Possible bowl game opponents for UF

I doubt it affects recruiting at all this class but doing good for some years probably helps in the long run. I doubt any recruit would care much if we lose to Michigan in a bowl game this season.

I remember always hearing years ago during the Spurrier/Bowden era that beating FSU would help a lot there and then we would always fare about the same it seemed while FSU kept getting slightly better classes except for maybe a 2 year span Zook helped bring in a lot of the players as an assistant. We probably matched FSU those 2 recruiting classes despite not beating them on the field.

You say that same line quiet a bit but fail to realize that we possibly got some recruits that were torn between the two. Just because they got "slightly better" classes doesn't mean we didn't beat them out for some guys. How worse would it have been if we never won anything matchups against them during that time span you are talking about.

That was one of our glory runs, quit dwelling on that a neighbor was on their glory run at the same time.

You need to be very careful when you start comparing our “glory days” with an FSU “glory run.”

An FSU “glory run” is a totally different thing...

It seemed to always be about the same except for a couple of classes during years we lost that led to the 95/96 players and Spurrier got the best of FSU those 2 years. I remember reading a few times where they broke down the recruiting of those teams the Spurrier/Bowden years even looking at the pro-stuff afterwards and they definitely had better classes usually. I bet if talent was equal every year that Spurrier would have won at least 65% of those games instead of winning less than 40%.

Does part of that 40% include the first 4 years of the series where Spurrier's started off 1-3-1 installing a totally new offense and recruiting to a senior class that fit his system vs an FSU team that had Bobby Bowden at the helm 14-18 seasons whom had a decade and a half to establish his players, system, and recruiting base.

I guess I look at the glass half full and not half empty. I look at the 90's as we hired a badass cowboy that came in, took over the SEC and prevented FSU from being a bigger legacy than what they were during the 90's and early 00's. How many titles would FSU have won if the Gators didn't upset them. How many titles would FSU have won if Spurrier wouldn't have been around to recruit and sign players like Errict Rhett, Qzzie Green, Doug Johnson, Lito Sheppard, Jabar Gaffney, Reche Caldwell, Reidel Anthony, Fred Taylor, Earnest Graham, etc. ?

I'm glad we now have Dan Mullen who can come in and develop a roster, who can put together a scheme and game plan, and who can recruit good.and great players. Who will have a hand in preventing UGA from pulling a run similar to what Saban/Bama have went on the last 9 years.

If UGA wins two Natty's and we win one within the next decade...20 years from now I'm not going to be worried about what percent could have been if this and that happened. I'm going to be happy we hired Badass Dan Mullen who kept UGA's legacy run to a minimum. I'm not going to dwell on 4-6 and two titles. I'm going to be happy we didn't go 1-9 and UGA racked 3,4,5, or 6 national titles.

I just laugh at FSU fans that act like the record those years had something to do with Bowden's coaching ability. Believe it or not I think we only directly blocked each other from National Championship games/chances like one time each because of how teams were locked into certain bowls back then.

Maybe on the field we blocked each other once but think about what could have been won had we not had so many H2H recruiting battles. Urban pretty much dominated the recruiting scene during his short tenure here. It led to two title games. Jimbo had his recruiting victories and it led to a championship and a playoff bid.

Spurrier and Bowden prevented more titles between the two by taking recruits from one another. Smart could possibly do so to Saban and hopefully Mullen does so to Smart and all else.
