…who’s ready to admit it????

Judgment free zone in this thread…

and they might even win two of their last five to go to a bowl…just sayin’…

sadgator thinks it’s amusing that so many people are gonna be scratching their heads like, “how is Lane Kiffin ever gonna be our coach if the job never comes open!!?!?!?”

I think it depends if he wins one of the next 3 games. I think if he lost all 3 they might not let the Ole Miss game save him as they already have planned for his buyout. Lagway is who is going to save him even if they normally would fire him at 6-6.

You let emotion cloud your judgement. The clown just beat Kentucky for the first time since he was hired? After a bye week we will play Georgia and then travel to Texas, both needing to win out to reach the SECCG. We have no recruiting class to speak of and no one is using the portal to come here. So you do what, bring him back to fire him three weeks into next year.

Better yet sad, let me give you a scenario to slap the reality of current football back into you, let’s say Lagway plays decent down the stretch and we go 6-6 and keep Billy. Then Lagway decides to enter the portal to gauge his value and you start next year with Billy and no Lagway. Wouldn’t that be cool?

Florida is in a nightmare scenario right now.

sadgator isn’t lobbying for or against Billy to stay.

Just observing it play out

He isn’t getting fired.

And Stricklin doesn’t think he’s a “clown.”
Surprised (well maybe not) that people don't understand you are talking reality rather than personal preference. I said a couple weeks ago the interim president won't do anything because he doesn't want to be the one to clean house, which is what's needed. Not sure why it's taking so long to hire a permanent President. The university (not just the football team) is just treading water waiting for a new leader.

Just looking at the season as a whole. No one really expected Miami and Texas A&M to be as good as they are. It is true we were not in either game. But the improvement in the defense is undeniable. The Tennessee game slipped away due to some questionable game management. I said before this game I thought the team would rally around DJ. It’s going to be very interesting in JAX in two weeks.
Could the “process” finally be taking hold?

I doubt Napier could overcome 4 straight losses even with the Lagway situation. I think the big boosters pull the trigger then especially if someone like Kiffin would take the job.

I was talking reality too.

I understand what you're saying @sadgator. Scott Stricklin seems to have tied himself to Napier and won't pull the trigger himself. And right now there's nobody in charge to make it happen. I honestly like Billy Napier - just truly believe he's over his head in Gainesville. The best we can finish, IMO, is 6-6 and that's IF we beat both Ole Miss and FSU, neither a given. There's no way we're going to beat Georgia, Texas or LSU. Maybe nothing will happen until and unless the big money people quit writing checks. I remain a fan of all Gator sports - players, coaches, support staff, etc. Watch and pull for them all no matter how good they are. Been doing that since the early sixties when I was 10 or so. The older I get, the more I realize there are much more important things going on than to get too upset about sports. But it does bother me how the football program has gotten to where it is now. No reason it should have happened.

I don't disagree with you Sad. In my own humble opinion, 6-6 he definitely keeps his job, 5-7 it would depend on how competitive we were getting to 5-7. I'm on board the Michi train though in that he needs to go. I get that we would lose some kids to the portal that we don't want to lose, but we might lose them anyway.

If we fire him before Ole Piss then we know the move. Or we can Muschamp this and bring him back for 3-4 games next year because he is “nice”.

Billy is a high character guy who works his tail off bringing in players with great character and work ethic. I would love for him to succeed but he has to acknowledge a few things. He can’t do it all. Hire an OC please. It’s obvious the players love him. Just do it.
Mullin was a great OC but one stubborn, ornery SOB who refused to acknowledge 3rd and Grantham was KILLING a National Contender team from going to the playoff. His arrogance and jackassness regarding that is why he is gone. You can't win and compete when you are playing with half a deck of cards. Napier is buttheaded and it will be his ending, he can't do the clock management and game situational stuff worth a shit, I don't care how much "character" he has. You've got to be a guru, a tyrant, and a friend to your team at the same time. He's missing on some of these cylinders.

IF…IF we win 2 out of the next 4…he staying and recruiting will pick up. Many including myself thought that TN was going to route us and KY would probably beat us. There is no dominate team in the SEC. Texas and UGA have holes in their game. I’m not saying that we are going to win. But those guys can be beat if we play the way that we have the last couple of weeks we have a fighters chance.

I don’t think Napier is the answer but I see us winning 2 more games this year.

It would be a TALL order, no doubt, and sadgator might be out of his mind, but like GN‘79, sadgator sees weaknesses and vulnerabilities in all teams. Florida is certainly capable of hanging with the better teams. At some point, they’re gonna catch somebody good on an off day and take advantage. sadgator is still ambivalent about Napier, but no one can deny that the team as a whole plays it’s ass off for him. That’s at least something good.

What do you do with a guy who can recruit like a madman but can't coach a lick? Hmmm..........seems like I remember a guy like that, his name was Ron Zook. Zook couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag, but he handed Urban Meyer a full cupboard when he arrived here. I think Karl has recruited some diamonds, but he has no idea how to polish them.

I think we have a real good chance to beat LSU at home. I think that is a defense Lagway could carve up possibly. Of course our defense would have to play alright also.

This may be true but unlike Mullen he recruits year round🤣

The way that our defense is played the last couple of games, I haven't seen us play like that in years. Kids are flying around the ball, we're getting pressure on the QB. We're stopping runs, getting take aways and tackling people. I'm not saying this is a great defense but it's like somebody turned on the switch. In fact to me, that's how the entire team looks. This is not the same team that started the year. We literally have gotten better every week since Texas a&m. Hopefully we can keep that up. If so, we can win two more games, maybe three. It seems insane saying that right now, but I'm actually excited to see the Gators play.

CBN will probably go 6-6, and actually have some momentum going and then we’ll fire him and lose Lagway in the process.

Personally, if we go 5-7 but play like we have the last three weeks, and Lagway continues to look good, id keep Napier another year and give him a shot with Lagway against a reasonable schedule.

The 2025 schedule isn't much easier than 2024 - USF, @Miami, FAMU, Georgia in Jax, FSU, Miss. St., Tennessee, Texas, @Kentucky, @LSU, @Ole Miss, @Texas A&M.

Actually, we are going backwards on the momentum train even with the HUGE, job saving victory over 3-4 Kentucky.

Lost our third highest rated recruit, dropping us to a very competitve 51st ranking. We do however only fall to 15th out of 16 in the SEC maintaining our lead over Vandy. And the zero OL commits should do us well.

There is zero momentum around this program, zero. Fire him this year, or 3 weeks into next year and waste another part of a year, it doesn’t matter, Billy will not be a winning coach here.

If Billy Bro beats Uga, I may go streaking down my street......will wait until after midnight, natch, haha.

We always have a tough schedule and the east is stronger than it's been in a long time. Tough schedule, big expectations, you better win and compete for the conference championship... That's UF.

As nuts as it would have sounded 2 weeks ago, Napier has a legitimate path to keeping his job. I wouldn't give it a high percentage but beat 1 of the next 2 games, take out ol miss and stomp FSU would for sure do it, regardless of what ppl think.

Georgia is probably a loss - not sure TX is as good as I thought a week ago and Ole Miss drops games they should win all the time. We'll see - I doubt it but we're about to find out lol.

kentucky was still smothering all of our routes like they do every year in Napiers system, Lagway was just simply creating 1 on 1 situations and throws that only an NFL QB can make.. Imagine what he could do with a system with guys running free all the time and a balanced attack, insert any of the likely candidates for next year and Lagway could be your heisman winner as a sophomore. The INT he threw was the WR's fault from breaking off from his seam concept the same route DJ just hit him just before that was almost a TD. There's enough talent on the roster to compete until the recruiting picks back up, but not with Napier. It's like everyone just completely forgot about the Tennessee disaster already that was ONE HUNDRED PERCENT entirely on the head coach. As bad as the schedule was perceived to be this year, if we had a different coach we'd have one loss at worst right now and be a legitimate contender for playoff as of now. UF needs a competent staff, and they need competent people to be able to hire one. We can't stay in this cycle of non football people making football decisions. If we can't pull a Kiffin or even Franklin away from where they are this year why would we be able to do it next year when more major jobs will come open?

I will just say I might not agree with it but if we go 6-6 I think Napier might survive...

No matter how great Lagway is and will be.. he ain't worth keeping Napier around, period.
I disagree. As we have seen these coaches come and go. You only get a few great great qbs in a school’s history and they can literally carry a program for two years. Look at FSU. They were a championship contender with Travis and now they’re worse than us. Lagway is a huge huge factor in what we do next year. Close to No 1.
