You want DeSantis to defend himself from support...meanwhile it was ridiculous when Trump needed to defend himself from support.
FWIW, I thought it was ridiculous that Trump needed to defend himself from support and I think it's ridiculous that some people think DeSantis needs to do it now.

My vote will go to DeSantis and then Trump, in that order, if required. My vote will serve my interests. IMHO, Republicans who don't follow a similar model, with a different order perhaps, are tacitly supporting the opposition.

No reason to blow ammo this soon. There were zero rumors about Trump in 2016 from the media UNTIL he officially won the nomination. They all flipped on him overnight when that happened.
If DeSantis were to somehow win the nomination, they will do the same thing to him. Take away the Trump voters who won't vote for him due to not trusting him and the RINOs that will clutch their pearls and say he's TOO NASTY to vote for, combine those two groups and he has zero chance of being President in 2024.
I really don't understand why everyone here can't see that.

There's one thing you are forgetting: Trump voters in 2016 knew he didn't support white supremacists, we knew it was media BS, so we didn't expect or want him to address the rumors. A complete waste of time AND it encouraged the media to keep doing it.
With DeSantis in 2023, there ARE a significant portion of Trump voters who do not trust DeSantis as we did Trump in 2016.
If we trusted DeSantis now as we did Trump then, then your position would be consistent.
Let me rephrase that....it may be consistent for you, but it's not for a significant portion of Trump's base.
If DeSantis doesn't address our concerns, he likely won't get our votes. And without our votes, he has no chance, even if he wins the nomination. That's just reality.
