Thoughts on this Florida team moving onto 2024......

Napier hasn't done much in the portal. He didn't do much last year either. Even after the defections we still are slated to bring back 17 starters. But we are in desperate need of oline and dline.
We're extremely deficient in the trenches on both sides of the ball and it doesn't look like corrections are coming in 2024. And 17 starters returning only matters if they were quality players to begin with. There, of course, is some development with great coaching and hard work, but these days they pretty much either have it or not coming out of high school, IMO.

My comment regarding 17 returning starters wasn't meant to indicate they were a good 17 returners, it was more around it could be part of the reason Napier has been so inactive when it comes to the portal. Regardless, if we don't get dline and especially oline help we are most likely looking at a very long season.

JMO as an outsider, but it doesn’t seem as though Napier and staff have picked up any real difference makers through the portal.

Florida transfer acquisitions (5)

Career college stats included for each player

WR Chimere Dike, Wisconsin: 44 appearances, 31 starts, 97 receptions, 1,478 yards, 9 TD's.

OT Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, San Diego State: 38 appearances, 36 starts, 6 sacks allowed over 1,187 career pass-blocking reps, per Pro Football Focus.

DL Joey Slackman, Pennsylvania: 28 appearances, 19 starts, 115 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one blocked kick.

DL Brien Taylor, Blinn College (JUCO): 13 appearances, 39 tackles, two sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble.

DB Trikweze Bridges, Oregon: 42 appearances, 17 starts, 91 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, 9 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles.

In the midst of the twelve days of Christmas, everyone needs to #kwitcherbitchin and savor and appreicate this Billy Nappy Naps ride we're on now and win or loss give it two more seasons before considering firing him. Changing the head coach between now and then ain't going to advance or better the program but rather regress it and keep us in the doldrums even longer and probably have Lagway transfer out. From afar Billy seems like a standup guy and quality character players are gravitating towards the program because of that.

🤣 ...If Napier can't get on track in 2024 he needs to go with a quickness with his incompetence. So far he has been a failure on the field and off the field. The only good thing under him is a lack of player arrests. I would be shocked if he isn't canned if we are 6-5 or worse after the home game against Ole Miss.

Other people are pretty sure he's being given through 2024 & 2025 to get the program back on track. I don't know what to think except that the last 3 years have been the worst since the 1940's for Gator football.

Its possible we have a decent D Line if some of the young guys take a nice step forward. We need someone who can really get after the QB.

I dont believe that because if we go 6-6 area again people will be rebelling. Heck if we were one of the upper tier West teams Napier would have been fired after last season despite the buyout. He doesn't even have the recruiting angle to save him now after that collapse.

Times are different now, college football is not as pure and fun and meaningful as it used to be. The camaraderie, the sticktoitiveness, the band of brothers, ride or die with the program you committed yourself too, being a teammate on a team, laying it on the line, etc., all gone. It's mostly just selfish players, selfish coaches, selfish athletic administrators. None care about the students, alumni, faculty, staff, and fans. I'd rather have a genuine coach, genuine players, genuine program, genuine university than some hired gun coach with rent a cop players that bilk the school, students, alumni, and fans out of money. In other words, more Damieon Pierce's and less Trevor Etienne's on in the program and university. I am glad we got Ben Sasse as that's rare to have a conservative as a university president. I don't like that he voted against Trump, but hey, he ended up in the ivory tower academia liberal bastion so he's at least way better than most options in that realm, haha. He's a start. Now, we gotta get rid of Scott Stricklin, I haven't liked him since the day he was hired, he just strikes me as weak sauce. Before any consideration of axing Billy Naps, we gotta axe Scotty Strikes first. If Napster goes below .500 in 2024, then it's almost a fireable offense but due to hardest SoS in history, haha, and due to Lags in the wings, Nappy gets a 2025 season to showcase his creation. We had the toughest SoS in 2006 and might have in 2008 but I ain't saying 2024 is going to be like those years, haha. I'm 41 years now, I've lost my mom when she was 46, I've lost my brother when he was 20, I've had brain cancer, broken back, broken ribs, seizures, my wife has multiple sclerosis....college football has deteriorated to rent a cop, weak tackling, soft hitting, no loyalty....the country and much of the world has gone to socialist shite....so yeah I just want genuine real deal university, president, football program, students, staff, players, alumni, and fans. All that, like great defense, travels and is something to be proud of. Also, Lagway is the truth, haha, so let's see what Billy and him do in the years ahead.

You're post reminds us all that there are a lot more important things in life than college sports or sports in general. I'm closing in on 72 years of age, a lifelong Gator alum who follows ALL our programs. I love sports and love talking about sports, especially Gator sports. But sometimes I waste too much time doing it because life is flying by and my time would be better spent on things more beneficial to my wife, kids, grandkids, church family, friends, etc. Maintaining a balance is important and we shouldn't be so caught up in trivial matters like Gator sports that we lose focus.

Praise God, Jesus, Holy Spirit as nothing is impossible when you call upon the Lord almighty. Sometimes life scares you to death or puts you in a bind to where Jesus is all you got but that's when you realize Jesus is all you need. A lot of us like me just tend to learn things the hard way, haha.

We could have Fred Taylor and Jimmy Dubose back there and with O-line we've got it's not going to make much difference, IMO.

I'm beginning to lean to the possibility that it's more the offensive system and the coaching quality, vs the player talent/quality.... 😑

Don't sleep on Webb, I think that kid could be really good.

Its not even funny anymore how bad we are doing in the transfer portal with the losses we are taking. If Napier doesn't get his head out of his butt soon Miami will leave with a win in the Swamp and 2024 will be another losing season. Its crazy we are in this position right now going into year 3.

What he did in limited action behind that OL is pretty impressive.
I believe that the entire RB room has quality players, but with the current OC, that might not be enough to get where they want to be in 2024.....

But keep in mind that the vast majority of Webb's runs in 2023 were against McNeeseSt. The rest of it (11 Gms) was his contributions on the ST's. We've yet to learn how he will do as a RB against the best competition, but I also have faith that he's got a chance to do good things next year, now that the ET has gone home.....

Lagway said if anyone else besides Napier will be calling the plays in 2024 it would be news to him.
How ‘bout a sniglet…

“Lagway”…”An incompetent or lazy attitude of a major D1 football program coach regarding the transfer portal.”

Example: “Man, the portal is full of great players, but Napier is being so lagway about it that he is going to get his ass canned before the 2024 season even starts!”
