As a black man idgaf if a white person says the N word. We as a community say/ use it towards each other. I’m not dropping a kid because of a mistake. Btw, white people or any race that grows up with a lot of black people use the N word way more than the internet would have you believe.
And it's accepted. I've been a youth football and baseball coach in Polk county for over 20 years. I've had the whole team bus going down the road and everybody singing the same song and the adults weren't approving of the language in the song but the kids weren't doing any harm and they were all enjoying each other's company and singing a song that we thought was stupid. We didn't want to have them arrested, we didn't label them racist, or think they were bad people. Again like doc said, context... I agree it isn't a good look and you should try to be smarter than that, especially a future quarterback of The University of Florida. He will find a landing spot and be perfectly fine. His friends and family knows who he is regardless of what that might be.

However in society you have people touching little kids and murdering over 15 of their classmates and they get minimal punishment. Everybody wants to try to figure out a way to help them but if somebody slips up and does something a little inappropriate especially for a young man or woman they are burnt at the cross... I find it very interesting

So the “artist” that sings it is okay to say the word but not a kid singing the song from that artist.. that is where the problem starts.. focusing on the kid when the focus should be on the “artist’.. making a big deal out of nothing.. banned the artist from singing the song and kids won’t have to listen to it or even singing it.. that is where it should start..
He is accountable for his own actions, period! No one else! he should know better that word is unacceptable to use in any way, quoting a singer, or otherwise. He can’t control what other people say, but he can control what he says, and he obviously didn’t.

For a day and age that's supposed to be the most forgiving.. it's the total opposite.
That word should never cross his lips, plain and simple. Should he be dropped? Crucified? No, but he should simply not say it and damn sure not record himself and allow it on the internet. Just dumb, and asking people not to be offended is actually offensive.

Then don’t put it in a song. If it is so offensive why is anyone allowed to say it? Asking for a friend.
if people didn't have double standards they'd have no standards at all.

The word's vulgar. Not one I'd use, one I'd discourage those around me from using.

Yet it's used repeatedly in Blazing Saddles, which (IMO) is a classic comedy

Not saying someone can't be offended, I'm saying it wasn't used in malice. I can find a million things to be offended about if I cared about something as miniscule as this.

Blazing Saddles came out nearly 50 years ago and only 10 years after the Civil Rights Act. That was a much different time. I wouldn’t use 1974 as the standard of what’s acceptable today. Go back far enough in time and you can find people that thought nearly anything was acceptable. We should be growing and evolving everyday. Stokes did something stupid, but he was singing along to a song. I think intent is important to consider, and his only intent was to sing the lyrics to a song he likes.

I don't think the older generation realizes how common this is among teens that have a diverse group of friends. If you grow up with friends of another race who use those words, you're more likely to use them to. If your minority friends are ok with it, a kid isn't going to listen to an adult that tells you how bad it is. They view us as out of touch. My son goes to a school where there isn't a majority race. A few years ago some parents were freaking out because they found out it was going on and none of the kids cared.

So, just being curious, as a white guy who growing up, loved rap music and was singing the songs all the time (admittedly, never wanted to record myself and/or post it online). Am I not suppose to sing any lyrics that a non white person might find offensive? Its singing a song, its not directing it at someone or calling someone it.

I have no idea what word he used but I i’ve got a pretty good guess seeing some of the comments. What was the context of the word used?

I don't want to stop or move the convo, but we have to get off the potentially racist aspects of it. Not the forum for this ...

Pretty harsh on a 17 year old.

Ain’t a guy in the locker room who would give a crap if he said it like he supposedly did while singing a song. From experience, it happens every single day in HS locker rooms. You think every white kid on a team just listens to country???

I’m guessing if he is gone it has zero to do with that.

He shouldnt say it.
I dont think he should be dropped.
Kid is a white rapper in highschool, good portion of his teammates are african american and I bet he wont get "handled" for this.

And back to the topic, he wasn't likely to sign here after Rashada committed so this is all water under the bridge. QB is the one position where you don't share a lot of reps. He wasn't likely good enough to ever see meaningful snaps here to begin with and even less so with Rashada and soon to be Lagway on board.

I've said it many times singing songs in front of several teammates & friends, no one gives a $hit. This is only an issue for the Twitter mob etc his teammates and friends know who he is.

I’m not saying the kid should lose his scholarship or anything like that but it’s just a bad look imo

Which in some ways is a good thing. It means they don’t recognize the pejorative because the concept of racism for them is probably absurd. Not suggesting the word should be used, but for a larger majority of the younger generation the ignorance associated with racism isn’t something they can relate to. Or at least that’s what I like to think.

Pretty harsh on a 17 year old.
If he can cash million dollar checks playing college football and repping huge organizations, he should be self aware enough not to be doing this. At 17 most people know that word isn’t tolerated.

Fair point,

From what I can gather, the kid is a project, someone who could develop over time, but not someone who's going to get on the field at a true freshman.

Obviously, even with the portal, we couldn't wait to '24 to get a HS recruit in here, so we took him b/c he could become a good player.

Rashada returning to the fold is reason for him to step back & take a look. Us too.

Lol. Were you self aware at 17? All you're thinking about was getting laid and looking cool. Don't think much else mattered then. At least, that's what I'm able to remember from that age.

Well at present he is not playing college football, he is not cashing million dollar checks, and he is not repping huge organizations. But nice try

I’m friends with some coaches on his high school team. Has a ton of talent but is missing the maturity level. That being said they think he will be very good as he gets older

I wouldn't mind signing him with an eye towards moving him to safety if QB development lags
