I couldn't imagine having learned as much about the basics of the game not playing in pads as a young kid and learning everything good and bad, get the fear out of them from contact and how to take and give it.. No one really gets hit hard enough or weighs enough to give concussion blows at that age without a bad fall on the ground hitting your head... by the time we got to 8th grade at middle school level we were terrorizing people running the football from the basics we already knew right before HS...8th grade was like an extra freshmen year towards HS at learning the game
if we keep pushing the game the route it's going, that terrible defense we see out there from like Big 12 teams not being able to tackle anyone is going to continue long term...each year it looks more and more like these teams and kids have never tried to tackle anyone in open space or a drill in their lives
