Yes while it is necessary to get rid of it early before too much damage is done, my point was that we and the public will never know the true story, or 100% of it at least. Perception is everything. All the upcoming class of recruits know or will see (if they care) is that Florida signed a bunch of kids last year and some never even made it to fall practice. Get too much of that and some folks will think there's a problem with your program.

One got homesick, one was a trouble maker, one had grade issues. A total of 3. It happens at numerous places across the board. It happened at UF when we were good under Spurrier and Urban.

Won’t call him a punk but it was obvious from the beginning his reason for leaving was bullshit. He just so happens to land at the school that everybody thought he was going to originally not even a week after putting his name in the portal. That’s why all the players were calling him out, he’s putting the school in a bad light so he gets a waiver to play ASAP, it’s a weak move.
Hell if you want to be real he’s partly responsible for the trouble Jones got in. The police report said the one girl didn’t ask Jones to stop until he came busting into the room. But he wants to paint himself like some victim who had to suffer for months in a room with somebody he didn’t wanna he with when he’s all over social media hanging with Jones having himself a good time. Like I said then if it was about the room he was one week away from being in a new dorm. Don’t know how anybody ever bought that bullshit.

1. I wasn't that interested in Fields when he was being recruited. I actually liked Emory Jones better. Turns out I was correct. We still have Emory, while the schmuckeyes now have Fields...
1a. I also liked Jalon Jones, but as it turns out, he was a low character loser. Bummer, I guess you can't expect to get recruiting right on every single one of them, every year.
2. Anthony Richardson makes losing Jalon an overall plus imo.
And I'm glad that we got Anthony, while you ended up with Carson.

You know I actually thought Jones had a bright future here also looking at his tape and in drills etc. I hadn't really heard he had some big issues in high school before.
As long as we have a good QB this next class we can handle his loss.

If I were three years away from signing an 8 figure contract, then my number 1 priority would be getting that contract. Same for anyone on this board with any sense.
Personally, I wouldn’t have any problem blowing up some bad circumstance at my old school in order to play immediately, but that wasn’t necessary here. NCAA is handing out waivers like candy. Being put in a room with a guy accused of two sexual assaults in 20 minutes and having your name attached to it in national media should be perfectly sufficient even without the room transfer request. As for the room switch, nobody disputes that he did request to be moved out. You can speculate as to whether it was related to Jones’ behavior, but that seems as plausible a reason as any.
You can say he just thought he made a mistake by coming to UF and wanted to go back to the West coast and that’s probably true. But you guys more easily discount than me, the impact on that decision of being thrown into a sexual assault scandal four months into your college career. Ooz, you initially were saying it was “obvious” that he was involved in the assault and that his leaving was UF “cleaning house.” That is obviously the perception and I wouldn’t blame him for wanting to start over somewhere else.
Put another way, if the Jones thing doesn’t happen, is he still transferring to Oregon two months after signing day? You guys seem more certain of it than I am.
And I don’t blame Mullen for either guy, unless Steele did come to him with concerns about Jones’ behavior. If he did, that’s a legit gripe and Mullen and Stricklin should have handled it. I think it’s laughable to assert that the head coach, and if necessary the AD, couldn’t find him a new room, and I haven’t heard that from anyone associated with UF.
Well at least Mullen hasn't had the mess happen here yet that Mac had happen with guys pulling guns out and threatening to shoot females and all the rape allegations etc.
All that would be taken into more consideration if he hadn’t had to be talked out of transferring a few weeks after being on campus. He wanted to leave anyway, the sexual assault gave him a convenient reason to leave and get to play ASAP. I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive. I think that’s become clear as more facts have come out since he’s applying for a waiver. What would be the basis for him to get one otherwise? His reasoning now looks a whole lot better than I was homesick and want to go to the school I planned to go to originally.
If Steele hadn't busted in on Jalon and the 1st Ho and started laughing at them, I doubt that any of this would have taken place. (something about scorned women and fury)
I don't know, just my own speculation, but I'm thinking that Steele's teammates were ready to put a foot in his azz over what he did.
Weak Calif Steele (actually cheap left coast pot-metal) couldn't beat out C.J. or Marco, and he'd likely have been passed up by Elam. Recruiting him was a bigger miss than Jalon imo.

I agree don't waist time with California unless the kid really wants to come here. Some people also say to take one star off CA defensive recruits so he may only be a 3.5 star Florida equivalent in reality.
Not that obsessed except you need top recruits to be able to knock off the Bama's etc. I remember someone joking about California defensive recruits needing to subtract a star due to the results many have.

I hope from this point forward we do not put much resources into chasing Cali kids unless they put fourth a higher effort in wanting to be here. This was a lesson learned. It was worth the try but now you learned something.
