Thoughts on this Florida team moving onto 2024......

He's the only Dlineman I did not want to lose. He took some plays off, but he was our best. First big hit.

If he wasn't getting a sack, he gave up. Took way too many plays off with zero hustle. He was also horrible vs the run and holding the edge. When the ball carrier was on the opposite side of the field, he'd just stand there and watch. Now he can take plays off for another team.

sadgator respects the heck out of Mertz.

That dude earned sadgator’s respect and admiration this season.

Has guts. Is tough. Played great. Displays leadership. Has poise.

Seriously, Napier hit a home run on that get. There is not one transfer QB who sadgator would rather have than Mertz.

He is the one thing that will give sadgator hope this off-season…

Well, him and Alexis Loomans, of course…

“Time of your life kid”…how can you not root for this guy?!?!?!?

"For me, it's the time of my life," he said.

Starting to wonder if Napier realizes he is finished and is just planning what he will do with that 26 million dollar buyout when canned after 2024. It's unthinkable a coach could be so inept he might not have a winning season at Florida over 3 years.

It won't be complete without Stricklin and Foley getting the boot.

Forgive my ignorance as a non-Gator, but I didn’t realize Foley is still part of UF Athletics(?)

It’s obviously apparent the Napier is back for 24, but if he fails (TBD) it’s also obvious that a higher-up housecleaning will be needed first.

Foley is no longer AD but he still has an office on campus, so I'm sure his presence still influences some decisions there as well. That's why I say Foley needs to be booted off campus.

I think this is a very honest assessment of the Gator football program. Pretty sad, IMO.
Good article. Most coaches are stubborn, and I highly doubt Napier will make the necessary program changes that will ultimately lead to wins. Brutal schedule, still a young team, will most likely mean he doesn't make it to November. But we shall see. The NIL levels the playing field and he might score some wins in the portal.

It’s bad enough that Florida just finished its 2nd straight 7-loss season under Napier, capping a run of 3 straight 7-loss seasons for the first time in school history. Johnson and G O’Cyrus Torrence, who left for the NFL after 2022, both played with Napier at Louisiana, and were locks to follow him to Gainesville. The remainder of the 18 transfers are full of the unwanted and unloved — and uneven play. While 1/2 of his 1st class of HS recruits have departed....
But that's okay, cause next season they have loyal Mertz & Miller returning......

Arguably Florida’s best player on each side of the ball entered the transfer portal: Edge Princely Umanmielen and RB Trevor Etienne. More disturbing is the way both left, clearly explaining the reason, without doubt, is coaching.
Mullen says hold my beer.....

It’s bad enough that the program, on game day, is an operational and functional mess and has had 2 straight seasons of historically poor defense.
Grantham says hold my beer....

This very long time Gator fan is not at all happy about being mostly correct... 😣
But to the Socialist Progressives now in charge,,, Get Woke - Go Broke

That is a bad article and not much to argue with. However I do think Napier inherited a very broken program from Mullen. I mean the guy basically quit halfway through the season. And also let his team go out and lay down and completely humiliate themselves and him in a new years bowl. So that’s a bad attitude and in my opinion not entirely explainable by saying that the president was woke.

In the 2021-22 coaching carousel, LSU hired Brian Kelly, Southern Cal hired Lincoln Riley, Oregon hired Dan Lanning, TCU hired Sonny Dykes, Washington hired Kalen DeBoer, Duke hired Mike Elko, who was so good Texas A&M has now hired him to replace Jimbo, Notre Dame hired Marcus Freeman, Oklahoma hired Brent Venables and Florida hired Billy Napier. Of that group, which school made a worse choice than Florida? Regardless of what I think of each of these coaches or their universities, they have all had much more success in their first 2 years than Florida. TCU played for the national title last year and Washington is in the playoffs this year. How many of these other guys did our AD even reach out to? I don't know the answer to that one, but I think a decent argument can be made that our AD blew it big time.

I wonder what RBs GA and Bama do have for next season. If it's close to what they usually have Etienne may not get a ton of carries.

Yeah I agree. I’m no fan of the job that Napier’s done. I’d trade him for Hugh Freeze in 2 seconds.

Unless he gets it together we screwed up big time. I honestly can't remember a worse in game coach than maybe Miami's current coach. I think the people saying his success at his last school was just out talenting the other teams look to be more correct as every game goes by. Still hoping he can turn it around though. If we are slow in the portal again he might as well start planning how to use that 26 million going away gift though.

His downfall the same as Mullen, both made lousy coaching hires and were stubborn about it.

If you believe that ONLY the president at UF is WOKE, then you're clueless imo.

And Mullen got dumped on long before his final season. IMO, it began after the aTm game where they filled their stadium during the WOKE scamdemic. Dan wanted to do the same in the SWAMP and the WOKE JOKES went after him,,, the beginning of the end for Dan.

It began with the ending of the Urbanizer V
Musclecramp V
McLame V
Mullen V
Napier ??? but looking V

Continuing to blame Dan & Todd for Socialist-U's decade+ long downfall is tunnel-vision at it's worst imo....

Not their fault, but they are part of it. We can't get the coaching hire right.
