This has been thrown around for several years now...that by year 2 or 3 winning championships is what an Elite Coach does...

But let's take a deep dive into this.

Since 1990...Only 12 Coaches have won a National Championship in their first 3 Years at a School.

Of those 12...
4 of those coaches have left their Schools while the NCAA was hitting them with some of the more severe Probation penalties during that time. (Stallings, Erickson, Tressel, Carroll)
Of the remaining 8 of the coaches...

4 of them were fired (Coker, Chizik, Miles, Orgeron). Miles was the only coach that made it past 6 total Season as a Head Coach

Of the Remaining 4 Head Coaches...
Nick Saban- Not much to be said for him. Although he makes the list as winning in 3rd season at Bama. It took him until his 4th year at LSU to win.
Lloyd Carr- Finished with 1 Title. Many saw him as an underachiever when it was all said and done.
Bob Stoops- Finished with 1 Title. "Big Game Bob" was a national Punchline
Urban Meyer- a lot can be said...but could never sustain being a program for a reasonable mount of time.

Now let's look at the list of Head Coaches that have won titles during this time period that "Weren't Elite" that won Titles after their first 3 years at a school.
Bobby Bowden
Tom Osborne
Steve Spurrier
Phil Fulmer
Mack Brown
Jimbo Fisher
Dabo Swinney
Kirby Smart

Everyone wants this instant gratification and likes to throw out that coaches have won in their 2nd or 3rd year, thus our Head Coach should be doing that. And if he doesn't that we are destined for failure...

There's about a 66% Failure Rate for programs since 1990 that have won a title in year 2 or 3 based on how these 12 performed. Could argue higher than 66% but will be conservative.

There are plenty of things that Billy needs to adjust...But the fact that we aren't playing for a title this year or next does not mean he's destined to fail at Florida. Despite what many people want to say about the first 3 years.
