At 56 you may be asking too much to see actual “gains” in terms of muscle mass. What it can do is maintain the muscle mass you have and slow the aging process. Probably want to look toward “conditioning “ rather than muscle mass gains. You won’t catch me doing the long endurance cardio type stuff. I think the high heart rate type movements that wear you out in 20 minutes is better for you. Different jumping movements, jump rope, body weight speed squats.
Eff squats and the horse they rode in on. I was fitter than a fiddle until I hit 55 and I religiously skipped leg day like it was the plague. 😂 I know plenty of olds who got serious back issue problems from doing heavy squats. They are saddled for life with them. Squats are for young athletes, and at best, they will just get fat asses and legs from that later in life. One of my brothers is afflicted with this.

This. I have 4 degenerative discs (L2-L5). Stopped squats around 32, wished I would have stopped earlier. Walking, stretching and riding the bike (when the weather allows) are my leg routines now. I had two knee surgeries due to sports riding the bike helped my knees tremendously.Eff squats and the horse they rode in on.
