Gianna Monaco logged a hat-trick and Frannie Hahn dished out four assists in the loss.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The fifth-ranked Florida lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 14-9 to the third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels at Donald R. Dizney Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Gators never led in this contest, trailing by three goals at halftime and getting the deficit down to as little as two in the third quarter. Five different UF players logged goals, headlined by Gianna Monaco with three, followed by Kaitlyn Davies and Josie Hahn, who tallied two goals each. Ava Tighe and Gabby Greene each had one goal.

UF logged five assists on the day, as Frannie Hahn passed out a career best four assists, along with one from Jordan Basso. The Tar Heels were led by Chloe and Ashley Humprey, with Chloe registering five goals and Ashley compiling nine points on three goals and six assists.

It was a competitive game, with the Gators losing the shot (31-28), draw control (15-10), ground ball (20-14) and caused turnover (11-9) battles by narrow margins. Riley Zusi led the team with three draw controls, Theresa Bragg led the way with three caused turnovers while Celeste Forte and Ashley Dyer both tallied three ground balls.

The saves battle was even at 8-8, as Georgia Hoey and Elyse Finnelle each tallied four saves in the contest.

How It Happened

First Quarter

* The Tar Heels struck first with back-to-back Chloe Humphrey scores to give them a 2-0 lead with 10:59 left.
* The Gators got on the board with 9:44 remaining off a Monaco score from Frannie Hahn (man-up) to bring it back to 2-1. UNC scored two goals to end the quarter, as the Gators trailed 4-1 after one.
Second Quarter

* The Hahn sister kicked off the second quarter scoring, as Frannie fed Josie down near the crease for the man-up score to make the score 4-2 with 12:30 left.
* UNC scored with 9:37 left followed by two UF goals. Davies scored on a strong dodge (6:52) and Greene was found by Frannie Hahn on the man-up with 5:18 remaining to bring the Gators within one goal (5-4).
* The Tar Heels scored two unassisted goals in the final 2:24 of the half, to give them a 7-4 cushion heading into the locker room.
Third Quarter

* Ashley Humphrey seemingly scored with 11:33 remaining, before a video review took away the goal due to a dangerous follow through, resulting in a yellow card. The Gators took advantage on the man-up, as Frannie Hahn found Davies for the score for the two-goal swing to cut the deficit to 7-5 with 10:51 left.
* The two teams then exchanged scores, with the Gators score coming from Monaco on the free-position. With the score 8-6, UNC rallied off three straight goals to end the quarter giving them a 11-6 lead after three.
Fourth Quarter

* UNC struck first with 13:08 left on the man-up to give them the largest lead of the game at 12-6.
* 2:15 later, Florida answered off a Basso to Josie Hahn connection, bringing the deficit back to five.
* Following a Tar Heels goal, the Gators scored two consecutive goals, courtesy of Monaco and Tighe, giving UF a shot down 13-9 with 5:33 left.
* UF was unable to convert on two opportunities to cut the UNC lead to three in the final five minutes. The Tar Heels scored with 2:31 remaining, to seal a 14-9 victory.
