internet for $49 and stream Sling TV for $60 + tax. My RCA broadband antenna on the patio receives all Waco-Temple-Killeen TV market stations.
