There are some very good, very intriguing college football games this weekend. Alabama/LSU is the best. Clemson/FSU is interesting.

But our game against Vandy, even though we are a 20 point favorite, means the SEC East title. A title we have not owned since 2009. One that should be #11. Which is more division titles than any other SEC program...ever.

Big game this weekend for UF. It should be a good atmosphere with a chance to win the East on the line.

How many division titles does Bama have all-time? I would have thought they held the record, pretty impressive we have it considering we're 'new money.'

The SEC didn't have divisions until 1992... UF didn't have an SEC title before then, but Bama had several. Bama has 9 west titles, UF has 10 east titles.

Noon games suck. Hope the energy is good. Everybody needs to take care of business and get this thing done.
Yup...hope Mac has the team thinking only about their business Saturday...get in the game, do your job, beat Vandy, go home....no need to watch other games, doesn't matter, just take care of business, everything else will take care of itself. Kinda glad we have a tough loss and some very close wins....hopefully this team knows they cannot take anything for granted.

Nope. Alabama has won the SEC West 9 times. We have 10 SEC East titles.

We own a 4-3 record against Alabama in the SEC Championship games. They are the only team we have lost to in that game. We have also faced Arkansas twice and Auburn once, winning all three contests.

In addition to facing Florida 7 times (and losing 4), Alabama has beat UGA and Missouri in the game.

9399 makes a good point though, I had forgotten that the SEC didn't go to divisions until 92'. It's kinda why I figured Bama was the all-time leader in division titles since they had pretty much owned the conference for decades.

Florida, for all its ineptness for the last five years, has pretty much dominated the SEC since we went to divisions. It is time to reestablish that tradition. At one time, Florida had more SEC East titles than the rest of the SEC East teams...combined. Now UT has five, UGA has five, Mizzou has two and USCe has one. Florida will have eleven. Need to get three more.

Also finished first in the SEC in 84,85, and 90.

I don't think I'm mistaken, but '84 was vacated resulting from NCAA violations. Tennessee won the SEC in '85 and '90. You are counting probation years when you were ineligible?

Can we please have a discussion about Florida without FSU fans coming in with thinly veiled criticism and passive aggressive hijacks?

Read my post again, didn't say we were SEC champs, just that we finished first.

We are the 1984 SEC Champions.

Coca Cola says so.

I have a bottle to prove it!

Awesome! I've seen those around. I was a UF student when the title was stripped. Lots of gear was out then in Gainesville and had been gobbled up before the title was vacated...you could still buy stuff after too.

I have two of them somewhere. Can't imagine what the Coke inside would taste like now.

I actually have around 5 now. I had 6. In 2006 someone dared me to down it if we pulled off the win against Ohio State. Needless to say by mid 4th quarter I downed it and chased it with a fresh Coca Cola. It tasted like molasses but was well worth it considering the circumstances.

I'll drink another next Natty we win.
I moved in 07 so they were in storage in 08 so I missed out that year.

We all seem to have those bottles. It is like a battle scar we all carry. sadgator's is on his bookshelf in his office. Wouldn't dream of drinking it. sadgator also has a 6 pack of Coca Cola micro-bottles celebrating the '96 titles. Those are cool too.

From a fan expectation perspective, Florida is playing with house money from here on out. Nobody, but nobody expected Florida to be able to make it to Atlanta. And now we are on the brink of doing just that. The team just needs to close it out.

Assuming we get by Vandy, even with all the injuries, then do we reset our expectations? Can we realistically reset them?

And by that, I mean do we expect to win out to the SECCG, win the SECCG and then get invited to the playoffs.? Or are we satisfied with what we have got? A trip to the SECCG and maybe an expected loss?

The ones that suck are the Coke cans...have one from the '91 SEC Championship....only a matter of time before the coke leaks out....

Step by step.

Winning out to the SECCG. Basically means beating FSU at your place. I think most of your fan base is amped for that right now and expects to win.

Win the SECCG. That means beating 'Bama, LSU, or Ole Miss. I don't think you can "expect" a win...nor should you "expect" a loss if you go in with a win over FSU.

Invited to the playoffs? Without seeing how everyone else finishes, yeah...I'd think UF is in if they run the table. Because beating FSU and the SECCG are possible, hey...why not hope for it as a fan!

All that said, My Gator friends are happy this fall for a change. Pretty sure they'd be disappointed in the moment with any loss...but over-all this has been a great and unexpected first season for Mac. Consider all the pre-season commentary where "being competetive" was a common hope. UF is more than that now.
