LED is great for boat trailer lights but indoors not so much. Wife bought 3 flush mounts for the kitchen and 2 burned out in less than 2 years. They are a pain in the ass for this old geezer to wire up as well.

The diodes themselves are ridiculously reliable and efficient (and expensive).
I have no idea what a rectifier is. I just know it's damned easy to change a lightbulb, and mounting a LED light is a overhead is a PIA, and long term reliability sucks---speaking from personal experience.

Every LED I’ve ever seen actually runs on DC. Companies will say theirs can run on either but there’s always a circuit build in that converts.
The weak link in any AC LED circuit is where the electricity type is converted.
I’ve been a Product Manager for our LED light system for over a decade, our lights have a 7 year warranty and our transformers have a 3 year warranty…if that tells you anything. We almost never see LED’s fail. We have one pointed at a sign in our training center that’s been on continuously for over 6 years. They are pretty awesome tech.
Color temp control (kelvins) and color accuracy have improved dramatically over the last 5-7 years, and costs have come down.

Diodes allow current to flow in one direction. AC flows back and forth hence alternating.
