Raymond Cottrell: “The reason I made that decision is because of the way Florida recruits. I don’t understand why, but for example, the wide receivers coach, Coach (Billy) Gonzales, I would rather him have a relationship with me. Still, we barely talked,” Cottrell said. “I’ve been talking to the linebackers coach, and that’s not even my position. For me, I take it like I have to have a relationship with my coach. If I’m sitting here fixing to play for you, I need to have a relationship. Coach Hankton built the relationship up from eighth grade when I got offered by them. I’ve got trust in those guys. I didn’t feel the trust or relationship with Florida.”

I thinnk Georgia has been putting recruits up to fake commitments then flips from Florida just to get mess out there. Seen too many of those recruits pulling this the past few years.

Ridiculous. If we had legit interest in him, and I don’t see why we wouldn’t, this is freaking malpractice. Completely unacceptable.

It took a lot to earn his “trust…”

Billy G was one of our best recruiters back in the Urban Meyer days. Felt like his name was attached to a recruit's name more often than not.

That being said, I'm not going to slander a kid by saying he's jumped to uga because of bribery. If you have proof? Fine, let's see it. I'm not saying UGA, Bama, etc can't be shady...but let's not be so bitter that we generalize every recruit like a bitter ex-girlfriend.

We gotta face the fact that money or not, uga is a hot spot for somebody to want to play for.....and I don't blame these kids at all.

Or you can play for a program that looks to be in bad shape for the majority of the last 10 years. If a UF recruiter isn't going A+ on building a relationship then it's no surprise what happens next for UF during these shaky times.

Meyer talked about how he had to build relationships with recruits when serious competitors were making their pulls. A prime example is how much effort Meyer had to do of building a relationship with Tebow to pull him away from Bama. Uf wasn't doing particularly well at that time. So, what this kid on the topic is saying is a huge factor and understandable...and mullen's history of a lacking recruiting may suggest that not building personal relationships is the problem.

Given how recruits are dropping like flies and Mullen's history of lacking recruiting....this might be a common reason. They aren't all going to UGA or Bama....they're gonna go all 4 directions, even to lesser programs.

Someone mentioned FSU doing this in the past but like I said before I think GA is just piling on while we are down also. I could be wrong but I don't remember recruits like Elam taking shots like these at Georgia when finally choosing Florida. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Georgia knows the kids are going to commit then flip to them.

We better get a good recruiter added to the staff soon however.

I wont put much past college recruiting tactics, even like you mention.

That being said, we aren't 35th in recruiting because of what UGA does or doesn't do.

I like coach Mullen but he comes off as anything but personable.

Losing another espn 300 kid to the dawgs is a double whammy. Soon we will be chasing USF leftovers.

What seems odd is that Billy was RC when Urban was at UF for a time. I get that once a coach "graduates" from the role they don't usually want it back. But you'd think you'd still have what it takes to still wear the hat for recruits that will play for you.

such a good point that we were struggling when Meyer was first recruiting. Bama was our top competitor for Tebow and destroyed us in Tuscaloosa that year.

This falls directly in line with the way Kirby personally feels about the Gators. If this is the claim, I 100% believe it
A clip of his halftime speech in Jax is floating around now. He hates his rivals just as when he was a player. So none of that surprises me.

To be fair, if your position coach is ignoring you, it's usually cause they've lost interest in you. Saban does it all the time with recruits, and they will go somewhere else and cite the main reason why is cause they 'didn't feel the love' from the coaches.

No you didn't, cause they moved on. No idea if that's what happened here, but sounds like it just from this quote.

But that was when Shula was recruiting him, not Saban. Shula threw the house at Tebow and Tebow really liked Shula. But at the end of the day the school ties were too much.

If we had gotten Tebow then we never would have gotten Saban. So thank you.

This is true. This class is not exactly loaded, however. When Saban moves on, he's usually got 2 five-stars right behind the kid. He's not currently listed as a UGA commit, so maybe he doesn't have a real offer.
