New DL Coach Chris Rumph from Texas

Anyone have any updates on this? I see articles implying the deal is done and then some saying it's not done. Just curious if anyone here has more info.

I'd like to figure out if its a done deal or not too. This keeps happening to us, I hope its just been this last year and doesn't continue

"It's a done deal! Official"

Linky....?

GAINESVILLE, Fla.-Chris Rumph has been named the defensive line coach for the Florida football team, head coach Jim McElwain announced on Friday. Rumph replaces Terrell Williams, who accepted a coaching position with the Miami Dolphins.

"Chris and I obviously have some experience working together from our days at Alabama," said McElwain. "He joins a group of like thinkers on our staff and is someone who will positively affect our players' lives - both on and off the field."

Chris Rumph

Rumph spent the 2014 season at the University of Texas as the Assistant Head Coach for Defense and Defensive Line Coach. He helped produced one of the best defensive line units in the nation, helping the Longhorns rack up 3.1 sacks per game (11th nationally). Defensive lineman Malcom Brown earned consensus First Team All-America honors and was a finalist for the Nagurski and Outland trophies under Rumph's tutelage.

Prior to his time in Austin, Rumph spent three seasons as the defensive line coach at Alabama under Nick Saban. The Crimson Tide ranked fifth nationally in total defense (286.5 yards per game) in 2013 and seventh in rush defense (106.2 yards per game).

The previous year, Rumph was a part of Alabama's National Championship team that featured a stout defense, leading the nation in rush defense (76.4 yards per game) and total defense (250.0 yards per game). The Tide also won the BCS title in 2011 with a top-ranked defense, allowing just 183.6 total yards per game, the fewest by an FBS team in records dating to 1996. Alabama also had the top-ranked rush defense, giving up 72.2 yards per game.

In five seasons at Clemson (2006-10), Rumph and the Tigers defense ranked among the top 25 nationally in total and scoring defense each season. In 2010, Rumph coached unanimous All-America defensive end Da'Quan Bowers, who led the nation in sacks (15.5) and was tied for first in tackles-for-loss (26.0). He won both the Nagurski Trophy as the nation's top defensive player, and the Hendricks Award as the nation's top defensive end and was a second-round pick in the NFL Draft by Tampa Bay.

In Rumph's first year with the Tigers, he worked with DE Gaines Adams, who was the fourth overall selection in the 2007 draft by Tampa Bay after receiving unanimous All-America honors as a senior. Adams tallied 12.5 sacks to rank fourth in the nation.

Prior to his stint at Clemson, Rumph was the outside linebackers coach at Memphis for three years (2003-05). Rumph was the defensive backs coach at South Carolina State in 2002, following a five-year stint as head coach at Calhoun County High School in St. Matthews, S.C. He also served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks/running backs coach at Calhoun County.

Born in Orangeburg, S.C., Rumph also played in high school at Calhoun County. He signed with South Carolina and played linebacker from 1991-94, earning his bachelor's degree in 1994. He helped the Gamecocks record their first bowl victory in the 1995 Carquest Bowl. He and his wife, Kila, have two sons, Christopher and Elijah.

In case anyone was curious Chris Rumph has recruited Cece Jefferson and they know each other. Rumph recruited Jefferson while he was at Bama and at Texas.

Just in case Leo tries to throw a tweet out there that they don't know who Rumph is.

Yea but has he signed his LOI and faxed it in? Will he be doing that tomorrow morning?

FWIW this is a pretty big hire. It also isn't easy to just swoop in and take coaches from Texas on a lateral move.

Liking the resume. Real solid hire from the looks of it. Also tells me he has a ton of confidence in coach Mac and the rest of the staff to risk making a lateral move. Maybe he sees a better future at Uf. Or maybe I'm reading wayyy too into it. Either way, like the hire and I think we see CeCe sign in the next day or two

Mac's staff just keeps getting more ridiculous, this is arguably one of the best hires.

Theo, they already know coach Rumph well. Despite what Leo said. Here is what Cece had to say:

"I'm just excited they hired a guy who I have a good relationship with,"
said Jefferson in a text to ITG. "Coach Rumph recruited me to Bama and
Texas."

Do him and McElwain have past connections? Just curious while he is leaving Texas. Maybe he just gets along better with McElwain than with Strong.

McElwain and Rumph coached together at Bama. Rumph is a great recruiter and his territory is usually the state of Florida. UF is the perfect fit for him.

They coached at Alabama together.

apparently we already have one but for some reason it's not been announced

If the coaching carousel keeps going at this pace this year, we may somehow end up with Muschamp back as our D coordinator before we actually start the 2015 season. Grantham up at Louisville... Bobo out at Colorado state. It's been one heck of a shake up this year for coaching staffs especially down here in the Southeast.

Well one positive of Muschamp coming back is that I'd be able to go to the spring game and throw bottles at him.

I thought your grades were kind of odd - How can you call the OC an F and the DC an A when the DC has had 3 bad years out of the last 4 in total defense?

All of this is meaningless anyways as Muschamp proved. He had excellent staff with him every year, the effectiveness of his OC are still always going to be up to debate until we see how they do elsewhere. If the head coach's philosophy is crap however, then he's going to force all the coordinators to put together a game plan that is crap.

Nuss is hot trash and has typically been targeted by coaches who loathe the forward pass. Collins has put out good SEC defenses with 2 and 3* players and I have it from a 'good, reliable source' he is damn good.

Just saying on paper it doesn't look great but as far as the OC I doubt it matters much anyway as McElwain has worked with him before and will be running the show there and he has succeeded at multiple places.

Welcome aboard coach, looking to be a very good staff, excited about our future!
