It's seriously disturbing just how little love and respect Bobby Bowden is getting in this coaching search. If he's not one of the leading candidates, who the smegging hell is running the clown show anyways?

Urban Meyer came from a G5 school as well when we hired him.
Its all a crap shoot. Unless you get one from a top tier program to come to you, you never know how it will pan out.
Unfortunately it worked for UGA hiring a coordinator. Clemson hired a position coach from within and its worked. Nebraska hired a favorite son...it hasn't worked so far. UCLA hired a guy who had success in the conference, didn't do bad in the NFL, and he hasn't panned out just yet. LSU hired a coordinator from within...its worked. Texas A&M plucked from an upper P5 school. Its yielded no better results than Sumlin.
Agreed but they missed or passed on Mark Stoops, Matt Campbell, Matt Rhule, Bronco Mendenhall, Lane Kiffin, Dave Clawson to get a Mike Norvell?? Norvell’s resume is less impressive than Jim McEkwain’s.
Not an impressive hire on the surface. I mean he certainly isn’t going to be as bad as Taggart but not overy impressive of a hire at all.
Matt Campbell passed the job up. He doesn't want the pressure. He has a cozy job in Ames. You yourself admitted in post Mark Stoops chokes. Dude is so overrated. You bring up red flags(zero which are proven) about Norvell but bring up Lane Kiffin. Clawson honestly that much better than Norvell?
Matt Rhule and Bronco Mendenhall are badasses. That I'll give you.
But this hire by FSU scares the piss out of me. If he recruits even a consistent #10 ranked class, he will develop these players into a championship caliber team like Bobby had them. Dude is just cut from a hell of a cloth that spews with greatness.
We can just agree to disagree. Mark Stoops does choke but he also has done a great job at UK in a P5 conference.
I do think Norvell is much better than Taggart for sure but this hire doesn’t really move the needle for me. Unless some dude just rips it up in a non-P5 conference like an Urban Meyer did then this is a gamble for a school such as a UF or FSU to hire a coach that hasn’t been a head coach in a P5 environment and has done just good at Memphis but also took over for a guy in Fuente that did all the building.
Again just think Mark Stoops, Campbell, Mendenhall, Rhule and some others have much more impressive resumes than Norvell.
I'll agree about Rhule, and Bronco. Campbell as well. As stated how do we know Campbell wants to leave his high paying cozy job?
To me Stoops is average and has proven average. One decent year when he caught UF on a slip. Despite all that he lost to Jeremy Pruett...twice.
If Stoops last name was Johnson he wouldn't even be in this conservation.
If MN gets the job, save this post. Watch their S&C program be off the charts, watch the players achieve academic success, and watch them be loaded with speed at nearly all skill positions, and lastly watch their special teams be lights out.
What he did this year with losing key players to graduation and the NFL and later losing key players to injury is crazy. Not to mention losing 75% of his staff including both coordinators.

Evidently Campbell only wants a Big 10 job. Supposedly he's a little too "Leave it to Beaver" to fight the recruiting battles down south. No one besides Bob Stoops and maybe Franklin have been offered the job.

Its a handshake agreement from what we are told. We wanted to hire a coach last Monday but since we didnt, the feeling is its because hes coaching in a championship game this weekend.

For selfish reasons I hope FSU does offer Kiffin. Norvell has done a good job at Memphis and if he coaches here next season would think Memphis will be really good again with another chance to be undefeated or close to it
But, with the level of chatter out there seems surprising he has not said anything in order to keep complete focus on Cincinnati.
