The big Republican VP debate is tonight!!!!

Haven’t watched one second of it, but here’s my guess.

Nikki, Asa, Christie, Scott, Pence, all give good establishment, Rino proud answers.

Ron has multiple deer in headlight moments and seals his Jeb Bush fate.

Vivek comes off looking great.

How close am I?

Yep I don't see it helping DeSantis too much despite Fox protecting him. I was surprised Vivek wasn't hit more about his past statements but I would say he benefited some tonight. Scott may be a little more of a consideration for the NeverTrump crowd. I don't see it helping Christie.

Tucker asked Trump if we are headed toward civil war, if we are headed toward conflict. Trump said he didn't know, but said there was a ton of passion in this country right now, people that love this country and hate whats happening to it. He said that's a bad combination.

BTW on that note.....Trumps appearance in court tomorrow will be televised, blow by blow.

I watched a bit of it and then have seen some of the morning commentary. Pretty spot on.
Vivek is the only one who is honoring the best elements of Trump, echoing Reagan and bringing in some of the younger energy that (even if you hated Obama) Barack did well back in 2008.

Pence was worthless. Ada is less than worthless. Vivek destroyed Christie on "grievance". Nikki Haley is trying her best to keep John Bolton at full employment.

Tim Scott was quiet. Giving VP energy.
Ron - it is crazy. He is genetically unable to smile.

For Vivek - you are not going to win 2024. But 2028? How does he go on the same stage as Trump? Why do that unless the Trump and Vivek campaigns agree to some bargain to only focus on Biden. Vivek, I think, is a bit like Gavin Newsome, but needs to be more formal in campaigning, where he is ready IF something happens to the primary candidate.

In short, Russell, a pretty perfect take.

Andddddd....he's done.
Although his energy and presence is on point, yeah: 1. why in the WORLD borrow from anyone, 2. why in the WORLD quote Barrack in a Republican primary and 3. why make "fun" of yourself. It's not humanizing - and republican primary voters do not care.

The question for Vivek, similar to DeSantis is a 2028 discussion. Trump, unless he is in jail (which would set off something.....) is going to run and be the nominee.

Trump - I also thought, showed great DISCIPLINE by not debating. He does not need to and being on Tucker was a master stroke.

I don't think that he is. But, as smart as he clearly is, he comes across as rather snarky and pompous.

He got some jabs in and took a few as well but I don't think overall that he really helped himself last night.
We'll see what the polls look like post-debate. I didn't watch but would guess Vivek ends up moving into 2nd place now for good.

Maybe. I fear he's a snake in the grass.

Not sure the deal with him but if he is doing this to hurt DeSantis it's working so far I would say. He probably is hoping he can be the choice if the left was able to get Trump and maybe wanting a position in the administration if Trump wins.

Him being pompous doesn't bother me, I worry about his potential ties to soros and others.

If there's no worry there, I have no problem with him at all.

Like most of them he definitely changes his tune depending on how things are at the time.

Just shows you how much Fox was for the uni-party candidate.

It turns out, and again, I am the Moderate here, Joe..."ALL OF IT...IS TRUE".

Yes, this is why trust in the MSM is at an all time low.
Chris Wallace should be in retirement. An embarassment.

It's clear on social media Team DeSantis was told to just go after Vivek post debate as that is what they are all doing. They must be scared he got more exposure last night and did alright.

My observations...
1. Desantis was NOT sincere at all...this job seems to big for him at the moment.

2. Everyone but Vivek stood out as establishment RINO's. The money to Ukraine question smoked that out. I do not believe any of these politicians are doing what WE want...rather what PAYS them.
3.Christie will quit shortly...saw it in his eyes when they showed disbelief how many people bood him.
4. Burgam LOVED his responses, however this job is WAY too big for him. However he will be someone in our party.
5.Haley knocked it out of the park on abortion. She F'd up talking about Trump and how he will be campaigning while under legal troubles. I think that was a HUGE mistake.
6.Pence did himself NO FAVORS. He was rude, and talked over everyone. Trying to show a side of him that is not real...being tough. He is NOT tough.
7. And THE most important thought...NOT ONE candidate talked enough about, or told how they were going to repair this disastrous economy...the #1 thing on most Americans minds.
8. Trump was smart not showing...they ALL would have attacked him because they smell blood..not because it is the right thing to do.

One person spoke from their heart...one was saying what he thought everyone wanted to hear..it was VERY obvious. POTUS is more job than DeSantis is prepared for at this time. Maybe down the road. But his decision making since he started to run really makes you wonder about his overall abilities. How can such a GREAT Governor be such a horrible candidate?

Agree on the above, Capt.

On #5, interesting was that I did not see Haley's response outside of the filibuster comment. To me that is not a principled view, but an "insider washington" one.

What also was interesting on Abortion is that Pence said that (I believe) that, "we should align on 15 weeks".

My point to that is, "what?" What a losing position.
There are two possible Republican positions on Abortion (maybe three):

1. Ban all abortions, it is death to a fetus - it is a morally principled one (which I applaud), but clearly a loser. This is an evangelical one.
2. Ban all abortions when the fetus is viable outside of the womb (except for life/health of the mother), it live without the mother, so it has independent rights - this both a moral and legal view, and one that most moderates will agree with. Ban for reasons of rape and incest. Reason - after 20 weeks, you know. This is a libertarian view.
3. Agree to leave it to the states and then state position #1 or #2.

Pence at 15 weeks is solving nothing. Clearly he is not purely principled or else his position is #1.

Go away, Pence.

I will admit - I completely got DeSantis wrong. Spot on Captain.

You think Scott could pick up some more NeverTrump vote in places like Iowa just by not being good or bad really?
