I don't get people today. Such profound coddling. I stand innocent, yet according to Mr. Cathy, I'm presented as guilty by association of being a racist white person. This concept of shining a black man's shoes referencing Jesus' feet washing is a blow up out of context. It's charity and humility, that you wash another's feet, and in so doing, you represent Christ and lead them in that direction by your actions. It's not an act that suggests "White people should shine blacks’ shoes to show a ‘Sense of Shame,’ ‘Embarrassment’ for racism." That's NOT why you would wash a black person's feet, or any person's feet for that matter. It's meant to show humbleness and servanthood.
Furthermore, when Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, He told them (and us), “I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you” (John 13:15). As His followers, we are to emulate Him, serving one another in lowliness of heart and mind, seeking to build one another up in humility and love. When we seek the preeminence, we displease the Lord who promised that true greatness in His kingdom is attained by those with a servant’s heart (Mark 9:35; 10:44). When we have that servant’s heart, the Lord promised, we will be greatly blessed (John 13:17).
This display of feet-washing by Mr. Cathy represented something else. He may have thought it was a profoundly humbling servanthood process, but it instead represented a display of coddling by proxy, so to speak. It represented an arrogance of one man trying to portray a symbolic act that went sideways. It disgusted me.
