1. Big Ten champion

2. SEC champion

3 ACC champion

4. G5 Boise St (also gets a BYE)

5. Big 12 champion

6. Notre Dame 11-1

7. Big Ten runner-up: PSU 11-2 or 12-1 Oregon

8. Tennessee 10-2 (SEC 3rd place)

9. Indiana 11-1 (3rd place)

10. SEC runner-up: 11-2 Texas or 10-3 UGA

11. Ohio State 10-2 (4th place)

12. SEC? Probably, a 9-3 4th place Bama?

(Or 11-2 ACC runner-up SMU, should Clemson win ACC…remember SMU went undefeated in a P4 conference 8-0, and will enter the ACC championship game, probably ranked #8 or maybe #7, w/only loss was to a then-top 10 BYU team by 3 points.

BOTTOM LINE: THEY ARE GOING TO BE SEVERAL 9-3 SEC TEAMS (& 8-4 A&M, who was dumb enough to play Notre Dame) LEFT OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS

AND OBVIOUSLY THE ACC CHAMP & LIKELY BOISE STATE GET A FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF BYE

It could’ve been worse: the SEC is lucky that there was some parody near the top of the big 12 and they all gave each other two losses each.
If there was a big 12 team that finished the regular season 12-0: they would likely be in the playoffs, no matter what, even if they lose in the big 12 championship game to finish 12-1 and take up that 12th spot.

WE NEED 16 !!!!!!

There would be some great first round matchups: EVEN 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15 and 3 vs 14 could all be awesome.

I agree with this. With the new conference alignment it's going to be very difficult for SEC teams to go undefeated in conference play. Not to mention teams are taking on difficult non conference games. 1 loss in today's world is better than undefeated in the past.

Also: with no more playoff byes: even though I agree that the conference champions and the highest ranked G5 team should be included automatically: the teams need to be seeded one through 16 based on the actual playoff rankings.

Imagine in these types of games in the first round alone:

Arizona State vs Oregon
SMU at Texas
Iowa State at Penn State
Indiana at Tennessee
Iowa State at Ohio State
Miami at Georgia

Or for more examples:

a Colorado at Florida

Or an Indiana team playing at Notre Dame

Ohio State playing at Tennessee or vice versa

How about the blue & orange of Boise State against the orange & blue of Florida in Gainesville in early December?

Florida at Clemson or vice versa?

South Carolina at Miami or vice versa?
