McElwain: "Del Rio looks pretty darned good"

If it was only need for a few plays or it was real late in the game I think they would play Del Rio not to burn a redshirt on a QB if Appleby had to come out.

Why worry about burning a Fr redshirt? Does anyone really believe that all 3 will still be here come Sept 2017?

Kyle Trask rsFr - Feleipe' Franks rsFr - Jake Allen Fr --- With rsJr LDR still here??? o_O

Agree with you on that, doesn't make any sense to redshirt both and have no separation. With Appleby leaving after this year it makes sense to get one of the freshmen some PT in mop up duty. One, if you want to open up the competition again next year they have some experience so they can actually challenge LDR. Or two, if they're only serving as the backup they have game action so our season doesn't once again hang on the QB being healthy all year. It's really win-win to do it that way. Redshirting both all but guarantees a transfer.

I'm trying to figure out Del Rio's remaining eligibility. According to Gatorzone:

2013 - ALA, walkon, Freshman year, redshirt
2014 - Oregon St. - RS Fresh year, granted immediate eligibility because he was a "non recruited athlete" at Alabama. He was given 4 years to play 4 seasons.
2015 - sat out due to transfer rules
2016 - rsSO? at Florida.

If he was given 4 years to play 4 seasons in 2014 wouldn't next year be his last? Wouldn't 2015 have been his rsSO year and this his rsJR year?

If redshirting is that important...

You can play one this year and redshirt them in the future. They don't necessarily have to be redshirted their freshman year.

Medical hardship and was granted an extra year of eligibility.

Holy shit...sadgator actually understood and agreed with that...

Have you considered that both Trask and Franks want to redshirt? I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to lose my redshirt over a couple of series of play. Even if one of them decides to transfer its good to have your freshmen year as a redshirt unless your really needed.

I don't agree with burning either one of their redshirts unless they get a good amount of PT or it is an emergency situation.

You guys need to think about the kids as well.

Announced depth chart:

LDR injured out.
Happy-by starting.
Franks the backup.
Trask looks like the 5th wheel at this point.

IF --- If one of the three (Franks-Trask-Allen) is likely to not be here in 2017, then it seems to me that 2 star Trask is the 3rd man out, (the most likely to xfer).

IF --- If that's the case, then why not have him as the backup, burned redshirt, saving Franks redshirt?

Then IF--- if Trask gets in and plays chitty, so be it, and he's gone in 2017.
BUT, IF --- if he gets in and lights it up, then things and options change, and maybe for the better?

This gives everybody a fair shake imo, while it could answer some burning questions at QB.
Just a thought,,,, I have no idea about how the coaches are thinking on this....

I would hope they stick Trask in if an emergency calls for it and not Franks.

Jake Allen looked like a mess everyone said in his game even when he had open receivers. I know a few times he has looked bad against good HS teams. He may be a 3 star in every service after how he has played recently.

Trask -- Emergency or if they get a UK game type lead.

Jake Allen Career: (combined at 3 different schools)
3,243 yds, 242 of 408 (59.3%), 30 TD's, 16 Ints, 141.0 yds/gm

2016
QB-PP - 49 of 83 (59.0%) for 801 yds, 200.3 yds/gm, 6 TD's, 3 Ints.

His career to 2016 numbers look pretty consistent to me.
Currently - #27 nationally, #4 in Florida.
Game Manager numbers that our coaches seem to like...

Naw, Trask is just a 2 star chump that might make a decent tackling dummy. Go ahead and burn 4 star Franks redshirt by putting him in the game, cause heck, he can't be any worse than Claribel 1 or 2, and there's at least a small chance that he might be better....

Oh so you unblocked me so soon?

Naw, I was just bored, so I did a 2 post look see, to see if you were still stalking my posts with your usual moronic crap. So don't be worried, I still have you on full time ignore dunny-goater.
Now you can continue with your usual backstabbing without worry that I'll respond to it.

Yeah I don't think you know what "full-time" means.
