Just curious...why?If it’s Norvell I’ll stop donating and will stop playing in the coaches golf tournament every year.
Frost at UCF put up good defensive stats to go with his explosive offense. What non P5 coach has put up exceptional defensive stats?
He has personally tried to recruit defensive players. It just isn't as simple as stated. He went out and hired an improved DC. The best his budget would allow.
So how does "he care less about defense"?
Honestly I'd rather not hype him. I'd hate to see him leave Memphis and I'd especially hate to see him improve FSU.
So yeah he sucks horribly. He hates defense. He hates special teams...especially the kick return aspect of the game. He even hates offense. Honestly he hates coaching and football. You Nole fans would be down right ignorant to get him. He sucks so bad.
By the way, besides internet rumors...what the fvck are these red flags. You believe the gambling problems? Yeah sure...that same year he turned down a pay raise to use it to pay his staff. The same year of this supposed "casino debt" is the same time frame he built a lake home in the Arkansas Ozark.
What person in a debt turns down a raise and gets funding to build a vacation home.
Honestly all the dude does is spend any spare minute with his wife and little daughter. Plays with his dog. Eats like a hippie health nut and excercises his ass off. Yall take run rumor off the interwebs and run a marathon with it. He's the most straight edge dude in college football.

He sounds like a pu$$y. He will quit playing in a golf tournament. Whoaaaa how manly.
These two are about as short sighted as it comes.
1. When you are the level of booster I am you have to fill out a contract so that they can include your yearly donation as part of the annual budget. And if you think playing in that golf tournament is inexpensive you are factually wrong. You vote with your team through donations and money. If they stop coming that’s how you vote your lack of approval with how things run.
Do you really think that Taggart would have been removed when he did if donations and attendance, which equals revenue didn’t drop to an all time low in the past 30 years?
2. So we are to take your internet fodder as fact and ignore others? Just because you have the state Tennessee in your moniker it hardly makes you an expert on the personal life of the Memphis head football coach. I live in Florida doesn’t make me an expert on Mullen.
3. Having a gambling issue does not mean that one is in significant debt. And while it is internet fodder, I would rather the candidate for my alma mater not have that tied to him. Especially seeing as there are other schools that have mentioned it.
But I am sure i can await a long winded response about how I am wrong.
Norvell's a whiny nole fan?
Seriously!? What's up w/ the hostility?
Whoa! Our cafeteria isn't staffed appropriately for that hire.

This probably made sense in your head.
I'm aware, just re-read the response, though.No... The poster you potato head

In the AAC. I think he’s a pretty good coach but Scott Frost, Justin Fuente & Butch Jones are recent coaches that had much success in that same conference as well and are now struggling or have been fired. Norvell is no Scott Frost either. Granted the ACC is not a very tough conference so that makes the transition a little easier.Unfortunately word on the streets are you are going to have to put your golf clubs in the corner of the garage to collect dust.
Unfortunately for Gator fans we are going to have to face a fast offense that showcases speed.
How good can he recruit at a high profile school? Thats to be determined. However player development and evaluation will be off the charts.
My uncle played basketball at Memphis in the late 80's. He worked in the admin for years and is now a member of the basketball staff. My son worked got his schooling paid for under both Fuente and Norvell. I took post graduate classes at the school. My fiance graduated from there. I've coached select league with a handful of baseball players who continued their careers at the school. I worked closely with Jenny Fuente and later befriended Mike Norvell. Never claimed to be besties but I know the guy and his family well enough. Therefore for the last 10 years I have attended nearly every home game. Went to a few road games. Went to most bowl games. Been a part of their booster club the Highland Hundred.
Why you don't want the guy is hilarious. Honestly I hope he doesn't take the job. FSU offense will explode. Will probably produce a Heisman winner. The guy is one year removed from losing his near 2000 yard rusher Darrell Henderson. Losing his record setting kick returner and multi use TD maker in Tony Pollard. For most of the season he was without his 1000 yard rusher Patrick Taylor. He lost his athletic TE Sean Dykes. He lost the player who played the Tony Pollard role in Pop Williams early in the season. He replaced his OC, DC, and multiple other assistant coaches. However he didn't skip a beat. Hell he actually improved. He made RSFreshman Kenny Gainwell into an All American. He made Antonio Gipson a former JUCO nobody wanted into a playmaker. He took a kid off the track team and turned him into a playmaker in Calvin Austin III. He had 3 different players return kicks for TD's this season. He has had 5 different kick returners return a kick for a TD in 3 years.
If defense concerns you...study the factors that Austin Hall, Bryce Huff, O'Bryan Goodson, Sanchez Blake, Jonathan Wilson, Joey Dorceus, Chris Clsybrooks, and TJ Carter were.
Honestly I'm not trying to convince you. To tell the truth I downright hate it...however unlike you my reasons are that FSU has the potential to be scary good again.
No damn school put out any true information of Norvell being a gambler. It was Ole Miss fans that were shunned they got turned down by a coach at "little brother". They have some snobby complex that they can get anybody they want from the G5 because "they are SEC". Arkansas thought they could get him because his wife's family is connected to the school. Truth be told he knew both of those programs(along with Miss State) were train wreck dead end jobs. He made the comment of how his friend Chad Morris jumped the gun, left a school with Cinderella potential, and would be looking for a new job in 2 years. He was spot on. Mike Norvell was waiting on the right job. FSU unfortunately may be just that.
Honestly I hope you are hitting the course riding in a cart behind Monty Jr.
Only because he lost H2H against Frost. One of those games went right down to the wire.In the AAC. Norvell is a good offensive coach but could care less about the defensive side of the ball. He’s also never coached in a P5 conference before. Would be a bit of a risky hire IMO but not sure there are a heck of a lot of good choices out there.
There is also of course the rumored red flags that surround him.
Im not comparing head to head of Frost to Norvell. Im looking at what Frost did at a program that was 0-11 when he took over. Norvell is not in the same ball park as Frost.Only because he lost H2H against Frost. One of those games went right down to the wire.
You are comparing Florida recruits vs mid south recruits. Much easier at UCF.
You are right Fuente, Frost, Jones...TAGGART...Herman. But then there is Matt Rhule.
Honestly Fuente has Va Tech in better position than the downhill era of Beamer. Va Tech has always been average with the exception of the all world Vick and a few sprinkled in years here and there.
Roll the dice...will he be a Rhule or a Taggart?
@PacoGator19 let me edit. Its debatable how superior Frost is to Norvell. H2H your decision? So Smart>Mullen? Regardless, we've all discussed Frost took a job its hard to win at. You made that point yesterday. We all know why Frost took that job. It was home. I still think Frost can win elsewhere. If you have 1/2 a brain you can win easy at FSU. Nebraska...not so much.
Dont you think that is the exception and not the rule? There isn’t a lot of Urban Meyer’s out there for one.Jimbo was never a p5 coach before??? MEYER was never a p5 coach before he got his opportunity. Most coaches dont start out as p5 coaches. Most schools hire from within, hell look at OU, UM, OSU... All inside hires. Its rare for a p5 coach to go to another p5 school. It just doesnt happen a lot. The only way they do is if they have ties to tye school like Mullen to UF or if little Stoops came back here from Kentucky.
Also, i think its unfair to say he doesnt care at all about the defense because he actually went outside his coaching tree this yr to hire his defensive coordinator. Is he offensive minded? Yes.
With all that said, do i think Norvell is the answer....no.
Dont you think that is the exception and not the rule? There isn’t a lot of Urban Meyer’s out there for one.
Also we have differing opinions on Jimbo Fisher. I think he is about as overrated as it gets when it comes to a head coach. So IMO not a good example throwing his name out there but I digress. I think Jimbo is a pretty good coach but highly overrated and highly overpaid and he’s not going to be that successful at A&M.
We can agree to disagree but the ACC isn’t and wasnt any good and the rivals in UF and Miami weren’t any good during his time at FSU either. He was 83-23 at FSU with a 29 game win streak, an undefeated season with a national title, undefeated against our rivals except UM the last yr, top 5 recruiter, at FSU he was undefeated against the SEC including in a National title game.....
Once his home life went to shit he was not the same. I dont think hes the same guy/coach. This new Jimbo is just good but he was elite for awhile.

Thats debatable. Memphis was dead to the world in college football. Sure Fuente kick started it. Norvell took it and ran with it.Im not comparing head to head of Frost to Norvell. It was a cultural problem that Frost quickly turned around. Now schools like Miss St and UCF are not quite doing as good as before. Wonder why??Thats debatable. Memphis was dead to the world in college football. Sure Fuente kick started it. Norvell took it and ran with it.
Two years before the 0-11 season...they were 12-1 and won the Fiesta. It was some internal problem left behind by O'Leary...not a talent problem.
Im hoping for a Benny Hill coach hiring extravaganza ending with their 9th choice a la Tennessee.I didn’t think FSU’s promise to finish the season on Saturday, sign a coach the Sunday after, and introduce yesterday was going to happen
That bespeaks of ignorance and impatience, both of which aren’t good signs of a coaching search, especially in light of the last disasterous hire
They better lock this down, and quit talking about it. The more information that they slip out to the media after failing this deadline, the more they’ll look desperate

Yes Memphis was a mess. In Fuente’s last 2 years he finished 9-3 and 10-3. In 2 of the 4 years at Memphis Norvell has done worse than that and 1 year he lost 3 games. This is Norvell’s first year where he’s done better than Fuente. I don’t think this is the hire for FSU. Based on Norvell’s record/resume it isn’t exactly a hire that will create much buzz. One really good year out of four?
Norvell 10-2 regular season 2018 10-3 overall. Fuente's best season 10-3 2014. Only two losses in regular season in 18 were to UCF.
Scott Frost 13-0 2018. Josh Heupel 12-1. Frost beat a good Auburn team. Heupel lost to an LSU team that is nearly the same team as this year. UCF didn't fall as far as MSU. They went 9-3 with the lone ugly loss being Tulsa.
So basically Scott Frost had one good year.
Not sure what splash hire is out there other than BGB, Brian Kelly, Urban, or possibly James Franklin.

Agreed. I think Mendenhall is pretty good.Norvell could definitely end up being good, but on paper it would be a C+ hire for a program like FSU. There are coaches within FSU's own conference that FSU could realistically get that would be better hires. Bronco Mendenhall & Dave Clawson come to mind.
