Report: UF to widen coaching search

I think that if Kelly isn't signed by Sunday, they have no choice. Once the season is over all the other schools in need of a coach will be talking to all of the coaches who they want to pursue. Gators can't sit back and wait on Kelly to make a decision while all the other good candidates are getting gobbled up. And I'm sure UF has given him some kind of deadline to make a decision and I'm sure he understands the reasons.

Hell I could wrote that story! That is just click bait. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to assume that we start reaching out to other coaches after their seasons end this weekend.

It’s call due diligence Forde?

Widening the search can only mean one thing:

A decided schematic advantage is comin' our way.

If Kelly isn't announced by Tuesday after the FSU game I think we could possibly be in trouble. Trying to keep the faith however.

We’ll report just now saying Kevin Sumlin going to be fired after LSU game this Saturday… IMHO I would like to see Sumlin here at UF be it a HC or as an assistant…

Btw This was just talked about on the SEC NETWORK… They said some TX newspaper is reporting it…

A&M scares me about Kelly because they would probably give him anything he asks for with no trouble. I actually think they are a much bigger threat to us than UCLA when it comes to Kelly.

Just now from Football Scoop/

Chip Kelly: Multiple sources tell FootballScoop UCLA’s contingent has met with Chip Kelly. We also are told in addition to Florida and UCLA, another program has contacted Kelly’s representatives to discuss possibilities should an opening occur at their University.
----------------------------------------------

Unbelievable - We better hope he wants to come here over A&M

To me the big advantage UCLA has is that he can just run over a bunch of cupcakes every year on his way to 11 wins and a playoff spot. Why would he want to play Bama every year to just get to the conference championship? I also think aTm is the hardest place to recruit of the three. Not that it’s bad, but he’d get whoever he wants at UF or UCLA.

Meh idk about all that. When USC is good they're getting the cream of the crop in Cali. Then you also have Washington who is back, Oregon who will likely be ascending soon, etc. Schools like Michigan and ND also have big brands in Cali. He'd do well at UCLA but not only is he second fiddle in his own city he's second fiddle at his own school.

You don’t think he’d be in the PAC 12 championship more often than not? Kim Helton barely beat Jim Mora last weekend. And Washington got beat by 30 at Cal. Kelly would run that conference at UCLA.

Oregon has the #6 class right now coming

He might be in most often at UF. You get SEC cred but get to play in the terrible East and your regular West matchup is coached by Ed Orgeron for the foreseeable future.

This is more about where Kelly WANTS to go rather than where we, as Gator fans, think he should go. We all rationalize from a Gator bias perspective. Kelly is from New Hampshire and was most successful at Oregon. In the NFL he coached in the NE and on the West Coast. He has ZERO connection to the South and it may not be his cup of tea. I have no inside knowledge at all, but prefer to believe that our UAA has vetted him and reached out to him with a generous offer. That's all we can do. He is a multi-millionaire and has millions more due him from the NFL. It's now up to where he wants to spend the next several years of his life because he's already wealthy and is going to be made even more wealthy wherever he goes. But whoever gets the job better be highly motivated and ready to work hard at recruiting and rebuilding this program. Otherwise, they will fail no matter what kind of reputation that had coming in.

Yep. If we don’t get him it’s not because Stricklin didn’t know the magic words. Doesn’t sound like there’s much more he can do.

Definitely think he'd get there a decent amount of times, they have a ceiling though even at their height though. Gonna be hard to maintain when your own school doesn't even see you as a priority.

Living in LA vs living in Gainesville or College Station.

I doubt that means crap to him. He is married to his job. I remember reading someone went to his house since he has been divorced for years and it was empty as hell with just a TV and couch in it. He probably lives at the facility mostly even in the offseason.

This doesn't really matter for coaches. This isn't me or you. Or some athlete or entertainer. In that case yea choose LA. But all the things that would come with LA...Hollywood lifestyle, women, exclusive fame, etc. isn't going to be enjoyed by a college coach. Isn't like Kelly or any other coach is gonna be attending parties in the Hollywood hills with models and actresses the week of a game. And if he did, he'd get fired. See Sark and his drinking problems. Plus, most universities are in rural areas.

There is no other play for Kelly. When is everybody gonna figure this out and stop reacting to the media in the way they are trying to get you to. Wait ‘til Sunday night. If you aren’t clear by then, you have a right to react emotionally. Until then, just cool it.

Tuesday is my deadline to get really nervous. A&M has me a little nervous however.

So, you want us to believe he didnt meet with UCLA yesterday? Ok cool.

If we don't land Kelly...all of UF should fired. Give up on the power and being in a winner.
That is harsh and sort sighted. It CK does not come, it wont be because we were out bid on any level. It will be because that is what CK wants.

I personally think that Texas boy Chad Morris makes the most sense for aTm.

Not only this, but nobody gives a crap about college football in LA. more like 8th fiddle in his own city

Saban won’t last forever. A power vacuum is coming in the SEC, and Kelly would have had a couple of years to build the roster and get ready to step into the breach.

That's one way to look at it. What would you put the over\under on Saban retiring, 5 years? I might bet the over. Who knows, maybe Kelly wants to come in and beat Saban. But looking at it pragmatically, I'd be looking at the easiest route to the conference championship every year. Which honestly, might be UF. The SECEast is probably worse than the Pac-12 South (USC, Zona, ASU and Utah).

It doesn't sound like Kelly really cares about that. He's a crazily private guy, so it might suit him better. From the USA Today article I posted in the other thread:

"While Florida is considered by many to be the best available job, Kelly has never been pegged as a conventional thinker. UCLA might appeal to Kelly for several reasons, including its location in the prime recruiting area of Southern California, a lesser spotlight compared to the fishbowl-like attention of the SEC jobs, and his familiarity with the Pac-12."

Who knows? I'm just saying that UCLA is a more attractive job, in this circumstance, than a lot of people give it credit for.

Has tennis-sea signed Jon Gruden to a contract yet?
I read that cow-Chip Kelly has already turned down their job offer...:p

And Strictlin, please let the cow-Chip return to the Left Coast where he belongs, among the LAC-12's of the world. Getting into a 'fools' bidding $$$ war with UCLA for this old, tired and tried turd is,,, or will eventually be,,, a mistake.
While the cow-Chip may have the 'biggest name' on the list, I still believe that Scott Frost is the 'best available coach' on the list. o_O

Under the iG 'Just Food for Thought' category: ;)
Co-Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator - Strong
Co-Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator - Sumlin
The New & Improved version of SS coaching.... :D

Exactly.

If he takes the UF job, he is going to be a "big celebrity" in Gainesville. In LA, there are literally thousands of people who are more famous than him. If he likes being private and anonymous while walking around town, LA is the obvious choice.

But that still makes little sense. LA is the second largest media market in the country and one of the largest in the world. UCLA just spent 12 million to make an underachieving coach go away so if Kelly goes there he's going there with big expectations, he isn't gonna be under the radar. You're telling me its easier to be private in LA where there are companies like TMZ actively looking to dig up dirt and paparazi everywhere than it is in Gainesville? I find that hard to believe. The darkest secrets are usually buried in the smallest of places. Think about it. Kelly could be insulated from the media at UF, he'll get no such protection in LA.
