Medical examiner concludes George Floyd died of...

Any cop who confused their gun for their taser has zero business being a cop.

I know you are gone but I agree.

In the heat of the moment, life and death type crap, your brain doesn't work as it normally would. You react and muscle memory is paramount. If you haven't trained properly and if you haven't developed the correct muscle memory, this type of mistake is entirely predictable.

During an adrenaline dump, you will not notice the weight difference or the difference in texture between a gun and a taser.

As an FTO, we run drills based on different threats that address this exact issue. However, that's a starting point and the LEO's themselves must continue to train themselves periodically including pulling your taser, your firearm, dropping your magazine and loading another and clearing a gun jam (tap, tap, rack).

And this is why we wear our taser/erd crossdraw and our sidearm on our dominant hand side.

I am right-handed. I wear my taser on my vest so it's still a RH draw for me but it's a clear distinction from my pistol. They aren't close to one another.

Positives...belt space on the duty belt is at a premium. Also it's easier to get to during a struggle, I'm more accurate RH'd and I have more dexterity RH'd (important given safety features of the holster).

Negatives...you should holster firearm prior to pulling taser (or vice-versa) and since they're both on my RH, that costs time. Switching between the two is more cumbersome.

I was lucky, they didn't have tasers when I was a LEO, and my duty belt was crammed with crap too. Now, when I was a transport officer for FDOC, I had a clean rig, radio, cuffs, holster, Mag pouch, ERD.

Cops who wear Class A's with an inner vest, I don't know how they do it. I don't know how they have the room. On my vest and belt...

Belt
  1. Gun
  2. Triple Mag pouch
  3. Handcuffs x2
  4. Flashlight
  5. Remote/keys for vehicle
  6. Pouch for vinyl globes
  7. #1 tourniquet for you
Vest
  1. Radio x2
  2. Taser
  3. Double AR mags
  4. Pouch for notepad
  5. Asp
  6. Pouch for crap (pens, key cards, small spotting scope and emergency mag for pistol)
  7. Very small first aid kit
  8. #2 tourniquet for me
And on the belt, only the small glove pouch is behind me. If you load up the back of your belt, riding in a patrol vehicle will absolutely cause you back problems.

Ha! We weren't allowed to wear our ballistic on the outside so I had 4 mags and all that crap on my rig.

My ballistic is also a plate carrier. My wife wants me to buy and wear to ceramic plates as well. I mean, it's a good idea...but I'm gonna move like the Staypuff Marshmallow Man.
