Old thinking here. Russia is basically toothless. This is a VERY LARGE Country that cannot even claim military superiority over a VERY small, very weak(compared to our military) Country on its own border...much less take a war over the ocean. Yes..I know they have nukes...but we have more, and better ones, with better defense. To believe that they would use them under these circumstances is like believing that a person would saw a limb off 500 ft in the air, when they are standing on the side that will fall to the ground.

I cannot truly disagree with anything that you said in this post. However, I also can not ignore the parallels from history.

The strategy that you outlined above is exactly the strategy we used over the Sudetenland.

And no, I'm not saying that Putin is exactly like Hitler or anything of the sort. I'm saying that those who don't learn from history....you know how the expression goes.

If we don't respond, or if we hadn't responded, what comes next?

Mostly agree but toothless would have swallowed Ukraine without our weapons. That is also why I am not sure what the hand wringing is about.

I get the kickback to Dems is infuriating but otherwise its weapons and not even our best.

If we would have had boots on the ground before the invasion then Putin stays home.

I dont know if that works with Xi because his strategy is to sink a carrier, overwhelm the island and make the USoA give up before the fight begins.

Taiwan needs big time offensive weapons as in long range missiles, subs and eventually nukes to defend itself. A SEATO org would be a nice org to have as a bulwark against China. Time is running out to box her in and tell her to stick to butter not guns.

Wars are a money-laundering scheme for the dems. A big reason why they don't like Putin is that he doesn't play along with their schemes.

And this is where Trump was right to call them out. They need to put up more money. Their welfare states got subsidized by our military and our spending. They get by with 2% GDP or less. Heck they need to be made to spend 4% like we do. Those turds in Germany are the biggest leeches. Whoever blew up the pipeline made sure they stayed in line.

I get this argument also....but we COULD take the lead, by NOT taking the lead. In other words, STRONGLY encourage Europe to defend THEMSELVES. Again, I am good with NATO intervention. But I am NOT god with us paying for MOST of NATO, when THEY are the Countries in the danger zone. European countries need to do WAY more. Trump was SPOT ON on this...like everything else
