There is a chance that only 3 SEC teams make the 12 team playoff this year...

I would really be surprised if they allowed a 3 loss power 4 team to go over a 1 loss power 4 team pre- champ game so my guess is SMU gets in with a loss.

I guess I lean to Bama due to media influence beating out SC and Miami if SMU wins. SC has the argument its the best of them the 2nd half of the season.
I'd like to see USC-E get in just because I hate them less than Bammer and Clemson. As far as deserving, well, I don't think Clemson is good enough to be there, would have liked to see USC beat them by more than 3 to show they weren't basically on that same "not good enough" level. Bammer getting curb stomped by Okie put them as underserving in my book. Miami had a powder puff schedule, lost twice and had a couple of ref-aided wins. Nope. Iowa State? Illinois? BYU? Frankly, I don't know who is deserving of that 12th spot, if anybody.

I think they'll lean heavily on FPI rankings and Alabama is ahead of them all.

That and Sagarin are complete jokes for some teams imo. I think Bama would have to go 6-6 not to be top 15 in those 2. I think some of it is their initial bias at the beginning of the season.

Committee said they would not punish teams for champ game loss over teams that are sitting home hoping for a backdoor. If they are true to their word, then SMU is in regardless and Clemson could screw it up for Bama.

USCe in the CFP? Just last year their fans only wish was to fire Shane Beamer after losing to UF.

I just hope some of these top 12 teams arent like some of the bowl games in the past where teams get run off the field. I could see Bama and Tenn being one and done if Bama gets in.

I guess Ohio State could possibly blow TN out. GA might roll Indiana.

I think ASU if they win the Big 12 might hang with Penn State or ND. If SMU lost to Clemson I think they hang with ND. I also think Miami or a 3 loss SEC team hangs with ND or Penn State.

This was part of the point though. Better to have frauds bumped off in the first couple of rounds of a 12 team playoff than to have frauds in the final 4/2 teams.

How in the hell do they get in though? I pissed off a bunch of Clemson fans when I predicted the Cocks would beat Jed Clempett's ass on a national board. My only regret that the score was that close. Clemson is a joke this year and Dabo is a whiny assed bitch as usual. I can't stand that guy, I actually rooted for FSU to beat his ass in the past. 😂 That takes a lot of hatred of his stupid ass.

Bama lost to an SEC team a bottom of the conference sun belt team beat.

Ole Miss lost to KY who got smoked by an average ACC team.

That average ACC team beat Clemson by 12 while SC barely beat Clemson.
(Please read the article of how bad the SEC kicked everyones butt before posting.)

To back up Smart’s point, 8 of the 10 teams with the best strength of schedules are in the SEC. Per ESPN’s Football Power Index, Texas has the worst strength of schedule in the SEC and they’re still No. 32 in the nation.
Additionally, SEC teams went 8-3 against ACC teams, 2-2 against Big 12 teams, and 3-1 against Big Ten teams. This means that SEC teams went 13-6 overall against the 3 other power conferences in 2024. For reference, the Big Ten went 7-9 against power conference opponents and the ACC went 10-12.

The Fevered Brain pointed out a pattern with the Gammecocks on how they'll finish with a winning record one year then follow up with 7 losses the next year.

Outside of GA/Clemson and then the normal rival games the last saturday of the regular season, I can't remember any of the SEC teams playing against a marquee team from any other conference. Maybe I missed it? Regardless, Ga Tech bitched slapped GA most of the game. Dawgs were bailed out by a phantom PI call, Clemson played SC tough, Ville routed KY, so really I don't see much difference between ACC and SEC.

No, but they also don't tell the entire story. Big difference taking on Ohio State vs Rutgers. Outside of Clemson, I can't remember anyone in the conference taking on another conference's top teams? NIL and the portal have ended the SEC margin of superiority. Georgia State, that's right Georgia State, beat Vandy and then 13 days later Vandy beat Bama.

That's just Vandy being Vandy. It's not a team anybody in the USA has circled on their upcoming schedule. 😂 Vandy gave us hell in all 3 Natties we won, unless I missed one of them not being a pain in the ass. They are usually a PIA most years, close but no cigar. (until post Spurrier).

Seriously, are we really going to pump up Vandy? Come on man! Would you have ever thought that Vandy would beat Bama, and in the manner in which they did it? They rolled up 44 points on the tide. Michigan proved last year that the Big 10 had pulled nearly even, and the year before Ohio State was 1 missed FG from beating GA. Not much difference any longer.

Meh. Bama is not your Bear/Saban's team anymore. FFS, they got abused by a terrible Oklahoma team as well as losing to Vandy. They also got beat by UT. Their only quality win was against UGA. That's not much of a bar for an always pesky Vandy to clear. If Vandy played horseshoes with hand grenades, they'd be downright dangerous.

Texas beat Michigan. aTm beat ND. UGA trashed Clemson.

Did any other conference have better OOC wins? Big 10’s going to get 4 in who did they best out of conference?

Of course SEC’s big hitters are not as good as they were. They used to be three deep with NFL starters.

I do like the 4 top seeds rule making conference championships meaningful but it will allow one good game to get a lesser team in the semi-final games.

ND beat AM at AM. USC also beat LSU.

Not to get TT all hot and bothered, but Dart is the best QB in the league, and Ole Miss is better than Bama. So is SC. They are more deserving than Bama.

I wouldn’t trade Lagway for Dart for a start this weekend. Dart can make plays but he falls apart too easy.

Yes on further review ND beat aTm. That was many weeks and I can only imagine how many bottles of Guinness ago.

Arguments against the SEC being better than other decent teams.

GA State beat Vandy. Vandy beat Bama and lost to TX by less than they did to GA State.

ND who lost to N Illinois whipped the 2nd place SEC conference team on their own field.

USC who lost to ND whipped LSU on a neutral field. LSU beat Ole Miss who pounded Georgia.

Louisville pounded KY. KY beat Ole Miss who pounded GA and lost a close one to GA themselves. Louisville beat Clemson a lot easier than SC did.

Miami beat FL down on their home field. FL beat Ole Miss and LSU.

Bama could have 8 losses and they would still put them in. What in tf are they doing in the playoffs? 10 days ago they got smoked by an unranked OU team

Hopefully Clemson wins just to keep Bama out. I think that TCU year was about the only year they didn't assist Bama some if they could.

I've always liked Boise St. They've been one of the most consistent programs in the country, even under 3 different coaches over the years. I'll never forget that Fiesta Bowl game where they beat Oklahoma on a trick play. And watching them play on the Smurf Turf is great.

We should be in the playoffs. The precedent was set last yr that it's not who is most deserving. We are playing really good ball rn and would have beat UGA if Lagway didn't get hurt

You are right, that's not the way it will play out. Bama is in as long as Clemson doesn't pull the upset.
With the way the rankings came out this week, I don't think SMU gets in if they lose to Clemson. Right now SMU is #9 in strength of record, Alabama is #10. SMU is #12 in FPI, Alabama is #4. SMU is #75 in strength of schedule, Alabama is #18. While Bama has lost to Vandy & Oklahoma, plus lost to a playoff team, Tennessee, they also beat Georgia, a playoff team and have wins over LSU, Missouri and South Carolina. SMU's loss is to BYU, with their only notable wins over Louisville & Pittsburgh. While I would LOVE to see SMU get in with a loss, I just don't see it happening, with SOS being the primary reason. We shall see, though. I don't think SMU is going to lose to Clemson anyway.
