Been afraid the past few years that UGa was going to end our scoring streak. Looks like I won't have to worry about that any more.

The streak continues!

The same people wondering if we might have enough scholarship players to field a team are shocked, SHOCKED, that we struggled today.

If I'm Napier, I go heavy portal and try to find 7 to 8 starters while the young recruiting class gets a yr to develop. I'd go heavy portal if I'm Napier.

I doubt we get more than maybe 3 starters from the portal. We have to hope what we fielded today can play a lot better next season plus a few freshman stepping up. Will have to watch the tape but it was crazy the O line played that poorly.

Yea watching the o line struggle was weird because they handled us pretty good. I think the blue print for new coaches has to be portal heavy first to fill holes and slowly allow recruits to develop over time. Napier had 2 weeks to put the last class together and transition classes rarely work out, so this is his "first real class" and it's loaded with talent but how fast can that talent be ready? Realistically it takes most players a yr or 2 to develop (not everybody is Etienne). I think that is the fastest way back to an 8 to 9 win season. Then you start stacking elite recruiting classes on top of each other (get rashada and Lagway, one of them has to be a hit) and then your in business.

He got a few I think will be decent next season but as far as the 2023 class not sure if many will be able to play at a decent level late in 2023 or not as that is hard to do. Bama actually had a few true freshman playing good in late 2008 but that 2008 class ended up really good.

There was actually a good nucleus of decent players this year until AR15 shit the bed, several injuries to the WR corp, and of course, a complete meltdown in coaching the defensive secondary. The ghost of Grantham haunted this class. Not sure the current DC is cut out for Division I football either.

Counting on multiple true freshmen to help or make a difference isn’t a good recipe for success. The team next year is likely going to be even younger than the one this year.

Potentially. Not sure what we can get out of the portal. We got 3 starters last year, and probably our best players. We most likely need 5-7 starters from the portal but not sure we can get that many.

Napier may turn out to be a great player developer, maybe a good recruiter too. But in today's landscape here , here today, gone tomorrow culture who knows? He certainly needs work on his time/clock management skills. That's been a glaring fault all year long. UF used to be known as DB U for years. Now they are like missing kids on a milk carton. Tough 1st year, gets a pass considering what Cousin Eddie left this place with. Next year better show some improvement, like beating UK and Vandy for chissakes.

For most of the season we played with better discipline, not too many penalties. That changed the last 3 games. I also think he needs to look at his staff and hire a special teams coach.

…but if we’re patient…

I don't think you need to be patient in today's time though, portal the shit out of it to provide a stop gap for a yr. We got Benson, Johnny Wilson, our RG, Verse, Bethune (LB) ,Pittman, and Turnetine (all started against UF) in the portal last yr. It has decent players in it these days. It gives a yr for the younglings to develop

We usually let you have a little hope in the first half before we destroy your hopes and dreams and you go out and tank the rest of the season.

It does us no good to fire and hire once again. I am convinced we need to allow Billy time unless there is a sure fire 100% homerun hire which there isn’t out there. This program needs long term fixing and we picked Billy to do it.

If he doesn’t go out and get a legit OC this program won’t sniff top 10 play anytime soon. A pro OC would be a good hire. I also think the DC needs to be a guy w pro or sec experience.

Numbers,

IMO, it takes longer for OL to develop than any other position.

So any development in the OL will have to come from players already on the team, or from the portal.

Few good OL in the portal; we have 2 OL Coaches - better for them to develop what we have than waste schollys on transfers who may (or may not) be better.

Gators only have 3 OL in this class; so not exactly loaded with OL talent; all 3 were considered good (not great) players in HS.
We will have to see how they turn out in 2 or 3 years.

Possible we add 1 more - Caden Jones - who will need to develop.

2 OT - Bryce Lovett & Roderick Kearney
1 IOL - Knijeah Harris

What scares me a little is 2 of those starters were from his former school. That is why I doubt we get more than about 3 starters in the portal with one probably being the QB. We will probably pick up just a few starters and a few for depth imo.

The Bama brand of cheating that Kirby brought is now outmoded. We'll see where you are when the current bunch of pre-NIL guys are gone. Congrats on one (maybe two) Bama-style titles.
NIL hasn’t stopped the train from rolling. It is crazy out there for sure but I’m not sure I agree with your take. The NIL rats are jumping off the aTm ship and headed for places like Athens. Smoke Bouie , I think, will be the first.

He's a real winner...... will fit right in with UGA

I think Napier was cautious with the portal last season. Lots of unknowns for him. He needs to get busy for sure, as we will need to snag several more than we did last year.
